    Artifact #7: Literacy Lesson Plan.

    The seventh artifact included in this section is a literacy lesson plan that I created for a

    hypothetical second grade class. The main focus of this lesson plan was guided reading

    instruction while the main topic was learning about character traits. As the reader will be able to

    tell by the end of this section I have the ability to create engaging lesson plans for students in the

    general education population as well as accommodate and modify my lessons for the special

    education population. I am also capable of adapting my lessons to the Common Core Curriculum

    English Language Arts standards.

    INTASC Standards

    Standard #7: Planning for Instruction.

    The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning

    goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and

    pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.

    Standard #8: Instructional Strategies.

    The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage

    learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills

    to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

    NYS Code of Ethics for Educators

    Principle 2: Educators create, support, and maintain challenging learning environments

    for all. Educators apply their professional knowledge to promote student learning. They know

    the curriculum and utilize a range of strategies and assessments to address differences. Educators

    develop and implement programs based upon a strong understanding of human development and
    learning theory. They support a challenging learning environment. They advocate for necessary

    resources to teach to higher levels of learning. They establish and maintain clear standards of

    behavior and civility. Educators are role models, displaying the habits of mind and work

    necessary to develop and apply knowledge while simultaneously displaying a curiosity and

    Standard and Statement: 7. Use information gained from the illustrations and words in

    a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.

    NYS Learning Standards:

    Standard 1: Language for Information and Understanding Students will listen, speak,

    read, and write for information and understanding. As listeners and readers, students will collect

    data, facts, and ideas; discover relationships, concepts, and generalizations; and use knowledge

    generated from oral, written, and electronically produced texts. As speakers and writers, they

    will use oral and written language that follows the accepted conventions of the English language

    to acquire, interpret, apply, and transmit information.
