ARISHTAMS

DOSAGE : Adults: 30 ml. tid or 45 ml bid after food.

Children : Half of the dosage of adults.

CHOORNAMS (Powders)

These are finely powdered raw materials. This consists of two groups - for
internal usage and for external application. For internal usage they can be
used with Hot water or any other liquids as prescribed.

DOSAGE :
10-15 g per day in divided doses, half the quantity for children or as advised
by the Physician. For external usage they can be used as a paste after
mixing with prescribed liquids.

TABLETS

Medicines prepared in the form of Tablets or Pills are known as Gulika. These
are made by finely powdered, grinded raw materials to a soft paste with the
prescribed fluids and is made into pills or tablets. As a part of the conversion
of the Generic products into more convenient forms these are now getting
gradually converted into machine made tablets.

KASHAYAMS

This is the water extraction of active principles of Medicinal plants. Cleaned,

disintegrated raw materials are boiled with water and is reduced.

DOSAGE :
Mix 15 ml Kashayam in 45 - 60 ml boiled and cooled water, use two times
daily, preferably in empty stomach or before food. Half the quantity for
children.

KASHAYA CHOORNAMS

Kashaya Choornams are disintegrated

(coarsely powdered) combination of raw drugs. These are meant for making
decoctions.
DOSAGE :
50 g. coarse powder is to be boiled with 800 ml of water and reduced to 200
ml. After filtering, it is again reduced to 100 ml. Use 100 ml and taken 50 ml
twice daily in empty stomach or as advised by the Physician.

LEHYAMS

Lehyams are semisolid Malt/Jam like preparation of drugs, prepared by

adding jaggery or sugar and boiled with the prescribed liquid till the correct
constituency is obtained. Then spices and Ghee are added and stirred well.
After cooling honey is also added. This means preserving the water extract of
medicines in Sugar media.

DOSAGE :
10-15 g twice daily or as advised by the physician. Half the quantity for
children.

OILS (External Application)

These are medicated oils. Decoction, juices, milk etc. are added m ails like
Gingelly oil, coconut oil or castor oil and is heated with powdered and ground
raw drugs, until the water content evaporates completely. Through this
process the active principles are preserved in Oil medium.
THAILAM - Base Gingelly oil; KERAM - Base Coconut oil.

DOSAGE :
Apply the oils over the body anal take bath in Luke warm water after half an
hour. For hair Oil also, the procedure is same, or as directed by the Physician.
