Payangan Beach, Natural Hidden Beach in Jember


Payangan becah is lies on a cluster of Indonesian Ocean with natural beautiful scenery, is part of three
beaches in coastal Watu Ulo areas. Payangan has black sand with some grass growing on the edge of the
beach. In the midst of the beach you can find gorgeous stones and savanna on the southern side as well as
the parking of fishing boats of Payangan fishermen that lined up neatly. This beach has one island, three
hills, and four beaches. This a hidden beach that very beautiful. Situated in Payangan hamlet, Sumberejo
village, Ambulu district, Jember regency of East Java.

The activities you can do at the beach this is a coastal fishing, swimming and enjoying grilled fish which
will be offer of some vendors around the beach with a variety of marine fish and playgrounds for the
visitors. There is also a center sale of fresh fish to bring home. You can also enjoy the beautiful sunset and
sunrise moment in Payangan beach. You can visit this beach with your friends or families to explore your
travel.

The beach can be reached by using a two or four-wheeled vehicles. For the travel routes, you can go from
the town of Jember towards Ambulu. After reaching Ambulu intersection, you can follow the way
instructions to Watu Ulo then you will arrive at Payangan Beach.

Payangan Beach, Exotica Beach in Jember

Payangan beach Jember become one of the favorite tourist destination in Jember and surrounding
communities. Payangan beach has exotic natural scenery. Visitors are spoiled with a cluster of waves with
black sand beach. While to enjoy the blue sea, visitors can climb to the top of hill, the hill Samboja and
Kambing Hill with a height of one hundred meters. From the top of hill, visitors can take photos with the
background of the Indian Ocean and the expanse of grassland.
In the Eid holiday season, many visitors have come to this tourist location. Go to the tourist sites is also

Payangan Beach, Jember - East Java
Payangan beach is one of the coastal fishing village in Jember, but what I saw did not like the beach
fishermen in general tend to be dirty and smelling of fish. In the fishing village Chedi beach really clean
and no smell fishy, incredible! In fact I saw kabalikannya, a beautiful coastal area with scattered hills in
the corner of the beach and the grassy expanse of sand.
Without wasting time we immediately rushing to the shore, a condition that can surprise me to see. Black
sand clean of rubbish, just look broken - broken sea shells on the beach. A beach that will rarely we meet
for the size of a beach with vehicle access is very easy, even a car can reach it.
Our arrival was greeted by a friendly weather to enjoy and capture the moments of sunset, I was able to
enjoy the beautiful sunset at the beach Payangan.
Welcome to Jember Regency

Jember is one of the regencies located in the eastern part of the province of East Java which has great
tourism potential. Geographically it borders the Indonesian ocean in the south. Jember has beautiful views
along the beach. In the northern and eastern part of Jember there are mountain ranges where spectacular
waterfalls can be found. Jember is also famous for its plantations. Therefore many foreign tourists are
interested in the agro tourism available in Jember.
Manggisan Waterfall
Manggisan waterfall, located 35 km to the southwest of Jember, has 54 m height and produces water at
the rate of 198 liters per second. The clear and cool water splashing over the edge of a stone cliff into the
river below makes this waterfall has spectacular natural sight. This one of Jember waterfalls is often
visited by many people because its beautiful scenery around the waterfall. Some visitors can make camps
around the waterfall area. The local people sometimes provide a good place for fishing around the
waterfall area. All visitors who visit Manggisan waterfall will enjoy the beautiful scenery on the way to

Watu Ulo Beach

Ulo is one of the tourist sites which lies on the Indonesian ocean. There is beautiful scenery at this site
and it is the perfect place to enjoy the sea. It is called "Watu Ulo" by the natives because they believe that
in the past there was a snake who was becoming a spirit. After becoming a spirit, it became a stone
resembling a snake, sticking into the sea with its body lying on the land. During the Japanese occupation,
the Japanese soldiers made fortresses which were used for fortifying against the attacking enemies and
now some of the fortresses have become tourist sites. Beside the Japanese fortress, there is also a bat cave
inhabited by thousands of bats. The visitors can cross the sandy shore to get to the cave. The lonely cave
is often used for meditation by visitors. However tourists should remember that the cave is 100m in depth.

