PLANNING FOR SIEMENS PLC BENCHMARK

Siemens Option 1: STANDARD PLC + MODULAR SAFETY SYSTEM

 More functionality and flexibility through freely configurable safety logic

 Suitable for all safety applications because of its compliance with the highest safety
requirements in production automation (EN ISO 13849-1 or SIL 3 according to
IEC 62061)
 Modular hardware configuration
 Parameterization by means of software instead of wiring
 Safety technology and safety-related processing are to be separated from the superior
field bus level or control in a targeted manner
NOT Recommend because
 Use for medium and small quantity structures of safe slaves
 Standard and safety automation divide into two system → wiring more and large foot
print in the cabinet
 When the PLC is not Fail-Safe PLC (We have had 2 Fail-Safe PLC already)
 Mornitoring is needed for diagnostic functions (Increase cost)
 Difficult migration from PROFIBUS to PROFINET (MSS has Profibus Interface only)
Siemens Option 2: FAIL-SAFE PLC + INTERGRATED SAFETY IO
(PROFISAFE-INTERFACE)
 Satisfy maximum safety requirements and comply with the relevant standards:
EN 954-1 up to Cat. 4, IEC 62061 up to SIL 3 and EN ISO 13849-1 up to PL e.
 More Flexibility. The logic of the safety functions is software-based rather than hard-
wired
 Expandable with Fail-Safe SIMATIC S7- 300/1500/ET 200MP IO modules…
 Cost reduction. Standard and safety automation intergrated in one controller → reduce
wiring and footprint
 Better system integration. One PROFIBUS or PROFINET transmitting medium for
standard and safety communication to SIL 3/Cat. 4 (PROFISAFE)
 Early fault detection thanks to better diagnostic functions
 Easy migration from PROFIBUS to PROFINET

2.1. New S7-1500 fail-safe PLC

 The fail-safe SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs are equipped with a large program and data
memory for complex standard and fail-safe applications.
 High-cost for a benchmarking system
2.2. Use the current S7-315 fail-safe PLC

CPU 315F-2 PN/DP for failsafe plants with medium to high requirements on the program scope
and distributed configuration using PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET IO; these can be
implemented as distributed intelligence in Component Based Automation (CBA) on
PROFINET

The safety is not intergrated without F-Module.

 The major difference between fail-safe modules and standard ET 200 modules is that
fail-safe modules have a two-channel internal design. Both integrated processors monitor
each other and automatically test the input and output wiring, and place the F-module in a
safe state in the event of a fault.
 The fail-safe controller communicates with the fail-safe module via the PROFIsafe
safety-related bus profile.
 Fail-safe power modules supply load voltage to the potential group and safety shut down
the load voltage for standard output modules.
 Fail-safe digital input modules record the signal states of safety-related sensors (e.g.
emergency stop pushbutton) and send corresponding safety message frames to the fail-safe
controller.
 Fail-safe digital output modules are suitable for switching processes with short-circuit
monitoring up to the actuator.
