Artifact #7: Literacy Lesson Plan.

The seventh artifact included in this section is a literacy lesson plan that I created for a

hypothetical second grade class. The main focus of this lesson plan was guided reading

instruction while the main topic was learning about character traits. As the reader will be able to

tell by the end of this section I have the ability to create engaging lesson plans for students in the

general education population as well as accommodate and modify my lessons for the special

education population. I am also capable of adapting my lessons to the Common Core Curriculum

English Language Arts standards.

INTASC Standards

Standard #7: Planning for Instruction.

The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning

goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and

pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

Standard #8: Instructional Strategies.

The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage

learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills

to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

the curriculum and utilize a range of strategies and assessments to address differences. Educators

NYS Learning Standards:

Standard 1: Language for Information and Understanding Students will listen, speak,

read, and write for information and understanding. As listeners and readers, students will collect

data, facts, and ideas; discover relationships, concepts, and generalizations; and use knowledge

generated from oral, written, and electronically produced texts. As speakers and writers, they

will use oral and written language that follows the accepted conventions of the English language

to acquire, interpret, apply, and transmit information.