To get there, the visitors can use public transportation or hire a rental car. The journey takes
approximately 30 minutes from the downtown of Jember.
Papuma Beach

Beside Watu Ulo beach, there is Papuma beach with its white sands that make it more interesting. The
beautiful white sand is pleasure to see and to walk on. The beach is always used as the place for
sunbathing by foreign tourists. Besides its natural scenic beauty, it is also rich of animals, such as the
lizard, forest cock, various birds, wild pig, deer porcupine, scaly anteater and many others. The scenery
and atmosphere can be enjoyed more completely at a restaurant which provides Indonesian and Papuma
food, a variety of baked fish. Visitors can reach the location by public transportation or via rental car. The
journey takes approximately 30 minutes from Jember downtown.
Paseban Beach
Paseban is one of the tourism locations which lies 52 about km southwest of Jember. The visitors can
enjoy the splashing waves and the pristine white sand. Visitors also can swimm at Paseban beach because
it has calm waves. This beach is often visited by foreign and domestic tourists. The foreign visitors are
often have sunbathe here. Beside that, the visitors can do kinds of activities here, such as; swimming,
sunbathing, fishhing, etc. The people around the coastal area are often hold a rite especially for "Suro
month" and celebrate it by making a tent.

Puger Beach
Puger is a tourist site which lies 36 km southwest of Jember. This beach is famous for auctioning and
selling fish. Not only enjoy the beauty of the sea but the visitors can also see the traditional wooden ship
'prau'. They also can buy the fresh fishes from the fishermen around the beach or try to fishing at the sea,
using a canoe. It will be become an interesting activity.
Every year, the people around the coastal area celebrate the traditional rite of "Larung Sesaji. These
activities are performed in thanksgiving to God for safe passage on the sea, particularly by the Puger
fishermen. They throw away a rice cone to the sea and wish their hope. This ceremony has done once a
year.
Besides Puger Beach, there is also a beach which is more interesting called Kucur Beach. On this beach
visitors can see red monkeys if they bring fruit or food. The monkeys seem very happy to welcome them.
One of the native folk tales said that if the visitors hurt one of the monkeys, bad things will happen in
their life. To get there, the visitors can take public transportation for 30 minutes after leaving Jember.

Bandealit Beach

Bandealit is a beach resort situated in the forest area 35 km south of Jember. Nearby Bandealit, there is
Sukamade Beach, Banyuwangi regency, which is the place of breeding sea turtles. This beach is famous
for the calm waves and the beauty of the flora. Bandealit is very suitable for the visitors who like off-road
activities because the road to Bandealit is difficult to travel. In Bandealit the visitors can hike, fish and
windsurf. This beach often visited by the sea adventurous who like the challenges. The visitors can reach
Bandealit by truck or rental car in 90 minutes from the central town.

Tancak waterfall is located 16 km southwest of Jember. This is one of the highest waterfalls in Jember
Regency. Its height is 82 m and it produces water at the rate of 150 cubic meters per second. That makes
this waterfall as one of the most reliable and spectacular natural tourism objects. Around the waterfall
area, the visitors can also enjoy coffee agro tourism on Pasang Mountain. This place is often visited by
foreign tourists. The visitors can get there by rental car in 30 minutes from downtown Jember.

Lereng Raung Waterfall

Lereng Raung Waterfalls, is located about 32 km northeast of Jember, consists of three kinds of
waterfalls, each measuring 25 m height. It is called Lereng Raung by the native community because the
water sources come from Mount Raung, although it lies in Rowosari district of Jember. Visitors who wish
to visit the waterfalls by foot should have appropriate physical fitness. The beautiful scenery will be
enhanced by durian aroma when the Durian trees are fruiting. The visitors who enjoy the beauty of

Bedadung Hill Panorama

This tourism object lies at the side of Bedadung River, one of river in Jember. At this site, visitors and
their family can ride water cycling boat, enjoy the swimming pool and other facilities for kids. Moreover,
the destination is only five minutes ride from the downtown. Another recreational activity that available is

Rembangan, 12 km to the north of Jember, is a mountainous tourism object complete with swimming

visitors can enjoy the beautiful sunrise. The visitors are surrounded by blue skies, green plants, and

Patemon Swimming Pool

located in the northern part of Tanggul, precisely 30 km to the west of Jember Regency. Not only swim,

Going on a trip by lorry from Garahan to Merawan tunnel is a safe and enjoyable trip. The tourists can see

train tunnels in Indonesia remaining from the Dutch period. In addition to the railway tunnels, the visitors

