Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing

Opportunity in your classroom:

In this activity, the students will be assigned KidPub to create their own personal narrative story they
have made. There they will be able to publish their writing and are able to review their classmates
writing. The students will be able to review work and make critiques to their peers work, allowing
them to work on their writing and editing skills.

What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a

classroom?

Computers and Internet

Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them
may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond
their school: Students will be able to publish their original work as well as reading and
critiquing other students’ writings.

b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or

producing original products as a result of engaging in a project): The students will have an
opportunity to create an original writing on KidPub.

c. Higher-order thinking: The students will use higher-order thinking by creating their own
narrative with elaborated events using structure to include exposition, rising action, climax,
falling action, and resolution.

d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product:

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

The teacher will assist the students when needed while using the website to publish their writings. The
teacher can pair students up in groups to make it a more collaborative lesson.

Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies:

Regarding the internet safety policies, I will first summit a request of approval to the administration
and parents before assignment the online site to the students’ project. Once approved, I will have the
students create their own narrative in elaborated events using the structure to implement exposition,
rising action, climax, falling action, and introduce safety and privacy strategies with the students and
parents. I will also watch the students ad they use this technology with the writing project.

Reflective Practice:

I feel the activity I created will impact students’ writing skills for the better because, they will have
practice with writing a dramatic structure that implements the 4 levels of writing a narrative correctly.
They will have practice with editing their and other students’ writing, as well as taking critiques into
account to make their writing even better. In order to extend the lesson, I could have the students
create a fictional writing to also publish, making them think more out of the box regarding he topic
they write about. In return this will foster another educational experience to benefit their writing
skills.
