2 Hytran License
2.1 Hytran Full Evaluation Mode
The Hytran software CD is shipped in the Full Evaluation Mode which has an expiry
date of 30 days from the date of first use together with a limited number of
executions allowed. When the number of executions has expired, Hytran reverts to
the Demo Mode. To continue the evaluation for the full thirty days, the user must
register Hytran before further runs can be made. (Refer to Section 3 for the
registration procedure.)
2.2 Hytran Demo Mode
In the Demo Mode, Hytran has the full drawing and editing functions but will only
process an analysis for 10 transient seconds.
2.3 Hytran Full Licnese
After purchasing the Full License, Hytran is unlocked by registration codes
provided by Hytran Solutions. Only one computer has an active authorized Hytran
License at any one time. (Refer to Section 3 for the registration procedure.)

3 Registration for FULL Hytran License or to Extend Evaluation

To obtain the Registration Codes to unlock the Full Hytran License or to continue
evaluation, click on the Register Codes button in the dialog box which appears at
the beginning. This opens up a Registration Dialog box. The Registration Dialog
box may be opened at any time by closing all the Hytran windows and selecting the
menu item Security Options/Full Register as Full License. A dialog will appear

4 Running the HYTRAN program

Read and print the Hytran Quickstart (Adobe pdf) guide from the CD to quickly
master the drawing and editing functions. Also print the QuickGuide (Adobe pdf)
for a summary of the toolbar functions. From the Windows start menu, select

Start\Programs\Hytran Solutions\Hytran Program

After a pipeline has been drawn and checked, run the analysis by selecting the
icon.

5 Rerun Data Files in Demo Mode

To demonstrate the capabilities of Hytran, a set of pre-run case study files have
been included. The files are found on the CD in the Water Hammer Workshop
Notes\Case Study HGL & PIP folder. (For convenience these may be copied onto the
hard drive in the same folder as the Hytran Program.) These files are the result of
the runs with the same file names found in the Examples Workshop Data folder
installed during the setup.

To access these files, run the Hytran program (see note 3).

1 Open a file from the File/Open menu from the Hytran Solutions\Examples Workshop
Data
A drawing of the pipeline will be drawn. Although this step is optional, it gives
the opportunity of viewing the pipeline to be analyzed.

2 Normally to analyze the pipeline, the button is pressed. This will only run for
10 transient seconds in the Demo Mode.

To view a simulation of the real time transients, select Plot Hgl/Re-run

Transients View from the menu. A dialog will appear in which the corresponding file
can be selected from the Case Study HGL & PIP folder. These files are the actual
output of the initial simulation.

3 Some of the case studies are grouped together as a solution. By working through
a case study, the effect of different transient control strategies can be
evaluated. For example,
File name Description
6_1_1pmResvFailChek Pump failure
6_1_2pmResvFailChek_Airv Pump failure with air valve
6_1_3pmResvFailChek_Airc Pump failure with air chamber
6_1_4pmResvFailChek_Disc Pump failure with one way discharge tank
6_1_5pmResvFailChek_Disc_Disc Pump failure with 2/one way discharge tanks
6_1_6pmResvFailChek_Chek Pump failure with check valve
6_1_7pmResvFailChek_Dics_Chek Pump failure with discharge tank and check valve

A description of the case studies can be found on the Water Hammer Workshop notes
on the CD.
