In the Name of ALLAH, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

BIS-MIL-LAAHIR-RAH'-MAANIR-RAH'EEM

My God, offenses have clothed me in the garment of my lowliness,

ILAAHEEE AL-BASAT-NEEL-KHAT'AAYAA THAW-BA MAD'AL-LATEE

separation from Thee has wrapped me in the clothing of my misery!

WA JAL-LALANEET-TABAAU'DU MINKA LIBAASA MAS-KANATEE

My dreadful crimes have deadened my heart, so bring it to life by a repentance from

Thee!
WA AMAATA QAL-BEE A'Z'EEMU JINAAYATEE FAAH'-YIHEE BITAW-
BATIM-MINK

O my hope and my aim!

YAAA AMALEE WA BUGH-YATEE

O my wish and my want!

WA YAA SOO-LEE WA MUNYATEE

By Thy might,
FAWAI'Z-ZATIK

I find no one but Thee to forgive my sins and

MAAA AJIDU LID'UNOOBEE SIWAAKA GHAFIRAA

I see none but Thee to mend my brokenness!

WA LAAA ARAA LIKAS-REE GHAY-RAKA JAABIRAA

I have subjected myself to Thee in repeated turning,

WA QAD KHAZ''AA'-TU BIL-INAABATI ILAY-K

I have humbled myself to Thee in abasement.

WA A'NAW-TU BIIAS-TIKAANATI LADAY-K

If Thou castest me out from Thy door, in whom shall I take shelter?
FAAN T'ARAT-TANEE MIM-BAABIKA FABIMAN ALOOD'

If Thou repellest me from Thy side, in whom shall I seek refuge?

WA IR-RADAT-TANEE A'N JANAABIKA FABIMAN AU'WD'

O my grief at my ignominy and disgrace!

FAWAAA ASAFAAHOO MIN KHAJ-LATEE WA AF-TIZ''AAH'EE

O my sorrow at my evil works and what I have committed!

WA WAA LAH-FAHOO MIN SOOO-I A'MALEE WA AJ-TIRAAH'EE

I ask Thee,
AS-ALUK

O Forgiver of great sins,

YAA GHAAFIRAD'-D'AMBIL-KABEER

O Mender of broken bones,

WA YAA JAABIRAL-A'Z'-MIL-KASEER

to overlook my ruinous misdeeds and

AN TAHABA LEE MOOBIQAATIL-JARAAA-IR

cover my disgraceful secret thoughts!

WA TAS-TURA A'LAY-YA FAAZ''IH'AATIS-SARAAA-IR

At the witnessing place of the Resurrection, empty me not of the coolness of Thy
pardon and forgiveness, and
WA LAA TUKH-LINEE FEE MASH-HADIL-QEEAAMATI MIM-BAR-DI A'F-
WIKA WA GHAF-RIK

strip me not of Thy beautiful forbearance and covering!

WA LAA TUA'-RINEE MIN JAMEELI S'AF-H'IKA WA SAT-RIK

My God,
ILAAHEE

let the cloud of Thy mercy cast its shadow upon my sins and
Z'AL-LIL A'LAA D'UNOOBEE GHAMAAMA RAH'-MATIKA

send the billow of Thy clemency flowing over my faults!

WA AR-SIL A'LAA U'YOOBEE SAH'AABA RAA-FATIK

My God,
ILAAHEE

Does the runaway servant go back but to His master? Or

HAL YAR-JIU'L-A'B-DUL-AAABIQU IL-LAAA ILAA MAW-LAAHOO

does any anyone grant sanctuary to him form His angert but He?
AM HAL YUJEERUHOO MIN SAKHAT'IHEEE AH'DUN SIWAAH
My God,
ILAAHEE

if remorse for sins is a repentance, 33 I—by Thy might—am one of the remorseful!
IN KANAN-NADAMU A'LAAD'-D'AMBI TAW-BATAN FA IN-NEE WA I'Z-
ZATIKA MINAN-NAADIMEEN

If praying forgiveness for offenses is an alleviation, I am one of those who pray

forgiveness!
WA IN KAANALIS-TIGH-FAARU MINAL-KHAT'EE-ATI H'IT'-T'ATAN FA IN-
NEE LAKA MINAL-MUS-TAGH-FIREENA

To Thee I return that Thou may be well pleased!

LAKAL-U'T-BAA H'AT-TAA TAR-Z''AA

My God, through Thy power over me, turn toward me,

ILAAHEE BIQUD-RATIKA A'LAY-YA TUB A'LAY

through Thy clemency toward me, pardon me,

WA BIH'IL-MIKA A'N-NEE AA'-FU A'N-NEE

and through Thy knowledge of me, be gentle toward me!

WA BII'L-MIKA BEE AR-FUQ BEE

My God, Thou art He who hast opened a door to Thy pardon and named it
'repentance', for Thou said,
ILAAHEEE ANTAL-LAD'EE FATAH'-TA LII'BAADIKA BAABAN ILAA A'F-
WIKA SAM-MAY-TAHUT-TAW-BATA FAQUL-TA :

(Repent to ALLAH with unswerving repentance).34

( TOOBOO ILAAL-LAAHEE TAW-BATAN-NAS'OOH'A)

What is the excuse of him who remains heedless of entering the door after its
opening?
FAMAA U'D'-RU MAN AGH-FALA DUKHOOLAL-BAABI BAA'-DA FAT-H'IH

My God,
ILAAHEEE

though the sins of Thy servant are ugly, Thy pardon is beautiful.
IN KAANA QABUH'AD'-D'AMBU MIN A'B-DIKA FAL-YAH'-SUNIL-A'F-WU
MIN I'NDIK

My God I am not the first

ILAAHEE MAAA ANA BIW-WALI MAN-

to have disobeyed Thee, and Thou turned toward him,

A'S'AAKA FATUB-TA A'LAY-H
or to have sought to attain Thy favour, and Thou wert munificent toward him.
WA TAA'R-RAZ''A LIMAA'-ROOFIKA FAJUT-TA A'LAY-H

O Responder to the distressed!

YAA MUJEEBAL-MUZ''-T'AR

O Remover of injury!
YAA KAASHIFAZ''-Z''UR

O Great in goodness!
YAA A'Z'EEMAL-BIR

O Knower of everything secret!

YAA A'LEEMAM-BIMAA FIS-SIR

O Beautiful through covering over!

YAA JAMEELAS-SIT-R

I seek Thy munificence and Thy generosity to intercede with Thee,

IS-TASH-FAA'-TU BIJOODIKA WA KARAMIKA ILAY-K

I seek Thy side and Thy showing mercy to mediate with Thee,
WA TAWAS-SAL-TU BIJANABIKA WA TARAH'-H'UMIKA LADAY-KA

so grant my supplication,
FAS-TAJIB DUA'AA-EE

disappoint not my hope in Thee,

WA LAA TUKHAY-YIB FEEKA RAJAAA-EE

accept my repentance,
WA TAQAB-BAL TAW-BATEE

and hide my offense, through Thy kindness and mercy, O Most Merciful of the
merciful!
WA KAF-FIR KHAT'EE-ATEE BIMAN-NIKA WA RAH'-MATIKA YAAA AR-
H'AMAR-RAAH'IMEEN

In the Name of ALLAH, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

BIS-MIL-LAAHIR-RAH'-MAANIR-RAH'EEM

My God, to Thee I complain of a soul

ILAAHEEE ILAY-KA ASH-KOO NAF-SANA
commanding to evil, 35
BIS-SOOO-I AM-MAARAH

rushing to offenses,
WA ILAAL-KHAT'EE-ATI MUBAADIRAH

eager to disobey Thee,

WA BIMAA'AS'EEKA MOOLAA'H

and exposing itself to Thy anger.

