There are two options for adding instruments to the CADWorx model to export to Isogen. Basic instrument bubbles, and single point components,
may be added through the Isogen Supplemental menu; however, these components will not appear on the isometric Bill of Materials. For more
complex shapes, and greater control over the appearance on the isometric including the Bill of Materials, components may be added to the
specification file. The following tutorials will show how to create instruments using both tools for export to Isogen, and provide some helpful hints
on how to find the instruments in the model using Navisworks.
Creating custom components for use under the Isogen Supplemental Menu:
The CADWorx piping package is provided with basic 2D symbols for instrument bubbles under the Isogen Supplemental pulldown (ISOGENSUPL
from the command line) that will export to Isogen. The symbols graphics may be customized, and additional graphics including 3D shapes, may
be added to the menu. To add additional graphics to the menu to export as instrument bubbles:
1. In plain AutoCAD (not CADWorx, AutoCAD Architecture, MEP, etc) open the 3D drawing of the instrument
and WBLOCK it to a new file, using the point where the instrument connects to the pipe as the insert point.
2. Add Attributes for each tag line (2 lines or 3 lines) inside the block. The attributes may be named anything,
but the name should be logical.
3. Save the drawing under <INSTALL DIRECTORY>\Support\ as ISOGEN_Instrument_# (Where # equals
the next sequential number).
4. Open the file “Pipe_alt.dat” under <INSTALL DIRECTORY>\Support, and under the [ISOGEN
Supplemental] heading add the following line:
A B C
Where: A = CAD Block name.dwg (or slide to be displayed on the pulldown menu)
B = Menu Description
C = graph2 (CADWorx prompt string) + “CAD block name” (block to insert) +
CADWorx prompt string (number of lines, 2 or 3)
Notes: 1. Instruments added using the Isogen Supplemental pulldown will appear inside the isometric drawing frame but will not appear on the
isometric bill of materials.
2. Instruments in the model added using the Isogen Supplemental menu may be easily found in Navisworks by searching for attributes with
the appropriate values. If the block above was used to represent a pressure gauge and the tag was PI-123456, then the following search
criteria could be used to find it:
Category = “Attribute”, Property = “PI1”, Condition = “=”, Value = “PI”
and
Category = “Attribute”, Property = “PI2”, Condition = “=”, Value = “123456”
