STUDENT NURSE’S PLAN OF ACTIVITIES AT DELIVERY ROOM
At the end of 8 hours’ duty, I would be able to:
1. Attend the preconference before the start of duty.
2. Establish rapport and interview the patient in order to gather data for Case study. 3. Monitor and assess vital signs, progress of labor and other complains of the pt. 4. Assess fundal level, position and presentation of the fetus. 5. Locate and monitor fetal heart tone. 6. Observe dilatation and effacement of the cervix. 7. Instruct the mother to rest and sleep as desired during labor. 8. Assist the mother in positioning and ambulation if needed. 9. Perform task of a handle according to EINC; Perform perineal care Encourage mother to push as desired Drape the linen over the mother’s abdomen Assist the obstetrician with procedures Call out time of birth and gender of the newborn. Call out time of placenta delivery. 10. Perform task of a Cord care by following the EINC checklist; Thorough drying of the newborn in 30 seconds Properly timed cord clamping and cutting (When pulsation stops) Get the anthropometric measurement of the newborn. 11. Document the information needed in the whiteboard as a task of being the circulating nurse. 12. Thoroughly perform physical assessment and observation. 13. Maintain sterility inside the OR-DR theater. 14. Attend the post conference after the 8 hours’ duty.
