CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

Once again it is that time of year we celebrate
Catholic education in our local parish, in the diocese of
La Crosse and throughout our entire country. Catholic
Schools Week is a time to showcase our school and our
children, but our Catholic school is something we can
be proud of all year. It is something we all should pay
close attention to, as the education of our children is
the primary mission of our parish. So whether you
have a child or grandchild in school or not, you are
supporting our Catholic school and your input is important. I think it is good to occasionally look at what
it is that makes this such an important mission in the
Catholic Church.
Any school can provide quality education in
the sciences, mathematics and languages. What is offered over and above this is what sets a particular
school apart. For Catholic schools, it is our ability not
only to witness Christian values, but to have this as
part of the curriculum. Daily religion classes alongside
the opportunity to attend Mass during the week are
invaluable in the faith formation of our children as
they develop into the Christian leaders of tomorrow.
If Catholic education is to continue to be a
strong influence in our community, we as Catholics
have to stand up for our beliefs. Yes, it is a sacrifice to
place your children in a Catholic school, especially in
difficult economic times. However, it is a sacrifice that
I believe is blessed over the years. The top priority
each year is future enrollment, as this is the primary
factor that will ensure Catholic education will remain
here in Prairie du Chien. In the coming weeks, we will
hold registration for next years classes. On Wednesday evening we will be celebrating family night with
activities showcasing many of the talents of our children. There will be a book fair and we will be serving
burgers and fries, so bring the family for dinner. (Freewill offering) If you are parents of pre-school or grade
school children come and see what Prairie Catholic
Schools can offer. It truly is your school. Also, if you
have not had a chance to see the new gymnasium,
please make sure you check it out.
God bless
Fr. Jim

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Following is a note from our local Knight of Columbus
Grand Knight. The Knights of Columbus is an international fraternal mens service organization that is lived
through local parish centered councils. Please look over
the following, and consider an invitation for all men over
19 years of age to join this worthwhile organization.
Dynamic Catholic, Be Bold. Be Catholic and The Best
version of Yourself are all trademarks of the Dynamic Catholic Institute. Similarly, the Knight of Columbus members
strive to live up to the afore mentioned values while building the Domestic Church through the family. Male parishioners over the age of 19 are asked to consider joining the
Knights and become a part of a charity and service organization. Living these values help us to discover what it
means to be a father in the family and in the
church. While the core of the Knights is the men in the
organization, there are activities and opportunities for
women and youth as well. On the weekend of Feb 11 and
12, we will have cards of interest available at all Masses.
We ask that all men over the age of 19, whether married
or single, consider filling out a card and consider joining
this organization in service to your faith and families.
Thank you and God bless
John Chaffee, Grand Knight
