N.B. :— (1) Solve any SIX questions.
(2) Use of non-programmable scientific calculator and drawing instruments is permitted.
(3) Use of steel tables giving properties of steel sections is allowed.
(4) Assume suitable data wherever necessary.
(5) Use of I.S. 800, I.S. 456 is allowed.

6. Calculate the strength of ISA 90 mm × 60 mm × 6 mm when used as a tension member with
its longer leg connected using 14 mm φ rivets. 12
7. Design a column section to carry an axial compressive load of 175 kN. The column is 4.2 m
long and effectively held in position at both ends and restrained against rotation at one end.
