The document provides installation instructions for retrofitting a side view camera system to BMW vehicles. It details the parts, installation process, and gives operation instructions for the camera.

The installation instructions specify that cables and lines should not be kinked or damaged during installation. Additional cables must be secured with cable ties. If pin chambers are occupied, bridges or double crimps must be used. The camera cannot be shown being installed for every vehicle variant, but the process is the same.

Installation requires the use of special tool 00 9 310, which are installation wedges.

Installation time
The installation time is approx. 3.0 to 3.5 hours. This may vary depending on the condition of the car and
the equipment in it. If a rear-view camera is already installed, the installation time will be about 1.0 hours less.
Important information
These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by
authorised BMW service companies.
In any event, the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with
the appropriate specialist knowledge.
All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals and work
instructions, in a rational order, using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety
regulations.
In the event of any installation or function problems, restrict the troubleshooting session to about
0.5 hours for mechanical work or 1 hour for electrical work.
In order to reduce costs and avoid any additional expense, send a query immediately to the Technical Parts Support
via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP).
Specify the following information:
- Chassis number
- Part number of the retrofit kit
- A precise description of the problem
- Work steps already carried out
Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are made by ASAP!
Pictograms
Denotes instructions that draw your attention to dangers.

Installation information
Due to the large number of bumper trims, the installation of the side-view camera cannot be shown in detail for
every equipment variant. The installation work is to be carried out in the same way.
Ensure that the cables and/or lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. The costs thereby
incurred will not be reimbursed by BMW AG.
Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.
If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps or twin-lead terminals must be used.
All pictures show LHD cars; proceed accordingly on RHD cars.
In most cases, after installation of the retrofit, repairs or a software update of the car, an image
misalignment appears on the Control Display. In order to correct the picture offset the LVDS
converter Z must be initialised.
The initialisation is to be carried out as detailed in the separate initialisation
instructions 01 29 0 432 055.
Ordering instructions
The following parts are not supplied in the Side View retrofit kit and must be ordered separately
(see EPC for part number and details).
- Interface extras kit
- LVDS converter extras kit
If a rear-view camera (special accessory) has already been fitted to the car, the LVDS converter extras kit is not
required.

13. Concluding work and coding

This retrofit system does not require coding.
- Connect the battery
- Conduct a brief test
In most cases, after installation of the retrofit, repairs or a software update of the car, an image
misalignment appears on the Control Display. In order to correct the picture offset the LVDS
converter Z must be initialised.
The initialisation is to be carried out as detailed in the separate initialisation
instructions 01 29 0 432 055.
- Re-fit the car components as required

Align Side View B horizontally to the cars axis by carefully

bending the holder.

B
070 0050 Z

Check the function of the Side View camera as follows:

- Switch on the ignition
- Press button L; an image should appear on the control display
- Press button L again; the control display should switch over
- At speeds over about 30 km/h (20 mph) or after travelling a distance of approx. 250 m, the control display should
switch over automatically

15. Side View operation

The Side View camera covers the area to the left and right in front of your car. The area covered by the camera is
shown on the control display. This system helps you when emerging from driveways and side-streets by displaying
the traffic in both directions on the road you are turning onto.

It takes a certain amount of time to get used to driving with a visual display. Careful driving is essential even
when using Side View. Side View cannot replace your personal ability to judge obstacles.
For safety reasons, Side View cannot be switched
on when the car is travelling at speeds in excess of
30 km/h (about 20 mph). If the car exceeds this speed,
it will switch off automatically.
Switching on Side View

- Press the button (1)

Switching off Side View
- Press the button (1) again
070 0052 Z

At a speed of over approx. 30 km/h or after a

distance of approx. 250 m, Side View will cut
out automatically.

The camera lens may get dirty in adverse weather conditions such as rain, mud and snow, leading to the quality
of the displayed image deteriorating.
Use a soft cloth for cleaning the camera lens and avoid using abrasive or chemical cleaning agents.