WA LISAKHAT'IKA MUTAA'R-RIZ''ATAN

It takes me on the roads of disasters,

TAS-LUKA BEE MASAALIKAL-MAHAALIK

it makes me the easiest of perishers before Thee;

WA TAJ-A'LUNEE I'NDAKA AH-WANA HAALIK

many its pretexts,

KATHYRATAL-I'LAL

drawn out its expectations;

T'AWYLATAL-AMAL

when evil touches it, it is anxious,

IM-MAS-SAHAASH-SHAR-RU TAJ-ZAU'

when good touches it, grudging; 36

WA IM-MAS-SAHAAL-KHAY-RU TAM-NAU'

inclining to sport and diversion,

MAY-YAALATAN ILAAL-LAI'BI WAL-LAAH-WI

full of heedlessness and inattention,

MAM-LOOO-ATAM-BIL-GHAF-LATI WAS-SAH-WI

it hurries me to misdeeds
TUS-RIU' BEEE ILAAL-H'AW-BAH

and makes me delay repentance.

WA TUSAW-WIFUNEE BIT-TAW-BAH

My God, I complain to Thee

ILAAHEEE ASH-KOOO ILAY-K

of an enemy who misguides me and

A'DOO-WAY-YUZ''IL-LUNEE
a satan who leads me astray.
WA SHAY-T'AANAY-YUGH-WEENEE

He has filled my breast with tempting thoughts, and

QAD MALAA BIL-WAS-WAASI S'AD-REE

his suggestions have encompassed my heart.

WA AH'AAT'AT HAWAAJISUHOO BIQAL-BEE

He supports caprice against me,

YUA'AZ''IDU LEEAL-HAWAA

embellishes for me the love of this world, and

WA YUZAY-YINU LEE H'UB-BAD-DUNYAA

separates me from obedience and proximity!

WA YAH'OOLU BAY-NEE WA BAY-NAT'-T'AAA'TI WAZ-ZUL-FAA

My God, to Thee I complain

ILAAHEEE ILAY-KA ASH-KOO

of a heart that is hard, turned this way and that by tempting thoughts, clothed in rust
and the seal, 37
QAL-BANA QAASEEAM-MAA'L-WAS-WAASI MUTAQAL-LIBAW-WA BIR-
RAY-NI WAT'-T'AB-I' MUTALAB-BISAA

and of an eye too indifferent to weep in fear of Thee and eagerly seeking that which
gladdens it!
WA A'Y-NANA A'NIL-BUKAAA-I MIN KHAW-FIKA JAAMIDATAW-WA
ILAA MAA TASUR-RUHAA T'AAMIH'AH

My God,
ILAAHEE

there is no force and no strength except in Thy power, and

LAA H'AW-LA WA LAA QOO-WATA IL-LAA BIQUD-RATIK

no deliverance for me from the detested things of this world save through Thy
preservation.
WA LAA NAJAATA LEE MIM-MAKAARIHID-DUNYAAA IL-LAA BII'S'-
MATIK

So I ask Thee by Thy far-reaching wisdom and Thy penetrating will

FAAS-ALUKA BIBALAAGHATI H'IK-MATIKA WA NAFAAD'I MASHEE-
YATIKA AN-

not to let me expose myself to other than Thy munificence and

LAA TAJ-A'L-NEE LIGHAY-RI JOODIKA MUTAA'R-RIZ''AA
not to turn me into a target for trials!
WA LAA TUS'AY-YIR-NEE LIL-FITANI GHARAZ''AA

Be for me
WA KUL-LEE

a helper against enemies,

A'LAAL-AA'-DAAA-I NAAS'IRAA

a coverer of shameful things and faults,

WA A'LAAL-MAKHAAZEE WAL-U'YOOBI SAATIRAA

a protector against afflictions,

WA MINAL-BALAAYAA WAAQEEANA

a preserver against acts of disobedience!

WAA'NIL-MAA'AS'EE A'AS'IMANA

By Thy clemency and mercy,

BIRAA-FATIKA WA RAH'-MATIKA

O Most Merciful of the merciful!

YAAA AR-H'AMAR-RAAH'IMEEN

In the Name of ALLAH, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

BIS-MIL-LAAHIR-RAH'-MAANIR-RAH'EEM

My God, what thinkest Thou?

ILAAHEEE ATURAAK

Wilt Thou chastise me after my faith in Thee,

BAA'-DAL-EEMAANI BIKA TUA'D'-D'IBUNEE

drive me far away after my love for Thee,

AM BAA'-DA H'UB-BEEE EE-YAAKA TUBAA'-I'DUNEE

deprive me while I hope for Thy mercy and forgiveness,

AM MAA' RAJAAA-EE LIRAH'-MATIKA WA S'AF-H'IKA TAH'-RIMUNEE

forsake me while I seek sanctuary in Thy pardon?

AM MAA' AS-TIJAARATEE BIA'F-WIKA TUS-LIMUNEE

How could Thy generous face disappoint me?!

H'AASHAA LIWAJ-HIKAL-KAREEMI AN TUKHAY-YIBANEE

Would that I knew—

LAY-TA SHIA'-REE

Did my mother bear me for wretchedness?

ALILSH-SHAQAAA-I WALADAT-NEEE UM-MEE

Did she nurture me for suffering?

AM LIL-A'NAAA-I RAB-BAT-NEE

Would then that she had not borne me and had not nurtured me!
FALAY-TAHAA LAM TALID-NEE WA LAM TURAB-BINEE

Would that I had knowledge—

WA LAY-TANEE A'LIM-TU

Hast Thou appointed me one of the people of felicity?

AMIN AH-LIS-SAA'DATI JAA'L-TANEE

Hast Thou singled me out for Thy nearness and neighborhood?

WA BIQUR-BIKA WA JIWAARIKA KHAS'AS'-TANEE

Then would my eyes be gladdened, and in that my soul reach serenity.

FATAQAR-RA BID'ALIKA A'Y-NEE WA TAT'-MA-IN-NA LAHOO NAF-SEE

My God,
ILAAHEE

dost Thou blacken faces which fall down in prostration before Thy mightiness?
HAL TUSAW-WIDU WUJOOHANA KHAR-RAT SAAJIDATAL-LIA'Z'AMATIK

Dost Thou strike dumb tongues which speak in laudation of Thy glory and majesty?
AW TUKH-RISU AL-SINATAN-NAT'AQAT BITH-THANAAA-I A'LAA MAJ-
DIKA WA JALAALATIK

Dost Thou seal hearts which harbor Thy love?

AW TAT'-BAU' A'LAA QULOOBIN ANT'AWAT A'LAA MAH'AB-BATIKA

Dost Thou deafen ears which take pleasure in hearing Thy remembrance according to
Thy will?
AW TUS'IM-MU AS-MAAA'NA TALAD'-D'AD'AT BISAMAAI' D'IK-RIKA
FEEE IRAADATIK

Dost Thou manacle hands which expectations have raised to Thee in hope of Thy
clemency?
AW TAGHUL-LU AKUF-FAR-RAFAA'T-HAAL-AAAMAALU ILAY-KA
RAJAAA-A RAA-FATIK
Dost Thou punish bodies which worked to obey Thee until they grew thin in
struggling for Thee?
AW TUA'AQIBU AB-DAANANA A'MILAT BIT'AAA'TIKA H'AT-TAA
NAH'ILAT FEE MUJAAHADATIK

Dost Thou chastise legs which ran to worship Thee?

