Address (SONA) that lasted for an hour and 33 minutes. He is now halfway through his

six-year term, He laid out the policies he would want to adopt for the remaining three

years in office. On the lighter note, the president didn’t criticize his critics, like what he

always did in his past state of the nation address.

President Duterte reports the decrease in the poverty incidence rate from 27.6%

during the 1st half of 2015 to 21% in the 1st half of 2018. He also begs that citizens join

him in reducing poverty. The President calls for the passage of Package 2 of the

Comprehensive Tax Reform Program, otherwise known as the Trabaho bill. The said bill

which seeks to bring down the corporate income tax to the current 30 percent to 20

percent. The said bill also seeks to update the incentives given to big businesses, such

as tax holidays, to attract more foreign investors.

As for the salary increase for the public school teachers, it is a must. Since

teachers are the person behind the success of every people in the country. It is just right

to give them a just compensation that they deserve. With regards to the economic

status of the country, for me, the country needs to deepen the economic reforms that

have been slowly moving forward. This is the time to consolidate the reforms that

gives the country an even chance to catch up with our high-economic-achieving

neighbors.