Gunung Gambir Tea Plantation, located at 48 km northeast of Jember, is a site remaining from the Dutch
period. At 900 m above sea level, the Argopuro slope area has great potential for European exported beer
tea. Tourists can see tea trees that were planted in 1918, 1923,and 1927 and can watch beer tea processing
from picking to packaging. All visitors can all have a taste of tea and a walk through the plantation in the
morning. To give more services, the company provides accommodation, tennis courts and a childrens
swimming pool. Visitors can travel for 15 minutes from downtown Jember to reach Gunung Gambir Tea
Plantation by public transportation, rental car or taxi.
Loko Tour

Semboro Sugar Factory, 35 km west of Jember, was built during the Dutch colonial period by Handles
Vereniging Amsterdam (a Dutch private company) in 1921 with 2103 hectares of sugar cane fields which
spread out in the western and the northern part of Jember. In the Japanese colonial period, sugar
producing activities stopped and it was changed to a soda factory to fulfill the needs of the Japanese
government. A few years after Indonesian Independence Day, in 1949, it became an ammunition factory
to provide supplies for the Indonesian freedom fighters against the colonialists seeking to reoccupy
Indonesia. From 1950 to 1957 the milling activities began producing sugar which was already taken over
by the Indonesian government. Due to its demands since 1978, the Semboro Sugar Factory has tried to
increase its production from 24.000 kw to 54.000 kw per day. Foreign visitors can take a nostalgic tour by
steam locomotive for 2 hours and can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Semboro Sugar Factory
is about 120 minutes from the center of Jember and visitors can hire a car to reach this destination.

Cigar Agrotourism

Cigars are made of rolled dried tobacco leaves. Nusantara Plantation Corporation 10 lies eight kilometers
north of Jember. The cigars are exported to Europe, America and Australia. However, it also produces
Indonesian cigars for domestic consumption. All visitors can see the process of cultivating seedlings,
drying tobacco leaves, picking as well as the making of cigars. Dutch visitors can especially enjoy the
nostalgia of the site as they participate in the agro tourism. The first people who introduced the process of
tobacco cultivation were the Dutch. Jember became known to Europeans as the Tobacco city

Lahbako Dance

Turba Condro cemeteries are located 1 km from the center of Jember. They are the burial places for Islam
religious leaders like 'Mbah Shiddiq'. Mbah Shiddiq was the greatest Moslem leader who spread the
religion of Islam in this area. According to the legend of Jember, the name of Jember was given by him,
derived from "jembar" (means large). Mbah Shiddiq was one of Saichone Cholil's students of Madura.

Sebagai penggemar Masakan Padang, satu hal yang tidak boleh absen dalam menu makan saya adalah
sambal ijo-nya. Inilah salah satu komponen utama yang bikin saya dan banyak orang lainnya kecanduan
dengan masakan padang.
Meski sambal ini tersedia secara gratis dan terlihat remeh, namun kehadirannya sangat penting karena
membuat lauk lainnya terasa lebih maknyusss berpuluh-puluh kali lipat, hehe. Apalagi kalo si sambel ijo
ini bersanding dengan lalapan daun singkong muda. Uuuugghh kok tiba-tiba lapar ya? hihiii...
Kenapa kok sambal ijo rasanya bisa begitu enak? Ternyata rahasianya sederhana saja kok, yaitu
perpaduan bahan-bahan berikut yang dicampur dalam minyak goreng.
Tambahan jeruk nipis pada sambal membuat rasanya terasa lebih segar. Bunda pun pasti bisa
membuatnya dengan mudah. Berikut resep Sambel Ijo ala RM Padang:
Bahan-bahan:

15 buah cabai hijau besar, buang tangkainya

15 buah cabai rawit hijau

5 siung bawang merah

2 siung bawang putih

2 buah tomat hijau

1 sdt perasan jeruk nipis

Gula pasir dan garam secukupnya

Minyak goreng secukupnya

Cara membuat:
1. Kukus cabai rawit, bawang merah, cabai hijau, tomat dan bawang putih sampai layu.
2. Angkat dan Potong-potong lalu diulek kasar, jangan sampai terlalu lembut.
3. Panaskan minyak dan tumis sambal sampai harum.
4. Tambahkan gula, air jeruk nipis dan garam secukupnya. Biarkan hingga tercampur dan matang.

Sajikan dengan ayam goreng atau lauk favorit lain dan nasi hangat. Mudah sekali kan?
