NOMINAL DURATION : 248 hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION :

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, positive attitude and work
values in accordance with the prevailing standards in the Technical-Vocational Education
and Training (TVET) sector. This encompasses competencies required of a level II
Technical-Vocational Trainer to develop training curriculum.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS :

Candidate/trainee must reach/poses any of the following qualification:

 BS Graduate or equivalent
 National Certificate (NC) holder (for technical trainers)

MODULE TITLE : DEVELOPING LEARNING MATERIALS

MODULE DESCRIPTOR : The module covers the knowledge, skills and attitude
required to develop training materials including print, mock-
up/simulator and models. It also covers analyzing of the
learning materials requirements, the planning, designing and
developing the contents, reviewing, validating and evaluating
the design and the development processed used.

NOMINAL DURATION : 120 hours

SUMMARY OF LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of this module, the trainee/student must be able to:

LO1. ANALYZE THE LEARNING MATERIALS REQUIREMENTS

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

1. Focus and type of learning materials is clarified with client/organization based on


their needs.
2. Intended target audience/s are researched according to their learning needs and
learning environment.
3. Learners/end users of the learning materials are identified according to their
characteristics/profiles.
4. Existing information such as occupation/competency standards,
syllabus/curriculum, instructional blueprint and learning engagement plan,
TNA/job/task analysis, procedures, processes are gathered, collated and
analyzed based on their relevancy and appropriateness.
5. Ethical and legal considerations are identified and looked into based on their
relevancy and appropriateness.
6. A development work plan reflecting timelines, resources and logistics needed is
written and documented according to agreed timeframe and allocated budget.

LO2. DESIGN THE LEARNING MATERIALS

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

1. Design options incorporating various principles, concepts and techniques is


generated and studied based on the analyzed learning requirements.
2. The concept and specifications of the design/instructional blueprint and learning
engagement plan is developed in accordance with the basic principles of
competency-based TVET, design options, elements and procedure and its
appropriateness with the learners/end users’ learning styles and the development
work plan.
3. An outline or prototype is developed and confirmed with the client based on the
design specifications/instructional plan/learning engagement plan.
4. Relevant personnel needed are identified to support the development phase
based on the design specifications and development work plan..

 Design options: use and extent of practical activity-based content and passive
content (reading, interpreting and absorbing information); use and extent of text-
based information and graphical information; level of depth of text-based
information and sophistication of language; options for presenting text-based
information e.g., straight text, question and answer, case studies

LO3. DEVELOP THE CONTENT OF THE PRINT-BASED LEARNING MATERIALS

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

1. Content and content specification is developed in accordance with the


instructional design, guidelines for print-based learning materials and document
design principles
2. Content is broken into manageable chunks/segments of learning and sequenced
according to learning principles.
3. Learning activities are developed for each learning chunk in accordance with the
mode of delivery, instructional methods/strategies, resources and assessment
formats
4. Existing learning materials are accessed and modified/customized in accordance
with the learning outcomes and target audience.
5. All text used are clear, concise, grammatically correct and appropriate for the
intended audience
6. Visuals used are relevant, instructive and appropriate for the intended audience
7. The content of the learning materials is formatted in accordance with style guide
8. Mechanism for reviewing work in progress are established
9. Modifications are made to the design and/or content to address changes in
project parameters
10. Users guide for the print-based learning materials is developed

LO4. DEVELOP THE PROTOTYPE OF MOCKUP/SIMULATOR

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Mock-up/simulator’s plan and specifications is developed in accordance with
instructional blueprint and learning engagement plan or confirmed with the
client/supervisor
2. Prototype of mockup/simulator systems and components are prepared in
accordance with the final design
3. Mechanism for reviewing work in progress are established
4. Modifications are made to the design and/or features of mockup/simulator to
address changes in project parameters
5. Relevant personnel needed are identified to support the development phase
based on design specifications, systems and components
6. Users guide/procedures manual for the prototype of mock-up/simulator is
developed

LO5. REVIEW/TEST LEARNING MATERIALS

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Content of developed materials are checked in accordance with content
specifications and instructional design/plan
2. Text, format , visual design and document design are checked in accordance in
accordance with appropriate principles and guidelines
3. Relevant personnel are identified and assistance is sought for the review and
validation in accordance with the formulated criteria
4. External review by practitioners in field is conducted in accordance with the
appropriate methods and feedback.
5. Final draft is reviewed in accordance with validation results,
modifications/corrections made and other relevant criteria prior delivery to the
client

1. The design and development process is reviewed in accordance with the


appropriate evaluation procedure and criteria
2. Evaluation results are analyzed and prioritized
3. Areas for improvement in the design are incorporated in accordance with the
analyzed and prioritized evaluation results
4. Areas for improvement are identified and documented in accordance with the
evaluation results
