Acronyms and Abbreviations used in

Thermoelectric Power Plants
Issued 14.09.2017 Rev. 1

Useful Document

1. Object

This is a collection of acronyms and abbreviations in common use in the Thermoelectric Power Plant
industry and their associated equipment, devices and utilities. It was compiled in order to assist readers
and designers in identifying acronyms and abbreviations applied in contract and engineering terms,
economic evaluation and software that appear in printed and electronic information.

2. Scope

An acronym is a pronounceable word formed from each of the first letters of a descriptive phrase or by
combining the initial letters or parts of words from the phrase. An acronym is actually a type of
abbreviation. This collection contains acronyms and abbreviations but it makes no distinction between
them.
Most of the companies involved in the field of Electric Power Generation use acronyms and
abbreviations in formal communication and in contract and technical documents.
Also, the acronyms and abbreviations included here are widely used in related software and simulation
programs.
Note that the present compilation is descriptive rather than prescriptive. No one abbreviation is
recommended to the exclusion of another because the same abbreviation may with equal validity apply
to two or more terms.
