    Storyboard Instructions

    Day 1: Team Name


    Create a team name and write it at the top of your
    storyboard.

    Each time you learn a new concept, create a design or test


    a design you will be record it on your storyboard.

    Storyboard: Heat
    and Temperature

    Add a definition for


    heat and a
    definition for
    temperature to your
    storyboard.

    Definitions: Heat
    Heat is the transfer of thermal energy.
    Atoms and molecules have kinetic energy, which create
    thermal energy. The amount of thermal energy something
    has is the sum of the kinetic energy of all of the
    particles. Thats why a bathtub of water has more thermal
    energy than a sink of water when the water is the same
    temperature.
    Thermal energy can be transferred from one place to
    another when there is a temperature difference.

    Definitions: Temperature
    Temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of the
    particles in a substance.
    We call a high average kinetic energy hot and a low
    average kinetic energy cold.

    Definitions: Conduction
    Conduction is the way thermal energy transfer from one
    substance to another by direct contact.
    It can be between solids, or between a solid and a fluid.
    Kinetic energy is transferred as the higher temperature
    atoms or molecules vibrate and collide with cooler atoms
    or molecules, warming them up and increasing their kinetic
    energy.

    Definitions: Convection and Radiation


    Convection occurs when fluids (gases or liquids) sink or rise
    because of differences in density. Warmer fluids are less
    dense than colder ones, because the particles in a warmer
    fluid are more spread out. Therefore, cooler fluids sink
    (more dense) and warmer fluids rise (less dense).

    Radiation is the transfer of energy in the form of


    electromagnetic waves. Visible light and infrared light are
    both types of radiation that transfer heat.

    Heat Conductor: A material that allows heat transfer to


    occur quickly/easily.

    day the soda was warm! What

    as well as reasoning for
    why each material was
    used.

    Testing

    Record the results from


    your final test in your
    storyboard, along with the
    cost of your final design.

    *If your design changed


    from your redesign
    picture, include a drawing
    of what was actually
    tested.