AW TUA'D'-D'IBU AR-JULANA SAA'T FEE I'BAADATIK

My God, lock not toward those who profess Thy Unity the doors of Thy mercy,
ILAAHEE LAA TUGH-LIQ A'LAA MUWAH'-H'IDEEKA AB-WAABA RAH'-
MATIK

and veil not those who yearn for Thee from looking upon the vision of Thy beauty!
WA LAA TH'-JUB MUSH-TAAQEEKA A'NIN-NAZ'ARI ILAA JAMEELI ROO-
YATIK

My God, a soul which Thou hast exalted by its professing Thy Unity—how wilt Thou
humiliate him by leaving him?
ILAAHEE NAF-SUN AA'-ZAZ-TAHAA BITAWH'EEDIKA KAY-FA TUD'IL-
LUHAA BIMAHAANATI HIJ-RAANIK

My God, a heart which has been knotted by its love for Thy—how wilt Thou burn it
in the heat of Thy fires?
WA Z''AMEERUN-IN-A'QADA A'LAA MAWAD-DATIKA KAY-FA TUH'-
RIQUHOO BIH'ARAARATI NEERAANIK

My God,
ILAAHEE

give me sanctuary from Thy painful wrath and Thy mighty anger!
AJIR-NEE MIN ALEEMI GHAZ''ABIKA WA A'Z'EEMI SAKHAT'IKA

O All-loving, O All-kind!
YAA H'AN-NAANU YAA MAN-NAANU

O Compassionate, O Merciful!
YAA RAH'EEMU YAA RAH'-MAAN

O Compeller, O Subduer!
YAA JAB-BAARU YAA QAH-HAARU

O All-forgiver, O All-covering!
YAA GHAF-FAARU YAA SAT-TAARU

Deliver me through Thy mercy from the chastisement of the Fire and the disgrace of
shame when
NAJ-JINEE BIRAH'-MATIKA MIN A'D'AABIN-NAARI WA FAZ''EEH'ATIL-
A'ARI ID'AA
the good are set apart from the evil,
AM-TAAZAL-AKH-YAARU MINAL-ASH-RAAR

forms are transformed,

WA H'AALATIL-AH'-WAAL

terrors terrify,
WA HAALATIL-AH-WAAL

the good-doers are brought near,

WA QARUBAL-MUH'-SINOON

the evildoers taken far,

WA BAU'DAL-MUSEE-OON

(and every soul paid what it has earned, and they shall not be wronged!)38

In the Name of ALLAH, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

BIS-MIL-LAAHIR-RAH'-MAANIR-RAH'EEM

O He who
YAA MAN

gives to a servant who asks from Him,

ID'A SAALAHOO A'B-DUN AA'-T'AAHOO

takes him to his wish when he expectantly hopes for what is with Him,
WA ID'AAA AM-MALA MAA I'NDAHOO BAL-LAGHAHOO MUNAAHOO

brings him near and close when he approaches Him,

WA ID'AAA AQ-BALA A'LAY-HEE QAR-RABAHOO WA AD-NAAH

covers over his sin and cloaks it when he shows it openly, and
WA ID'A JAAHARAHOO BIL-I'S'-YAANI SATARA A'LAA D'AMBIHEE WA
GHAT'-T'AAHOO

satisfies and suffices him when he has confidence in Him!

WA ID'A TAWAK-KALA A'LAY-HEEE AH'-SABAHOO WA KAFAAH

My God, who is the one who has come before Thee seeking hospitality, and whom
Thou hast not received hospitably?
ILAAHEE MANIL-LAD'EE NAZALA BIKA MUL-TAMISAN QIRAAKA
FAMAA QARAY-TAH

Who is the one who has dismounted at Thy door hoping for magnanimity, and to
whom Thou hast not shown it?
WA MANIL-LAD'EEE ANAKHA BIBAABIKA MUR-TAJEEAN-NADAAKA
FAMAAA AW-LAY-TAH

Is it good that I come back from Thy door, turned away in disappointment, while I
know of no patron qualified by beneficence but Thee?
AYAH'-SUNU AN AR-JIA' A'M-BAABIKA BIL-KHAY-BATI MAS'-ROOFAW-
WA LAS-TU AA'-RIFU SIWAAKA MAW-LAN BIL-IH'-SAANI MAW-S'OOFAN

How should I have hope in other than Thee, when the good—all of it—is in Thy
hand?39
KAYFA AR-JOO GHAY-RAKA WAL-KHAY-RU KUL-LUHOO BEEADIK

How should I expect from others, when Thine are the creation and the command?40
WA KAY-FA OO-AM-MILU SIWAAKA WAL-KHAL-QU WAL-AM-RU LAK

Should I cut off my hope for Thee, when Thou hast shown me of Thy bounty that for
which I have not asked?
AAQ-T'AU' RAJAAA-EE MINKA WA QAD AW-LAY-TANEE MAA LAM AS-
AL-HOO MIN FAZ''-LIKA

Wouldst Thou make me have need for my like? But I hold fast to Thy cord!
AM TUF-QIRUNY ILAA MITH-LEE WA ANA AA'-TAS'IMU BIH'AB-LIKA

O He through whose mercy the strivers reach felicity

YAA MAN SAI'DA BIRAH'-MATIHIL-QAAS'IDOONA

and through whose vengeance the seekers of forgiveness are not made wretched!
WA LAM YASH-QA BINAQIMATIHIL-MUS-TAGH-FIROON

How should I forget Thee, while Thou never ceasest remembering me?
KAY-FA ANSAAKA WALAM TAZAL D'AAKIREE

How should I be diverted from Thee while Thou art my constant watcher?
WA KAY-FA AL-HOO A'NKA WA ANTA MURAAQIBEE

My God, I have fastened my hand to the skirt of Thy generosity,

ILAAHEE BID'AY-LI KARAMIKA AA'-LAQ-TU YADEE

I have stretched forth my expectation toward reaching Thy gifts,

WA LINAY-LI A'T'AAYAAKA BASAT'-TU AMALEE

so render me pure through the purest profession of Thy Unity, and

FAAKH-LIS'-NEE BIKHAALIS'ATI TAW-H'EEDIKA
appoint me one of Thy choice servants!
WAJ-A'L-NEE MIN S'AF-WATI A'BEEDIK

O He who
YAA MAN-

is the asylum of every fleer,

KUL-LU HAARIBIN ILAY-HEE YAL-TAJI-U

the hope of every seeker!

WA KUL-LU T'AALIBIN EE-YAAHOO YAR-TJEE

O Best Object of hope!

YAA KHAY-RA MAR-JOO

O Most Generous Object of supplication!

WA YAAA AK-RAMA MAD-U'W

O He who does not reject His asker

WA YAA MAL-LAA YURAD-DU SAAA-ILUH

or disappoint the expectant!

WA LAA YUKHAY-YABU AAAMILUH

O He whose door is open to His supplicators and

YAA MAM-BAABUHOO MAF-TOOH'UL-LIDAAE'EH

whose veil is lifted for those who hope in Him!

