    Northern Mindanao (Filipino: Hilagang Kamindanawan, Cebuano: Amihang


    Mindanao) is an administrative region in the Philippines, designated as Region X.
    It comprises five provinces: Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte,
    Bukidnon and Misamis Occidental and two cities classified as highly urbanized, all
    occupying the north-central part of Mindanao island, and the island-province of
    Camiguin. The regional center is Cagayan de Oro. Lanao del Norte was transferred
    to Northern Mindanao from Region XII (then called Central Mindanao) by virtue of
    Executive Order No. 36 in September 2001.

    Cagayan de Oro) is a first class highly
    urbanized city and the capital of the
    province of Misamis Oriental. It is a
    chartered city where governance is
    independent and separate from Misamis
    Oriental. It also serves as the regional
    center and business hub of Northern
    Mindanao (Region X), and part of the
    growing Metropolitan Cagayan de Oro
    area, which includes the city of El
    Salvador, towns of Opol, Alubijid, Laguindingan, Gitagum at the western side, and towns of
    Tagoloan, Villanueva, Jasaan, Claveria at the eastern side.

    The City of Cagayan de Oro is located along the north central coast of Mindanao island facing
    Macajalar Bay and is bordered by the municipalities of Opol to the west; Tagoloan to the east,
    and the provinces of Bukidnon and Lanao del Norte to the south of the city. According to the
    2015 census, the city has a population of 675,950, making it the 10th most populous city in the
    Philippines.

    Cagayan de Oro is also famous for its whitewater rafting or kayaking adventures, one of the
    tourism activities being promoted along the Cagayan de Oro River.

    Ozamiz is close to Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte provinces, while across the
    bay is Lanao del Norte. It is 45-minute drive from Oroquieta City, 30 mins drive from Tangub
    City, 20 mins drive from Tudela, less than 2 hrs drive from Pagadian City, 3 hrs drive from
    Dipolog City, Dapitan city and 4 hrs drive to Cagayan de Oro City. Lanao del Norte is only a
    20 mins ferry ride across Panguil Bay. Ozamiz city is 52 kilometres (32 mi) from Maria Cristina
    Falls, the main source of hydroelectric power in Mindanao.

    Iligan, officially the City of Iligan


    or simply Iligan City (Cebuano:
    Dakbayan sa Iligan; Filipino:
    Lungsod ng Iligan) is a highly
    urbanized city in the Northern
    Mindanao region, Philippines. It
    is geographically within the
    province of Lanao del Norte but
    administered independently from
    the province. It was once part of
    Central Mindanao (Region 12)
    until the province was moved
    under Northern Mindanao (Region 10) in 2001. Iligan has a total land area of 813.37 square
    kilometres (314.04 sq mi), making it one of the 10 largest cities in the Philippines in terms of
    land area. It had a population of 342,618 inhabitants in the 2015 census.
