GROUP LEARNING EXPERIENCE PLANNING SHEET

Student Name: Amanpreet Jassal Course Code: ECS 4070

Age Group: Kindergartens Date: November 2, 2017

Learning Experience: Kind and Unkind Images

Programming Purpose: Throughout the day I notice a lot of kind behaviors such as hugging, high 5s, and helping.
The children do a really good job at cheering each other on and helping each other. Unfortunately, on a few
different occasions Ive also noticed children kicking down a friends toy, yelling, pushing and not listening. I would
like to incorporate this activity in order to promote more positive and kind behavior. Most of the children have
mastered kind behavior so they can definitely be a positive role model to others.

Objective:

Children will strengthen cognition in classifying (4.10 in the elect document) as they sort the pictures into two
groups (kind and unkind).
Children will enhance emotional development in self-concept (2.1 in the elect document) as they develop
responsibilities for themselves such as raising their hand when they talk, sharing and other kind behaviors. Children
will also identify what they can do and what they have yet to learn (sometimes I do not share but I am going to
practice sharing during recess).
Children will strengthen cognition in problem solving (4.2 in the elect document) as we identify problems (the
unkind images) and then brainstorming solutions and outcomes as a group.

Materials:

18 images, 9 kind and 9 unkind

Opening (Introduction): As the children begin to finish up their writing I will take a group of 3 children to the side
and implement this activity with them. Today we will be focusing on kind and unkind actions. Can anyone tell me a
time when someone was kind to you? Unkind? How did it feel? Seems as if everyone felt upset when they were
treated unkindly. We have to remember to not hurt our friends feelings and be kind!

Body (Content)

1. We will start off by playing a matching, memory game. I will turn the cards over and each child will get a
turn picking a card. If the first card they pick is an unkind action, their goal is to pick another card that is
also unkind. If it matches they get to keep the cards. If it doesnt, it will be the next childs turn.
2. I will go first to model to the children.
3. As we play, each card will be discussed. Using the questioning technique I will ask the children what they
think the action is and if its kind or unkind. For example, the picture with the two children playing with a
ball is a kind action.
4. I will also challenge the children. Find a way you can overcome or encourage this particular action. If
another child is watching I can ask them if they would like to play.

Closing (Ending): Okay so what did we learn today? We learned that kind actions make us happy and unkind actions
makes us sad. It is important we are kind to our friends.

Transition: You guys can go pick a Montessori and play. I will be calling the next group over shortly.