WA H'IJAABUHOO MAR-FOOU'L-LIRAAJEEHEE

I ask Thee by Thy generosity to show kindness toward me

AS-ALUKA BIKARAMIKA AN TAMUN-NA A'LAY-YA

through Thy gifts, with that which will gladden my eye,

MIN A'T'AAA-IKA BIMA TAQAR-RU BIHEE A'Y-NEE

through hope in Thee, with that which will give serenity to my soul, and
WA MIR-RAJAAA-IKA BIMA TAT'-MA-IN-NU BIHEE NAF-SEE

through certainty with that which will make easy for me the afflictions of this world
and lift from my insight the veils of blindness!
WA MINAL-YAQEENI BIMA TUHAW-WINU BIHEE A'LAY-YA
MUS'EEBAATID-DUNYAA WA TAJ-LOO BIHEE A'N BAS'EERATEE
GHASHAWAATIL-A'MAA

By Thy mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful!

BIRAH'-MATIKA YAAA AR-H'AMAR-RAAH'IMEEN

In the Name of ALLAH, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

BIS-MIL-LAAHIR-RAH'-MAANIR-RAH'EEM

My God, though my stores for traveling to Thee are few, my confidence in Thee has
given me a good opinion.41
ILAAHEEE IN KAANA QAL-LA ZAADEE FIL-MASEERI ILAY-KA FALAQAD
H'ASUNA Z'AN-NEE BIT-TAWAK-KULI A'LAY-KA

Though my sin has made me fear Thy punishment, my hope has let me feel secure
from Thy vengeance.
WA IN KAANA JUR-MEE QAD AKHAAFANEE MIN U'QOOBATIKA FA IN-
NA RAJAAA-EE QAD ASH-A'RANEE BIL-AM-NI MIN-NAQIMATIKA

Though my misdeed has exposed me to Thy penalty, my excellent trust has apprised
me of Thy reward.
WA IN KAANA D'AMBEE QAD A'R-RAZ''ANEE LII'QAABIKA FAQAD
AAAD'ANANEE H'US-NU THIQATEE BITHAWAABIK

Though heedlessness has put to sleep my readiness to meet Thee, knowledge has
awakened me to Thy generosity and boons.
WA IN ANAMAT-NEEL-GHAF-LATU A'NILIS-TIA'-DAADI LILIQAAA-IKA

The succession of Thy kind acts has diverted me from mentioning Thee in laudation!

The continuous rush of Thy benefits has thwarted me from spreading the news of Thy
gentle favours!

This is the station of him who

confesses to the lavishness of favours, meets them with shortcomings, and

witnesses to his own disregard and negligence.

Thou art the Clement, the Compassionate,

WA ANTAR-RA-OOFUR-RAH'EEM

the Good, the Generous,

AL-BAR-RUL-KAREEMUL-LAD'EE

who does not disappoint those who aim for Him,

LAA YUKHAY-YIBU QAAS'IDEEH

nor cast out from His courtyard those who expect from Him!
WA LAA YAT'-RUDU A'N FINAAA-IHEEE AAAMILEEHEE

In Thy yard are put down the saddlebags of the hopeful and
BISAAH'ATIKA TAH'UT'-T'U RIH'AALUR-RAAJEENA

in Thy plain stand the hopes of the help-seekers!

WA BIA'R-S'ATIKA TAQIFU AAAMAALUL-MUS-TAR-FIDEEN

So meet not our hopes by disappointing and disheartening and

FALA TUQAABIL AAAMAALANAA BIT-TAKH-YEEBI WAL-EE-AAS

clothe us not in the shirt of despair and despondency!

WA LAA TUL-BIS-NAA SIR-BAALAL-QUNOOT'I WAL-IB-LAAS

My God,

my thanksgiving is small before Thy great boons, and

TAS'AAGHARA I'NDA TAA'AZ'UMI AAALAAA-IKA SHUK-REE

my praise and news-spreading shrink beside Thy generosity toward me!

WA TAZ''AAA-ALA FEE JAMBI IK-RAAMIKA EE-YAAYA THANAAA-EE WA

Thy favours have wrapped me in the robes of the lights of faith, and
JAL-LALAT-NEE NIA'MUKA MIN ANWAARIL-EEMAANI H'ULALAA

the gentlenesses of Thy goodness have let down over me delicate curtains of might!

Thy kindnesses have collared me with collars not to be moved and adorned me with
neck-rings not to be broken!

T'AW-WAQAT-NEEE AT'-WAAQAL-LAA TUFAL

Thy boons are abundant—my tongue is too weak to count them!

FAAALAAAW-UKA JAM-MATUN Z''AU'FA LISAANEE A'N IH'-S'AAA-IHAA

Thy favours are many—my understanding falls short of grasping them, not to speak
of exhausting them!

So how can I achieve thanksgiving?

For my thanking Thee requires thanksgiving.

Whenever I say, 'To Thee belongs praise!', it becomes thereby incumbent upon me to
say, 'To Thee belongs praise'!

AN AQWLA LAKAL-H'AM-D

My God, as Thou hast fed us through Thy gentleness

ILAAHEE FAKAMAA GHAD'-D'AY-TANAA BILUT'-FIK

and nurtured us through Thy benefaction,

WA RAB-BAY-TANAA BIS'UN-I'K

so also complete for us lavish favours,

FATAM-MIM A'LAY-NAA SAWAABIGHAN-NIA'M

repel from us detested acts of vengeance, and

WA AD-FAA' A'N-NAA MAKAARIHAN-NIQAM

of the shares of the two abodes, give us their most elevated and their greatest, both the
immediate and the deferred!
WA AAATINAA MIN H'UZ'OOZ'ID-DAARAY-NI AR-FAA'HAA WA AJAL-
LAHAA A'AJILAW-WA AAAJILAA

To Thee belongs praise for Thy good trial and the lavishness of Thy favours, a praise
conforming to Thy good pleasure and attracting Thy great goodness and
magnanimity.
WA LAKAL-H'AM-DU A'LAA H'US-NI BALAAA-IKA WA SUBOOGHI NAA'-

uncover from our hearts the wrappings of doubt and the veil,

make falsehood vanish from our innermost minds,

and fix the truth in our secret thoughts,

for doubts and opinions fertilize temptations and muddy the purity of gifts and
kindnesses!

give us to enjoy the pleasure of whispered prayer to Thee,

make us drink at the pools of Thy love,

let us taste the sweetness of Thy affection and nearness,

allow us to struggle in Thee, 43

preoccupy us with obeying Thee, and

purify our intentions in devoting works to Thee,

for we exist through Thee and belong to Thee, and

we have no one to mediate with Thee but Thee!

My God, place me among the chosen, the good,

join me to the righteous, the pious,

WA AL-H'IQ-NEE BIS'-S'AALIH'EENAL-AB-RAAR

the first to reach generous gifts,

AS-SAABIQEENA ILAA ALMAK-RUMAATI

the swift to come upon good things,

ALMUSAARIE'ENA ILAAL-KHAY-RATI

the workers of the A'ABIDEENg acts of righteousness,

AL-A'AMILEENA LIL-BAAQEEAATIS'-S'AALIH'AATI

the strivers after elevated degrees!

AS-SAAE'ENA ILA RAFEEI'D-DARAJAATI

Thou art powerful over everything44 and

Make near for us the far,

and make easy for us the hard and difficult!

