Main Aim: By the end of my lesson, students will be able to develop their ability to read an article about mobile phones for gist and specific
information.
Subsidiary Aim: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to develop their oral fluency by discussing points in the post-reading activity.
Context:
Students read about people in daily life and likes and dislikes about mobile phones.
Materials:
Face2Face Intermediate 1B, Ex 3&4, p.6-7
Assumptions:
Ss will be familiar with phrases associated to love and hate (as on P.6, Ex.1) and understand the concept of like and dislike.

Lead-in 5 minutes 1. Ask Ss to raise their hands if they answer is Yes to the
following questions: (Say YES and raise one hand up)
• Do you have a mobile phone?
• Do you like to use your mobile phone?
• Do you use it to call family?
• Do you use it when you are bored?
2. In pairs, talk about the advantages and disadvantages
about mobile phones. Question as follows:
• What are the good things and bad things about
mobile phones?
Time allocated :1-2 minutes
3.T elicit answers from Ss and write them on the board on
a table.
Pre-teach 5 minutes 1.T gives instructions about the task. Instructions as
follows:
a) T will give strips of phrases and its meaning.
b) You have to match the phrases to the correct
meanings.
c) Work in groups (There will be 4 groups)
2. In groups, Ss move to another group to check on their
answers. T hands out the answer key for each group.
3. T monitors and gives feedback in during group
discussion.

Prediction 5 minutes 1.Gives out copies of the photos and the title on page 6.
• Title: Love-hate relationships
2.Elicit answers from students based on the pictures.
Questions as follows:
• What is Amy doing?
• How does she feel?
• What is Jeremy doing?
• How does he feel?
• Between Jeremy and Amy, who loves the mobile
phone?
• Between Jeremy and Amy, who hates the mobile
phone?
3.Students guess what the reading will be about.
While Reading -Gist 10 minutes 1.Gives instructions on reading task.
• Read quietly.
• Read it alone
• Only 3 minutes to read.
2.T Hands out the reading text and gives time for Ss to
read.
3.T Hands out a worksheet to check understanding of the
text. Instructions as follows:
• Work alone (individually)
• Circle the correct sentences.
• (Later) Check answers with the person next to
you,
5. T gives feedback on answers.
While Reading – 10 minutes 1.Ss to complete Exercise 4B. Instructions as follows:
Specific Information • Read the text again.
• Read the sentences. Circle True or False.
• Answer the questions alone/individually.

Post Reading 5 minutes 1.Group discussion:
• Teacher asks students ‘How life would be without
mobile phone? Better? Worse? Different?
• T gives her opinion.
• Name the groups, Group A, B, C and D. Work in
groups.
• Discuss with group members and write short
answers on a piece of paper (use the back of the
paper from the Prediction stage).
2. T monitors the speaking activity and gives feedback on
any errors.
3. T writes the answers on the board (table).
