Final reflection – Kindergarten experience

Aims I had at the beginning and things that I have learnt.

The main aim I had at the beginning of the practicum was to put everything I had learnt into
practice -. Not only theories or strategies but also, and methodologies that I have learnt during the
observation period.

I knew form the beginning that teaching at kindergarten level would be a wonderful experience for
me and for students. The classes were amazing, everything was perfect as I could speak all in
English, students could solve the tasks and sometimes they produced words without being asked to
do it. What is more, they were really engaged in all the activities we did. Especially, during the
warm up, presentation and games.

I learnt a lot from students, they changed my way of thinking about working collaboratively in the
classes, the showed me that they could work collaboratively without arguing and respecting turns.
Furthermore, I learnt how to motivate those students that are shy or that don’t want to take part
in games. The most important thing that I will never forget is the love I received and their smiling
faces when I went into the class. Commented [A1]: 

Things I have to improve

I consider that I have many things to learn, but the most important thing have to work on, is how
to use puppets without being afraid of using them. In addition, I need to improve the transitions of
the activities, as well as, how to make my students work quieter as sometimes I am full of energy
and I don´t realize that my students are shouting with me. Commented [A2]: We do influence the group`s mood.

Thinking Inward

I personally believe that this experience is important for our degree, because not only we need to
be able to teach to students of all ages, but also, because this experience is like putting all the
theories we have learnt during the teaching course in practice.

As far as my experience is concerned, I could learn how the Total physical response proposed by
James Asher works. Moreover, I could work on the multiples intelligences proposed by Gardner, I
could learn that students learn in different ways and that our classes should be prepared for
students to learn in different ways.

At the beginning of the practicum I felt nervous, asking myself if I would be able to manage 25
students or even If they would like the class and follow my orders.

After the first class, I could relax and enjoy the classes and students reacted in a more natural way.

Thinking outward.
In my opinion, students should start learning English from kindergarten as I consider that it is the
best age to learn a language, as they learn it in the same way they learn their mother tongue. In
Villegas, students do not have the opportunity to learn English in a Natural way until they go 4 th
grade of primary school. Something that I consider that it is too late.

After experiencing this moment, I believe that before getting their degree, English teachers should
be exposed to teach kindergarten, because they can learn a lot about methodologies, strategies
and management that can be applied to primary or even secondary school.

To conclude, this experience was enriching for me and for students. I will put everything I have
learnt into practice and I will continue teaching kindergarten because I loved working with little
children. Commented [A3]: Great, Celes!