WA SAH-HIL A'LAY-NAAL-A'SEERASH-SHADEED

Join us to Thy servants, those who

WA AL-H'IQ-NAA BII'BAADIKAL-LAD'EENA HUM

hurry to Thee swiftly,

BIL-BIDAARI ILAY-KA YUSAARIU'WN

knock constantly at Thy door, and

WA BAABAKA A'LAAD-DAWAAMI YAT'-RUQOON

worship Thee by night and by day,

WA EE-YAAKA FIL-LAYLI WAN-NAHAARI YAA'-BUDOON

while they remain apprehensive in awe of Thee!

WA HUM MIN HAY-BATIKA MUSH-FIQOONA

Thou hast purified their drinking places,

AL-LAD'EENA S'AF-FAY-TA LAHUMUL-MASHAARIBA

taken them to the objects of their desire,

WA BAL-LAGH-TAHUMUR-RAGHAAA-IB

granted their requests,

WA ANJAH'-TA LAHUMUL-MAT'AALIB

accomplished their wishes through Thy bounty,

WA QAZ''AY-TA LAHUM MIN FAZ''-LIKAL-MAAARIB

filled their minds with Thy love, and

WA MALAA-TA LAHUM Z''AMAAA-IRAHUM MIN H'UB-BIK

quenched their thirst with Thy pure drink.

WA RAW-WAY-TAHUM MIN S'AAFEE SHIR-BIK

Through Thee have they reached the pleasure of whispered prayer to Thee,
FABIKA ILAA LAD'EED'I MUNAAJAATIKA WAS'ALOO

and in Thee have they achieved their furthest goals.

WA MINKA AQ-S'AA MAQAAS'IDIHIM H'AS'-S'ALOO

O He who
FAYAA MAN HUWA
comes toward those who come toward Him and grants gifts and bestows bounty upon
them through tenderness!

HIM A'AA-IDUM-MUF-Z''IL

He is compassionate and clement toward those heedless of His remembrance and

loving and tender in drawing them to His door!
WA BIL-GHAAFILEENA A'N D'IK-RIHEE RAH'EEMUR-RA-OOFOO-WA
BIJAD'-BIHIM ILAA BAABIHEE WADOODUN A'T'OOF

I ask Thee to place me among those of them who have

AS-ALUKA AN TAJ-A'LANEE MIN

the fullest share from Thee,

AW-FARIHIM MINKA H'AZ'-Z'AA

the highest station with Thee,

WA AA'-LAAHUM I'NDAKA MANZILAA

the most plentiful portion of Thy love, and

WA AJ-ZALIHIM MIW-WUD-DIKA QIS-MAA

the most excellent allotment of Thy knowledge,

WA AF-Z''ALIHIM FEE MAA'-RIFATIKA NAS'EEBAA

for my aspiration has been cut off from everything but Thee and

my desire has turned toward Thee alone.

Thou art my object, none other;

to Thee alone belongs my waking and my sleeplessness.

Meeting Thee is the gladness of my eye,

joining Thee the wish of my soul.

Toward Thee is my yearning,

singled out for true knowledge of Thee,

made worthy for worship of Thee,

whose heart Thou hast captivated with Thy will,

WA HAY-YAM-TA QAL-BAHOO LIIRAADATIK

whom Thou hast picked for contemplating Thee,

WA AJ-TABAY-TAHOO LIMUSHAAHADATIK

whose look Thou hast made empty for Thee,

WA AKH-LAY-TA WAJ-HAHOO LAK

whose breast Thou hast freed for Thy love,

WA FAR-RAGH-TA FOO-AADAHOO LIH'UB-BIK

whom Thou hast made desirous of what is with Thee,

WA RAGH-GHAB-TAHOO FEEMAA I'NDAK

inspired with Thy remembrance,

WA AL-HAM-TAHOO D'IK-RAK

allotted thanksgiving to Thee,

WA AW-ZAA'-TAHOO SHUK-RAK

occupied with obeying Thee,

WA SHAGHAL-TAHOO BIT'AAA'TIK
turned into one of Thy righteous creatures,
WA S'AY-YAR-TAHOO MIN S'AALIH'EE BAREE-YATIK

chosen for whispered prayer to Thee, and

WA AKH-TAR-TAHOO LIMUNAAJAATIK

from whom Thou hast cut off all things which cut him off from Thee!
WA QAT'AA'-TA A'N-HOO KUL-LA SHAY-EE-YAQ-T'AU'HOO A'NK

AL-LAHUM-MA AJ-A'L-NAA MIM-MAN-

whose habit is rejoicing in Thee and yearning for Thee,

JIBAAHUHUM SAAJIDATUL-LIA'Z'AMATIK

their eyes wakeful in Thy service,

WA U'YOONUHUM SAAHIRATUN FEE KHID-MATIK

their tears flowing in dread of Thee,

WA DUMOOU'HUM SAAA-ILATUM-MIN KHASH-YATIK

their hearts fixed upon Thy love,

WA QULOOBUHUM MUTAA'L-LIQATUM-BIMAH'AB-BATIK

their cores shaken with awe of Thee.

WA AF-IDATUHUM MUN-KHALIA'TUM-MIM-MAHAABATIK

O He, the lights of whose holiness induce wonder in the eyes of His lovers,
YAA MAN ANWAARU QUD-SIHEE LIAB-S'AARI MUH'IB-BEEHEE RAAA-
IQAH

the glories of whose face arouse the longing of the hearts of His knowers!
WA SUBUH'AATU WAJ-HIHEE LIQULOOBI A'ARIFEEHEE SHAAA-IQATUN

O Furthest Wish of the hearts of the yearners!

YAA MUNAA QULOOBIL-MUSH-TAAQEEN

O Utmost Limit of the hopes of the lovers!

WA YAA GHAAYATA AAAMAALIL-MUH'IB-BEEN

I ask from Thee love for Thee, love for those who love Thee,
AS-ALUKA H'UB-BAK WA H'UB-BA MAY-YUH'IB-BUK
love for every work which will join me to Thy nearness, and
WA H'UB-BA KUL-LI A'MALEE-YOOS'ILUNEEE ILA QUR-BIK

that Thou makest Thyself more beloved to me than anything other than Thee
WA AN TAJ-A'LAKA AH'AB-BA ILAY-YA MIM-MAA SIWAAK

and makest
WA AN TAJ-A'L

my love for Thee lead to Thy good pleasure, and

H'UB-BEEE EE-YAAKA QAAA-IDAN ILAA RIZ''-WAANIK

my yearning for Thee protect against disobeying Thee!

WA SHAW-QEEE ILAY-KA D'AAA-IDANA A'N I'S'-YAANIK

Oblige me by allowing me to gaze upon Thee,

WA AM-NUM-BIN-NAZ'ARI ILAY-KA A'LAY

gaze upon me with the eye of affection and tenderness,

WA ANZ'UR BIA'Y-NIL-WUD-DI WAL-A'T'-FI ILAY

turn not Thy face away from me, and

WA LAA TAS'-RIF A'N-NEE WAJ-HAK

make me one of the people of happiness with Thee and favored position!

O Responder, O Most Merciful of the merciful!

In the Name of ALLAH, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

My God,
ILAAHEE

I have no mediation with Thee but the tender acts of Thy clemency,
LAY-SA LEE WASEELATUN ILAY-KA IL-LAA A'WAAT'IFU RAA-FATIKA

nor any way to come to Thee but the gentle favours of Thy mercy and the intercession
of Thy Prophet, the prophet of mercy, who rescued the community from confusion.
WA LAA LEE D'AREEA'TUN ILAY-KA IL-LAA A'WAARIFU RAH'-MATIKA
WA SHAFAAA'TU NABEE-YIKA NABEE-YIR-RAH'-MATI WA MUNQID'IL-
UM-MATI MINAL-GHUM-MAH

Make these two my tie to attaining Thy forgiveness

FAJ-A'L-HUMAA LEE SABABAN ILAA NAY-LI GHUF-RAANIK

and let them take me to triumph through Thy good pleasure!

