INTRODUCTION

One way of nurturing the knowledge of the students regarding the challenges of the real world is

to let them experience the real-case scenario themselves. The perfect way is to let them experience it

through the on-the Job Training (OJT).

Choosing the right company plays a crucial part in determining the success of the student. As the

rumors come that a part of the Panpacific University North Philippines was under construction, I

inquired if OJT is available at the University. As it was confirmed by the dean, Engr. Erlinda M. La

Guardia, I immediately applied and started with the training in the University on April 2016.

At first, it was confusing for me because it was too hard to adjust from being a student to a

worker. As my knowledge is not enough to make an output, Engr. La Guardia helped us a lot in

analyzing some elements in surveying. I also learned how to improve my skills in AutoCad by the help

of my colleagues.

When my training comes into conclusion, I was really glad and thankful at the same time. I

learned a lot of things and I have accumulated a lot of knowledge by the help of my co-workers and

Engr. La Guardia.

This report paper contains experiences on my training at PUNP. It also contains my daily journal

and information about activities I have done during my training. I hope that through this paper, I can

share my thoughts and ideas about the company and experiences as a trainee.

COMPANY ORGANIZATION HISTORY

Panpacific University North Philippines (PUNP), formerly Pangasinan Colleges of Science and

Technology (PCST) was incorporated on August 26, 1992 to provide courses in all levels of education.

The Founder, Chairman of the Board of Regents and the first President Dr. Romeo T. Padilla saw the

need of a quality school for students who are in search of academic excellence. PUNP started its

operation in 1993 occupying a 3-storey building in McArthur Highway in Urdaneta, Pangasinan. It was

authorized to offer degree programs in Pharmacy, Nursing, Electrical Technology, Criminology,

Secretarial Administration and Mechanical Technology. In 1994, additional courses were offered such

as Computer Science, Education, Marine Transportation, and Electronics Technology. In 1996, the

following courses were added: Master of Arts in Education, Master in Public Administration, Bachelor

8
of Science in Commerce and Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management. With eleven

(11) degree courses, and eight (8) short-term technical courses, PUNP in 1996 started to build its own

3-storey structure in its current location in San Vicente, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan. A Mock Boat was

added in 1997 as a laboratory and classroom for Maritime students. Consequently, the Mock Boat

became a significant landmark up to this day. The Events Complex was also added in 1998. Other

classroom buildings were added starting 1999 to cater to the needs of the growing population. Today,

PUNP has Science Building, Padilla Building and Academic Building. It has an Olympic-size swimming

pool, a food court, modern laboratories and classrooms. The Basic Education Department offered

Special Science High School Curriculum in 1999 with thirteen (13) First Year students. Pre-Elementary

and Elementary (Grades I-VI) were offered in 2003. In November 2007, the PCST was elevated to a

University Status by virtue of CHED en banc Resolution No. 839-2007. PCST adapted and changed its

name into Panpacific University North Philippines with its vision to become a University of Choice in

the Panpacific Rim. Upgrades are underway in order to make PUNP comparable to world-class

universities.

Summary of OJT experiences and other functions performed.

Panpacific University North Philippines is my home for the past 4 years. I thought I have all the

knowledge about the physical plant, but I am wrong. Certain places like the roof top, power rooms,

and the stairs are still a secret for me. By the help of this OJT program, I was able to further study the

University physically. During its renovation, I was able to use a jackhammer on removing the tiles. I

was able to learn about the handling of the removed materials and its recycling stages. I experienced

to use different basic instruments and able to make a navigation console box for the Maritime.

Different techniques on the installations of pipes and their respective uses. And most of all, the

chance to hold the master plan of the university. I have been given a chance to revise the old master

plan with respect to the renovations. This OJT is a great experience for me. Yes, it is not much, but

better than nothing.

Issues and concerns about the company noted during the training.

The only concern that I have encountered was the lack of equipment in performing our survey. It

took us too long in locating points, and make it hard for us in determining them.

Recommendation for continuous improvement of the company and the OJT program.

As my concern, the company must acquire full attention in the equipment that are needed to

help OJTs. Although we learned a lot during our training, I suggest that the company should provide

more diversity on the activities for the next trainees.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

April 19, 2016 (Tuesday)

I installed AutoCAD on the laptops of the new trainees. They were instructed to propose an oval.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

15
April 20, 2016 (Wednesday)

The new trainees started the day by measuring the ovals track(200 meters) still. On this day, I

taught them on how to plot it in the site development plan and I helped them in illustrating the 200

meter-course.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

April 21, 2016 (Thursday)

Early in the morning, we continued bench marking the long track. Until we borrowed a

measuring device from Engr. Brian Quero. It helped us a lot because we are not using the tape

measure anymore. The device was digital so it is easier to take details in measure the preferred track.

For the rest of the day, we stayed in the field continuing the proposed oval track.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

April 22, 2016 (Friday)

On this day, we finished the long track and we started plotting it in AutoCad. But it went difficult

for us because we were still exploring the application, so we were plotting the tracks for the rest of

the afternoon.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

16
April 25, 2016 (Monday)

We begin the day in staying in the office doing AutoCad. We started to make an AutoCad file of

the site development plan because we were plotting the tracks in it afterwards. It takes us a while

before realizing that the old site development plan went wrong. It wasnt not plotted as it was placed

to be. After the break, we returned in front of the Academic Building and observed what the

designated area of the buildings was in the plan. We were doing it in the rest of the day.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

April 26, 2016 (Tuesday)

In the morning, I taught the three some hacks of AutoCAD for them to do it easier and faster.

After the break, we started plotting the site development plan again. But today, it is easier for us to

do it.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

April 28, 2016 (Thursday)

We finished plotting the oval in the site development plan. Afterwards, Engr. La Guardia

instructed us to make an AutoCAD file of the whole university. We were doing it in the office the rest

of the day.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

17
April 28, 2016 (Thursday)

On this day, we are able to start doing floor plans of the site. I first start doing the plan of the

Academic Building while my co-trainee Billy and Argel started the plans of the Events Center and the

University Clinic.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

April 29, 2016 (Friday)

We did the same as yesterday. We stayed in the office doing floor plans.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

May 2, 2016 (Monday)

At morning we continue doing the Floor Plan for Academic Building while at the afternoon we

again measured the proposed ovals track(200 METERS) for the plan revisions.

Engr. Erlinda M. La Guardia

May 3, 2016 (Tuesday)
