3 Deployment
This chapter describes how to activate, verify, and deactivate the basic feature WRFD-030011
MIMO Prime.
6.3.1 Requirements
Hardware
All RF units, except the 20 W RRU3801C, 8 U WRFU, MTRU, and GSM-only RF
units, support this feature.
For RRUs with only one transmit channel, two of such RRUs must be configured.
The 3900 series base stations must be configured with the UBBP, WBBPb, WBBPd,
or WBBPf board.
The RRU3908 V2 and MRFU V2 of RAN14.0 support this feature.
Other features
WRFD-010610 HSDPA Introduction Package
License
For details about how to activate the license, see License Management Feature
Parameter Description.
If RAN Sharing or MOCN is enabled, the licensed resource is allocated among the primary
and secondary operators according to the method listed in the License Allocation for
Multiple Operators column.
6.3.2 Precautions
The downlink bandwidth for MIMO Prime is twice that for single output, and therefore the
number of cells supported by a CPRI port may decrease.
For macro base stations/micro base stations, you are advised to run the DEA UCELL command
to deactivate the cells to be added to a MIMO Prime cell group before activating MIMO Prime.
Otherwise, online UEs in these cells will experience call drops.
Enabling this feature will make a cell become unavailable if the RRU carrying the cell meets the
following condition: TT is set to RING and BM is set to HOT in the RRUCHAIN configuration.
It is good practice to use dual-polarized antennas when implementing this feature. Using two
independent antennas might compromise the coverage performance.
6.3.3 Activation
1. Run the RNC MML command DEA UCELL to deactivate the target cell. In this step,
set Validation indication to Deactivated. (CME single configuration: select an RNC in
the left pane of the planned data area, search for and double-click the target MO, and set
and save parameters for the MO; CME batch modification center: Modifying UMTS Cell
Parameters in Batches)
WARNING:
Perform this operation when the traffic is light (for example, in the early morning) because
the operation may interrupt services.
2. (Optional) When two 1T RRUs need to be connected, run the NodeB MML
command ADD RFCONNGRP to configure RRU connection through RF cables.
3. On the NodeB, delete sector equipment from the local cell, add sector equipment
configurations, and then add sector equipment and configure the switch for VAM.
a. Run the NodeB MML command RMV ULOCELLSECTOREQM to remove sector
equipment from the local cell. (CME single configuration: select a NodeB in the left
pane of the planned data area, search for and double-click the target MO, and set
and save parameters for the MO; CME batch modification center: Modifying
Physical NodeB Parameters in Batches)
b. Run the NodeB MML command ADD SECTOR to add sectors. (CME single
configuration: select a NodeB in the left pane of the planned data area, search for
and double-click the target MO, and set and save parameters for the MO; CME
batch modification center: Modifying Physical NodeB Parameters in Batches)
NOTE:
If sectors have been configured or there is sector equipment with two master
TX antennas, do not add sectors or sector equipment.
c. Run the NodeB MML command ADD SECTOREQM to add sector equipment.
(CME single configuration: select a NodeB in the left pane of the planned data
area, search for and double-click the target MO, and set and save parameters for
the MO; CME batch modification center: Modifying Physical NodeB Parameters in
Batches)
d. Run the NodeB MML command MOD ULOCELL to modify the local cell. (CME
single configuration: select a NodeB in the left pane of the planned data area,
search for and double-click the target MO, and set and save parameters for the
MO; CME batch modification center: Modifying Physical NodeB Parameters in
Batches) In this step, set Support VAM to TRUE(TRUE).
NOTE:
MIMO Prime is based on the VAM technology. VAM depends on the
configuration of dual-antenna transmit diversity for the sector, not the value
of Two Tx Way for the local cell. For details, see 3 Technical Description.
When the local cell is not MIMO-capable, it is recommended that Two Tx
Way be set to FALSE for the local cell. When the local cell is MIMO-capable,
see MIMO Feature Parameter Description.
When Two Tx Way is set to FALSE for the local cell, configure dual
transmitting way for the sector by referring to section "Scenario 9" in NodeB
Carrier Management Feature Parameter Description. When Two Tx Way is
set to TRUE, configure that by referring to section "Scenario 10" in NodeB
Carrier Management Feature Parameter Description.
e. Run the NodeB MML command ADD ULOCELLSECTOREQM to add sector
equipment added in 3.c to the local cell. (CME single configuration: select a NodeB
in the left pane of the planned data area, search for and double-click the target
MO, and set and save parameters for the MO; CME batch modification center:
Modifying Physical NodeB Parameters in Batches)
4. Run the NodeB MML command SET ULOCELLMACHSPARA (CME single
configuration: select a NodeB in the left pane of the planned data area, search for and
double-click the target MO, and set and save parameters for the MO; CME batch
modification center: Modifying Physical NodeB Parameters in Batches). In this step,
set MIMO Prime Switch to OPEN(open).
5. Run the RNC MML command ACT UCELL to activate the target cell. In this step,
set Validation indication to Activated. (CME single configuration: select an RNC in the
left pane of the planned data area, search for and double-click the target MO, and set and
save parameters for the MO; CME batch modification center: Modifying UMTS Cell
Parameters in Batches)
NOTE:
The procedure of activating MIMO Prime on a cell enabled with Independent Demodulation of
Signals from Multiple RRUs in One Cell is the same as that on a common cell.
6.3.5 Deactivation
1. Run the RNC MML command DEA UCELL (CME single configuration: select an RNC in
the left pane of the planned data area, search for and double-click the target MO, and set
and save parameters for the MO; CME batch modification center: Modifying UMTS Cell
Parameters in Batches) to deactivate the target cell. In this step, set Validation
indication to Deactivated.
2. On the NodeB, modify configurations of the local cell.
a. Run the NodeB MML command RMV ULOCELLSECTOREQM (CME single
configuration: select a NodeB in the left pane of the planned data area, search for
and double-click the target MO, and set and save parameters for the MO; CME
batch modification center: Modifying Physical NodeB Parameters in Batches) to
remove sector equipment from the local cell.
b. (Optional) If there is no available sector equipment, run the NodeB MML
command ADD SECTOREQM (CME single configuration: select a NodeB in the
left pane of the planned data area, search for and double-click the target MO, and
set and save parameters for the MO; CME batch modification center: Modifying
Physical NodeB Parameters in Batches) to add sector equipment.

a NodeB in the left pane of the planned data area, search for and double-click the
target MO, and set and save parameters for the MO; CME batch modification
center: Modifying Physical NodeB Parameters in Batches) to modify the local cell.
In this step, set Support VAM to FALSE(FALSE).
d. Run the NodeB MML command ADD ULOCELLSECTOREQM (CME single
configuration: select a NodeB in the left pane of the planned data area, search for
and double-click the target MO, and set and save parameters for the MO; CME
batch modification center: Modifying Physical NodeB Parameters in Batches) to
add the available sector equipment or the sector equipment added in sub-step 2 to
the local cell.
In this step,
set MIMO Prime Switch to CLOSE(close).