WA S'AY-YIR-HUMAA LEE WUS'-LATAN ILAAL-FAW-ZI BIRIZ''-WAANIKA

My hope has dismounted in the sacred precinct of Thy generosity,

WA QAD H'AL-LA RAJAAA-EE BIH'ARAMI KARAMIK

my craving has alighted in the courtyard of Thy munificence.

WA H'AT'-T'A T'AMAE'E BIFINAAA-I JOODIKA

So actualize my expectation from Thee,

FAH'AQ-QIQ FEEKA AMALEE

seal my works with good, and

WA AKH-TIM BIL-KHAY-RI A'MALEE

place me among Thy selected friends, those whom Thou hast

WAJ-A'L-NEE MIN S'AF-WATIKAL-LAD'EENA

set down in the midst of Thy Garden, and

AH'-LAL-TAHUM BUH'-BOOH'ATA JAN-NATIK

settled in the abode of Thy honor,

WA BAW-WAA-TAHUM DAARA KARAAMATIK

whose eyes Thou hast gladdened by gazing upon Thee on the day of meeting Thee,
and
WA AQ-RAR-TA AA'-YUNAHUM BIN-NAZ'ARI ILAY-KA YAW-MA LIQAAA-
IKA

whom Thou hast made heirs to the sure stations in Thy neighborhood!
WA AW-RATH-TAHUM MANAAZILAS'-S'ID-QI FEE JAWAARIK

none more generous than whom is reached by the reachers and

LAA YAFIDUL-WAAFIDOONA A'LAAA AK-RAMA MIN-HOO

none more merciful than whom is found by the aimers!

WA LAA YAJIDUL-QAAS'IDOONA AR-H'AMA MIN-H

O Best of those with whom the lonely are alone,

YAA KHAY-RA MAN KHALAA BIHEE WAH'EED
O Tenderest of those with whom outcasts seelt haven!
WA YAAA AA'-T'AFA MAN AAAWAAA ILAY-HEE T'AREEDUN

Toward the expanse of Thy pardon have I extended my hand,

ILAA SAA'TI A'F-WIKA MADAT-TU YADEE

upon the skirt of Thy generosity have I fastened my grasp!

WA BID'AY-LI KARAMIKA AA'-LAQ-TU KAF-FEE

Show me no deprivation
FALA TOOLINEEL-H'IR-MAAN

and afflict me not with disappointment and loss!

WA LAA TUB-LINEE BIL-KHAY-BATI WAL-KHUS-RAAN

O Hearer of supplications!

free me of my poverty but Thy affection and beneficence,

WA FAQ-REE LAA YUGH-NEEHEEE IL-LAA A'T'-FUKA WA IH'-SAANUK

still my fright but Thy security,

WA RAW-A'TEE LAA YUSAK-KINUHAAA IL-LAAA AMAANUK

exalt my abasement but Thy sovereignty,

WA D'IL-LATEE LAA YUI'Z-ZUHAAA IL-LAA SUL-T'ANUK

take me to my hope but Thy bounty,

WA UM-NEEATEE LAA YUBAL-LIGHUNEEHAAA IL-LAA FAZ''-LUKA

remedy my lack but Thy graciousness,

WA KHAL-LATEE LAA YASUD-DUHAAA IL-LAA T'AW-LUKA
accomplish my need other than Thou,
WA H'AAJATEE LAA YAQ-Z''EEHAA GHAY-RUK

relieve my distress other than Thy mercy,

WA KAR-BEE LAA YUFAR-RIJUHOO SIWAA RAH'-MATIK

remove my injury other than Thy clemency,

cool my burning thirst but reaching Thee,

WA GHUL-LATEE LAA YUBAR-RIDUHAAA IL-LAA WAS'-LUK

quench my ardour but meeting Thee,

WA LAW-A'TEE LAA YUT'-FEEHAAA IL-LAA LIQAAAW-UK

damp my yearning but gazing upon Thy face,

WA SHAW-QEEE ILAY-KA LAA YABUL-LUHOOO IL-LAAN-NAZ'ARU ILAA

settle my settling place without closeness to Thee,

WA QARAAREE LAA YAQIR-RU DOONA DUNOO-WEE MINK

allay my worry but Thy repose,

cure my illness but Thy medicine,

WA SAQAMEE LAA YASH-FEEHEEE IL-LAA T'IB-BUK

eliminate my grief but Thy nearness,

WA GHAM-MEE LAA YUZEELUHOOO IL-LAA QUR-BUK

heal my wound but Thy forgiveness,

remove the rust on my heart but Thy pardon,

banish the confusing thoughts from my breast but Thy command

O Utmost Hope of the hopers!

FAYAA MUNTAHAAA AMALIL-AAAMILEENA

O Ultimate Demand of the askers

WA YAA GHAAYATA SOO-LIS-SAAA-ILEEN

O Furthest Request of the requesters!

O Highest Desire of the desirers

O Patron of the righteous

My God, have mercy upon Thy lowly slave

of silent tongue and few good works,

D'AAL-LISAANIL-KALEELI WAL-A'MALIL-QALEEL

obligate him through Thy plentiful graciousness,

shelter him under Thy plentS xus shade!

Thou hast assigned to Thy creatures no way to know Thee save incapacity to know

My God, place us among those

ILAAHEE FAJ-A'L-NAA MINAL-LAD'EENA

within the gardens of the trees of yearning for Thee taken firm root and
TARAS-SAKHAT ASH-JAARUSH-SHAW-QI ILAY-KA FEE H'ADAAA-IQI
S'UDOORIHIM-

the assemblies of whose hearts seized by the ardour of Thy love!

WA AKHAD'AT LAW-A'TU MAH'AB-BATIKA BIMAJAAMII' QULOOBIHIM-

They seek shelter in the nests of meditation,

FAHUM ILAAA AW-KAARIL-AF-KAARI YAA-WOON

feed upon the gardens of nearness and disclosure,

WA FEE REEAAZ''IL-QUR-BI WAL-MUKAASHAFATI YAR-TAU'WNA

drink from the pools of love with the cup of gentle favour, and
WA MIN H'EEAAZ''IL-MAH'AB-BATI BIKAA-SIL-MULAAT'AFATI YAK-
RAU'WN

enter into the watering-places of warm affection.

