AngloGold Ashanti (Sabará, Minas Gerais - Brazil) – Mine Planning Intern [Nov. 2016 – Dec. 2017]
It was my first experience at a big company and I could not ask for a better team to work and learn with. Since day one
I was put in situations I had to work my way through but I always had support. I worked at the site Cuiabá (the deepest
underground mine in Brazil), following the work routine and assisting in the execution of activities pertinent to
departments of mine planning, production and haulage management, reporting directly to the head of planning.
Followed mining operations in the field (drilling, blasting, loading, haulage, and backfill);
Collaborated on short and medium-term mine design, planning and scheduling;
Assisted the team in drilling and blasting CAD projects;
Performed stope design, reconciliation and evaluate grade control, ore loss, and dilution;
Prepared maps to effectively communicate mine plans and schedules for comprehension and implementation;
Dimensioned heavy mining equipment (truck, fandrill, jumbo, LHD), considering the production plan,
productivity, cost, and mining method;
Followed daily production of the mine's main KPI's;
Evaluated adherence and compliance;
Provided assistance in the performance and logistic controls of heavy mining equipment.
Here it was possible to learn and contribute to a continuous improvement project increasing 12% the utilization of the
haulage fleet, reducing operational delays at the site Lamego. In addition, at the end of the internship, I performed a
costing study in the Cuiabá-Lamego complex to verify the feasibility of outsourcing the development operation.
