Why Violence in Entertainment,

Is Good
By Joe, Deanna, Rhys, Almu and Tom

Playing violent video games is no more likely to be

damaging to young childrens behavior than those
considered harmless, an Oxford University study
suggests.

(J Bingham. 2015)

Violence is a mechanic in most videogames, take for example:

Videogames:
Doom Extreme Violence Able to commit crime with no
consequence.
Crash Bandicoot Comedic Violence Violence is a game
mechanic which has been watered down into something
non-toxic for younger audiences .

Its Managed

Now Sid, don't

you blame the
movies. Movies
don't create
psychos. Movies
make psychos
more creative!
(Scream 1996)

We hypothesized if people have aggressive

traits to begin with they will process violent
media in a very different way as compared to
non-aggressive people - a theory supported
by these findings.
(Dr A Klien. 2014)

Schindler's
List and Saving Private
Ryan are two R-rated
films that educators have
found helpful to teaching
aspects of World War II,
O'Neil says.
(D Tang. 2011)

"Saving Private Ryan" says things about war that are as

complex and difficult as any essayist could possibly
express, and does it with broad, strong images, with
violence, with profanity, with action, with
camaraderie.
(R Ebert. 1988)

The bottom line is that for violent movies and video

games, we just do not know the relationship
between viewing or playing and aggression in the
real world. Research to date does not inform us.
(Massachusetts General Hospital. 2012)

There is no link Between Violence in Entertainment,

And Violence in People.
There have been multiple studies into the correlation between
violent traits in people, developing due to violent medias, a large
majority of which have been debunk and proven false.
The only way violent media could influence people is by giving
people career ideas, such as people performing in sport.
The argument has gone on for so long, and almost all of the time
the argument has favoured the side of there is no correlation.

Violent Behaviour in Sport is never put there,

Unintentionally
In Roman Times the first form of violent human expression,
was still controlled, despite the nature of the activity.
Sports like Martial Arts, Rugby/American Football and Ice
Hockey embrace violence as part of the game, but is
managed so it never gets out of hand.
Violence is taken into consideration when the sport is
created, that is why we have Rules.

I grew up as a hardcore competitive athlete. I

learned to cultivate perseverance to run the
extra mile at full speed, teamwork to pass the
ball, and a disciplined work ethic to challenge
myself to the next level.
(R S Yanklowitz. 2013)

Solving a problem where there is no problem

It was one of the hallmark proposals of Clintons Senate era, that
selling violent games to the underage should be criminalized.
Together with Senator Lieberman, the two crafted the Family
Entertainment Protection Act, this was never made law.
She was trying to find a solution for a problem that never really
existed, this idea that games are some kind of dark influence over
an entire generation of children.

Family Entertainment Protection Act

A prohibition on selling games to minors, where retailers could be heavily
fined for selling M or AO games to those under 17
An independent analysis of the ESRBs ratings system to figure out if it was
actually accurate
Authority for the FTC to investigate misleading game ratings
Authority for consumers to register complaints with the FTC for misleading
game ratings
An audit of retailers including possible secret shoppers to see if underage
kids can buy M or AO games from stores

Over 150 million Americans (and 71% of teens) play

video games. There have been 71 mass shootings
between 1982 and Aug. 2015, seven of which (9.8%)
involved shooters age 18 or younger.
(Videogames.Procon. 2016)

The Major Facts

Violence is managed whenever it is an issue.
Its is heathy for people to have expression, rather than keep it all to themselves.
This argument has been disproven multiple times, and still is being disproven with little
effort.
There is no correlation between the mental state of people performing acts of Human
Atrocities and violent medias effecting them.

Violence is an attribute in every single human

being, it exists and is controlled to a healthy
degree by the large majority of the population.