WA SHARAAA-IA'L-MUS'AAFAATI YARIDOON

The covering has been lifted from their eyes, 45

QAD KUSHIFAL-GHIT'AAA-U A'N AB-S'AARIHIM

the darkness of disquiet has been dispelled from their beliefs and their innermost
minds,
WA ANJALAT Z'UL-MATUR-RAY-BI A'N A'QAAA-IDIHIM WA Z''AMAAA-
IRIHIM-

the contention of doubt has been negated from their hearts and their secret thoughts,
WA ANTAFAT MUKHAALAJATUSH-SHAK-KI A'N QULOOBIHIM WA
SARAAA-IRIHIM-

their breasts have expanded through the verification of true knowledge,

WA ANSHARAH'AT BITAH'-QEEQIL-MAA'-RIFATI S'UDOORUHUM-

their aspirations have ascended through precedent good fortune in renunciation,

WA A'LAT LISAB-QIS-SAA'ADATI FIZ-ZAHAADATI HIMAMUHUM-
their drinking is sweet from the spring of devotion to good works,
WA A'D'UBA FEE MAE'ENIL-MUA'AMALATI SHIR-BUHUM-

their secret thoughts are delicious in the sitting-place of intimacy,

WA T'AABA FEE MAJ-LISIL-UNSI SIR-RUHUM-

their minds are secure in the place of terror,

WA AMINA FEE MAW-T'INIL-MAKHAAFATI SIR-BUHUM

their souls are serene through the return to the Lord of lords, 46
WA AT'-MAAN-NAT BIR-RUJOOI' ILAA RAB-BIL-AR-BAABI ANFUSUHUM-

their spirits have reached certitude through triumph and prosperity,

WA TAYAQ-QANAT BIL-FAW-ZI WAL-FALAAHEE AR-WAAH'UHUM-

their eyes have been gladdened through gazing upon their Beloved,
WA QAR-RAT BIN-NAZ'ARI ILAA MAH'-BOOBIHIM AA'-YUNUHUM-

their settling place has been settled through reaching the request and attaining the
expectation,
WAS-TAQAR-RA BIID-RAAKIS-SOO-LI WA NAY-LIL-MAA-MOOLI
QARAARUHUM-

and their commerce has profited through the sale of this world for the next
WA RABIH'AT FEE BAY-I'D-DUNYAA BIL-AAAKHIRATI TIJAARATUHUM-

My God,
ILAAHEE

how agreeable for hearts are the thoughts inspiring Thy remembrance,
MAAA ALAD'-D'A KHAWAAT'IRAL-IL-HAAMI BID'IK-RIKA A'LAAL-
QULOOB

how sweet traveling to Thee through imagination upon the roads of the unseen
worlds,
WA MAAA AH'-LAAL-MASEERA ILAY-KA BIL-AW-HAAMI FEE
MASAALIKIL-GHUYOOB

how pleasant the taste of Thy love,

WA MAAA AT'-YABA T'AA'-MA H'UB-BIK

how delightful the drink of Thy nearness!

WA MAAA AA'-D'ABA SHIR-BA QUR-BIK

So give us refuge from Thy casting out and Thy sending far, and
FAAI'D'-NA MIN T'AR-DIKA WA IB-A'ADIK

place us among
WAJ-A'L-NAA MIN

the most elect of Thy knowers,

AKHAS'-S'I A'ARIFEEK

the most righteous of Thy servants,

WA AS'-LAHEE I'BAADIK

the most truthful of Thy obeyers,

WA AS'-DAQI T'AAA-IE'EK

the most sincere of Thy worshipers!

WA AKH-LAS'I U'B-BAADIKA

O All-mighty, O Majestic,
YAA A'Z'EEMU YAA JALEEL

O Generous, O Endower!
YAA KAREEMU YAA MUNEEL

By Thy mercy and kindness, O Most Merciful of the merciful!

exalted for me to remember Thee,
ILAAHEE LAW-LAAL-WAAJIBU MIN QABOOLI AM-RIKA LANAZ-ZAH-
TUKA MIN D'IK-REEE EE-YAAKA

for I remember Thee in my measure, not in Thy measure, and

A'LAAA AN-NA D'IK-REE LAKA BIQAD-REE LAA BIQAD-RIK

my scope can hardly reach the point where I may be a locus for calling Thee holy!
WA MAA A'SAAA AY-YAB-LUGHA MIQ-DAAREE H'AT-TAAA AJ-A'LA
MAH'AL-LAL-LITAQ-DEESIK

Among Thy greatest favours to us is

WA MIN AA'-Z'AMIN-NIA'MI A'LAY-NAA

the running of Thy remembrance across our tongues and

JARAYAANU D'IK-RIKA A'LAAA AL-SINATINAA
Thy permission to us to supplicate Thee, declare Thee exalted, and call Thee holy!
WA ID'-NUKA LANAA BIDUA'AA-IKA WA TANZEEHIKA WA TAS-BEEH'IK

My God, inspire with Thy remembrance

ILAAHEE FAAL-HIM-NAA D'IK-RAK

alone and in assemblies,

FEEL-KHALAAA-I WAL-MALAAA-

by night and day,

WAL-LAY-LI WAN-NAHAAR

publicly and secretly,

WAL-IA'-LAANI WAL-IS-RAAR

in prosperity and adversity!

WA FIS-SAR-RAAA-I WAZ''-Z''AR-RAAA-I

Make us intimate with silent remembrance,

WA AAANIS-NAA BID'-D'IK-RIL-KHAFEE

employ us in purified works and effort pleasing to Thee, and

WAS-TAA'-MIL-NAA BIL-A'MALIZ-ZAKEE-YI WAS-SAA'-YIL-MAR-Z''EE

reward us with the full balance!

WA JAAZINAA BIL-MEEZAANIL-WAFEE

My God,
ILAAHEE

love-mad hearts are enraptured by Thee,

BIKA HAAMATIL-QULOOBUL-WAALIHAH

disparate intellects are brought together by knowing Thee, 47

WA A'LAA MAA'-RIFATIKA JUMIA'TIL-U'QOOLUL-MUTABAAYINAH

hearts find no serenity except in remembering Thee,

FALAA TAT'-MA-IN-NUL-QULOOBU IL-LAA BID'IK-RAAKA

souls End no rest except in seeing Thee.

WA LAA TAS-KUNUN-NUFOOSU IL-LAA I'NDA ROO-YAAKA

Thou art the glorified in every place,

ANTAL-MUSAB-BAHOO FEE KUL-LI MAKAAN

the worshiped at every time,

WAL-MAA'-BOODU FEE KUL-LI ZAMAANIN
the found at every moment,
WAL-MAW-JOODU FEE KUL-LI AWAAN

the called by every tongue,

WAL-MAD-U'W-WU BIKUL-LI LISAAN

the magnified in every heart!

WAL-MUA'Z'-Z'AMU FEE KUL-LI JANAAN

I pray forgiveness from Thee for

WA AS-TAGH-FIRUK

every pleasure but remembering Thee,

MIN KUL-LI LAD'-D'ATIM-BIGHAY-RI D'IK-RIK

every ease but intimacy with Thee,

WA MIN KUL-LI RAAH'ATIM-BIGHAY-RI UNSIK

every happiness but nearness to Thee,

WA MIN KUL-LI SUROORIM-BIGHAY-RI QUR-BIK

every occupation but obeying Thee!

WA MIN KUL-LI SHUGH-LIM-BIGHAY-RI T'AAA'TIK

My God, Thou hast said—and Thy word is true—

ILAAHEEE ANTA QUL-TA WA QAW-LUKAL-H'AQ-QU:

(O you who have faith, remember ALLAH with much remembrance and glorify Him
at dasan and in the evening!)48

Thou hast said—and Thy word is true—

WA QUL-TA WA QAW-LUKAL-H'AQ

Remember Me, and I will remember you!

(FAD'-KUROONEEE AD'-KUR-KUM)

Thou hast commanded us to remember Thee, 49 and promised us that Thou wilt
remember us thereby, in order to ennoble, respect, and honor us.
FAAMAR-TANAA BID'IK-RIKA WA WAA'T-TANA A'LAY-HEEE AN TAD'-
KURANA TASH-REEFAL-LANAA WATAF-KHEEMAW-WA IA'-Z'AAMAA

Here we are, remembering Thee as Thou hast commanded us!

