VII. Solve the following problems.

1. If one-half of the contents of a water tank disappear after 21 hours, how much water in a full tank
will remain after 7 days, given the tank initially had 800 gallons of water? (4 pts)
2. Given a product with R0 (x) = 4x3 − 2x + 3 and C 0 (x) = 6x2 + 4x + 1. If the profit for selling 3
units of the product is 14 pesos, find the profit function P (x). (4 pts)
3. If f (x) = x3 + 3x2 − 72x, for which negative value of x does f attain its greatest value? (4 pts)
4. The acceleration of a car is given by a(t) = 24t − 14. If the car is at rest at the origin at t = 0,
give the position function s(t) of the car. (4 pts)
5. Joy is chasing Wendy around a square block. Joy is running at a rate of 3 ft/s away from the
northwest corner, and Wendy is running at 4 ft/s toward the corner. At the moment when Joy is
8 ft away from the corner, and Wendy is 15 ft away from the corner, at what rate is their distance
changing? (5 pts)
