DEP 31.38.01.31 Gen, SHOP AND FIELD FABRICATION OF PIPING dated February 2011, is
adopted for the Clean Fuels Project (CFP) subject to the modification noted in this project
variation. This PV (Project Variation) shall be included, as a requirement, wherever DEP
31.38.01.31 Gen is referenced in any other project documents, including all DEPs.

In general, the requirements stated in this PV have precedence over, and supersede those in
the Shell DEPs. Any discrepancy between this PV and other Clean Fuels Project documents
shall be brought to the attention of the Company for review and direction.

References in DEP 31.38.01.31 Gen to other Design and Engineering Practices (specifications,
guidelines, etc.) shall be amended, superseded, or otherwise revised by the associated PV of a
given DEP, where available.

Modify 9th paragraph of clause 3.3 as follows

3.3 ASSEMBLY OF PIPING COMPONENTS
Radial grooves or scratches on flange faces exceeding limits specified in ASME B16.5,
Table 3 are not allowed. Re facing will require Principal's approval. Any refacing that
would reduce the flange thickness to less than the minimum thickness allowed by the
relevant code or standard is not allowed. Edge thickness of flanges shall be checked
after re facing
Modify “h” paragraph of clause 3.4.2 as follows
3.4.2 ASSEMBLY OF PIPING COMPONENTS
h) In addition to the mechanical tests for PQR validation, metallurgical tests also are
required on an intermetallic phase count. The PQR is acceptable when the content of
sigma phase does not exceed 0.5%, while the total of all intermetallic phases does not
exceed more than 1.0%. Hardness requirement specified in NACE MR 0175/ISO 15156
Part 3 shall be applied. A cross section of the weld metal, HAZ and base metal shall be
examined as part of the welding procedure qualification. The microstructure shall be
suitably etched and examined at ×400 magnification and shall have grain boundaries
with no continuous precipitates. Intermetallic phases, nitrides and carbides shall not
exceed 1.0 % in total. The sigma phase shall not exceed 0.5 %.

Add new paragraph at the end of clause 3.6 as follows

3.6 ASSEMBLY OF PIPING COMPONENTS
In order to maintain traceability for items that are modified, i.e. pipe that is cut in length,
information shall be transferred to the modified pieces. Necessary information shall
consist of, but not limited to, heat number, material manufacture standard (i.e. ASTM,
API, BS), and color coding.

Modify 2nd paragraph of clause 4.2.6 as follows

4.2.6 ASSEMBLY OF PIPING COMPONENTS

The Ferrite Number of the deposited weld metal of all austenitic stainless steel shop and
field welds shall be in the range 4 FN 3 FN to 8 FN. For (super) duplex stainless steel
the FN shall be in the range of 40% 60% for parent metal and HAZ, and in the range for
30% 60% for the weld metal.