WAHAA NAH'-NU D'AAKIROOKA KAMAAA AMAR-TANAA

So accomplish what Thou hast promised,

FA ANJIZ LANAA MAA WAA'T-TANAA

O Refuge of the refuge-seekers!

O Deliverer of the perishing!

WA YAA MUNJEEAL-HAALIKEEN

O Preserver of the pitiful!

WA YAA A'AS'IMAL-BAAA-ISEEN

O Merciful toward the miserable!

O Granter of sanctuary to the fearful!

WA YAA MUJEERAL-KHAAA-IFEEN

O Aider of the troubled!

WA YAA MUGHEETHAL-MAK-ROOBEEN
O Fortress of the refugees!
WA YAA H'IS'-NAL-LAAJEEN

If I seek not refuge in Thy might, in whom shall I seek refuge?

IL-LAM AU'D' BII'Z-ZATIKA FABIMAN AU'WD'

If I seek not shelter in Thy power, in whom shall I seek shelter?

WA IL-LAM ALUD' BIQUD-RATIKA FABIMAN ALOOD'

Sins have made me seek asylum in laying hold on the skirts of Thy pardon,
WA QAD AL-JAAT-NEED'-D'UNOOBU ILAAT-TASHAB-BUTHI BID'-YAALI
A'F-WIK

offenses have compelled me to beg the opening of the doors of Thy forgiveness,
WA AH'-WAJAT-NEEL-KHAT'AAYAAA ILAA AS-TIF-TAAHEE AB-WAABI
S'AF-H'IK

evil doing has summoned me to dismount in the courtyard of Thy might,

WA DAA'T-NEEL-ISAAA-ATU ILAAL-INAAKHATI BIFINAAA-I I'Z-ZIK

fear of Thy vengeance has prompted me to cling to the handhold of Thy tenderness!
WA H'AMALAT-NEEL-MAKHAAFATU MIN-NAQIMATIKA A'LAAT-TAMAS-
SUKI BIU'R-WATI A'T'-FIK

It is not right for him who holds fast to Thy cord to be abandoned,
WA MAAA AH'AQ-QU MANI AA'-TAS'AMA BIH'AB-LIKA AY-YUKH-D'AL

nor proper for him who seeks the sanctuary of Thy might to be surrendered or
disregarded.
WA LAA YALEEQU BIMANI AS-TAJAARA BII'Z-ZIKA AY-YUS-LAMA AW
YUH-MAL

My God, empty us not of Thy defending,

ILAAHEE FALAA TUKH-LINAA MIN H'IMAAYATIK

strip us not of Thy guarding, and

WA LAA TUA'-RINAA MIR-RIA'AYATIK

protect us from the roads of destruction,

WA D'UD-NAA A'M-MAWAARIDIL-HALAKAH

for we are in Thy eye and under Thy wing!

FA IN-NAA BIA'Y-NIKA WA FEE KANAFIKA WA LAK

I ask Thee by those whom Thou hast singled out, Thy angels and the righteous among
Thy creatures, to assign over us a protector through which Thou wilt
AS-ALUKA BIH-LI KHAAAS'-S'ATIKA MIM-MALAAA-IKATIKA WAS'-
S'AALIH'EENA MIM-BAREE-YATIKA AN TAJ-A'LA A'LAY-NAA
WAAQEEAH

deliver us from destructions,

TUNJEENAA MINAL-HALAKAT

turn aside from us blights, and

WA TUJAN-NIBUNAA MINAL-AAAFAAT

hide us from the striking of great afflictions,

WA TUKIN-NUNAA MIN DAWAAHEEL-MUS'EEBAAT

to send down upon us some of Thy tranquility,

WA AN TUNZILA A'LAY-NAA MIN SAKEENATIK

to wrap our faces in the lights of love for Thee,

WA AN TUGHASH-SHEEA WUJOOHANAA BINWAARI MAH'AB-BATIK

to give us haven in Thy strong pillar, 50 and

WA AN TOO-WIYANAAA ILAA SHADEEDI RUK-NIK

to gather us under the wings of Thy preservation!

WA AN TAH'-WIYANAA FEEE AK-NAAFI I'S'-MATIK

By Thy clemency and Thy mercy, !

BIRAA-FATIKA WA RAH'-MATIKA

MUNAAJAATUZ-ZAAHIDEEN

In the Name of ALLAH, the All-merciful, the All-compassionate

BIS-MIL-LAAHIR-RAH'-MAANIR-RAH'EEM

My God, Thou hast settled us in an abode which has

ILAAHEEE AS-KANTANAA

dug for us pits of deception, and

DAARANA H'AFARAT LANAA H'UFARA MAK-RIHAA

Thou hast fastened us by the hands of death in the snares of that abode's treachery!
WA A'L-LAQ-TANAA BIY-DEEL-MANAAYAA FEE H'ABAAA-ILI GHAD-
RIHAA

In Thee we seek asylum from the tricks of its guile,

FAALAY-KA NAL-TAJI-U MIM-MAKAAA-IDI KHUDAI'HAA

and to Thee we hold fast, lest we be deluded by the glitter of its ornaments! It
WA BIKA NAA'-TAS'IMU MINALIGH-TIRAAR BIZAKHAARIFI
ZEENATIHAA FA IN-NAHA

destroys its pursuers and

AL-MUH-LIKATU T'UL-LAABAHAA

ruins its settlers,

AL-MUT-LIFATU H'UL-LAALAHAA

it is stuffed with blights and

AL-MAH'-SHOO-WATU BIL-AAAFAATI

loaded with calamities.

AL-MASH-H'OONATU BIN-NAKABAAT

My God, induce us to renounce it and

ILAAHEE FAZAH-HID-NA FEEHAA

keep us safe from it by Thy giving success and Thy preservation from sin.
WA SAL-LIM-NAA MIN-HAA BITAW-FEEQIKA WA I'S'-MATIKA

Strip from us the robes of opposing Thee,

WA ANZAA' A'N-NAA JALAABEEBA MUKHAALAFATIK

attend to our affairs through Thy good sufficiency,

WA TAWAL-LA UMOORANAA BIH'US-NI KIFAAYATIKA

amplify our increase from the boundless plenty of Thy mercy,

WA AW-FIR MAZEEDANAA MIN SAA'TI RAH'-MATIKA

be liberal in our gifts from the overflow of Thy grants,

WA AJ-MIL S'ILAATINAA MIN FAY-Z''I MAWAAHIBIK

plant in our hearts the trees of Thy love,

WAGH-RIS FEEE AF-IDATINAAA ASH-JAARA MAH'AB-BATIK

complete for us the lights of Thy knowledge,

WA AT-MIM LANAAA ANWAARA MAA'-RIFATIK

give us to taste the sweetness of Thy pardon and the pleasure of Thy forgiveness,
WA AD'IQ-NAA H'ALAAWATA A'F-WIKA WA LAD'-D'ATA MAGH-FIRATIK

gladden our eyes on the day of meeting Thee with the vision of Thee,
WA AQ-RIR AA'-YUNANAA YAW-MA LIQAAA-IKA BIROO-YATIK

dislodge the love of this world from our spirits,

WA AKH-RIJ H'UB-BAD-DUNYAA MIN QULOOBINAA

just as Thou hast done for the righteous, Thy selected friends, and for the pious, those
whom Thou hast singled out!
KAMA FAA'L-TA BIS'-S'AALIH'EENA MIN S'AF-WATIKA WAL-AB-RAARI
