    FADE IN:
    EXT.AL HAJIS CAFE AND BAKERY-NIGHT
    A black car, parked in front of cafes entrance-gate.
    INT.BLACK CAR-CONTINUING
    A BEARDED-MAN is in the driving seat. On his lap, a
    TIME-BOMB in half-open suitcase.
    On the car-dashboard, lie a .45 COLT PISTOL and a greeting
    card.
    His hand proceeds towards pistol, pauses, and then lifts
    greeting card. Opens it.
    On the card its written:
    Happy Marriage Anniversary to Dearest Mom and Dad.
    Reading this, he is nearly in tears.
    He finds P.T.O written at the bottom of the card. About to
    turn over the page of the card.
    Suddenly, alarm clock BEEPS. His wrist watch: 7 P.M.
    Leaves card on the car-dashboard, without turning page.
    Quickly, keeps pistol. Puts on a cap, wears a reading
    glass. Finally, looks himself, into rear-view mirror.
    INT.AL HAJIS CAFE HOUSE AND BAKERY-CONTINUING
    Dim lit. Mostly (6 or 7) Muslim customers. Sipping coffee
    or tea. Soft Arabic music fills the whole cafe.
    At the counter. RUBAB (mid 30s), a fat waitress.
    RUBAB
    Ye...ye kya ho raha hai. Ghar ja
    kar padhai karo.
    Usman (10), washing cups and saucers.
    USMAN
    Ammi woh U.S ja rahi hai...ab
    kabhi-kabhi hi ayegi.
    Rubab smiles.
    Bearded-man with suitcase, enters cafe. Looks at the big
    notice board kept beside counter.

    2.

    Written on the notice board: All India Muslim Youth Meet


    For Peace; First Floor; 7 P.M to 8 P.M.
    He proceeds to a table. Sits on SOFA-CHAIR. Keeps keys on
    the table and lifts menu card. Slowly, lowers suitcase.
    Keeps it, on the floor.
    Stealthily, he inspects whole cafe. By his foot, tries to
    push suitcase under the sofa-chair.
    Suddenly, Rubab comes to his table.
    RUBAB
    Salaam Walekum!
    Suitcase is just half-inside. Surprised, he looks over to
    Rubab.
    BEARDED-MAN
    Walekum a salaam!
    RUBAB
    Kya lange aap?
    BEARDED-MAN
    Black coffee.
    By his index finger, he gestures to the roof above his
    head.
    BEARDED-MAN (CONTD.)
    Is meeting mei... kitne log aye
    honge?
    Rubab looking at the roof answers
    RUBAB
    Kariban...200 se 250 toh zaroor
    honge.
    Bearded-man smiles and Rubab smiles back. Confused, she
    leaves for bringing black coffee.
    Then, a POLICE-OFFICER with sniffer dog, enters cafe.
    Bearded-man notices officer. Scared, he lowers his right
    arm. Puts his hand inside inner pocket,holds pistol.
    Slowly, he pushes rest of the suitcase. Hidden now.
    The officer walks to the counter. Rubab, now at the
    counter. Getting black coffee from the coffee
    machine.Officer tells something to the Rubab.
    Frightened, bearded-man looks at Rubab and officer.
    Their conversation, inaudible to him.

    3.
    Suddenly a coin drops from the counter-table. Rolls on the
    floor. The dog looks at rolling coin and goes after it.
    Coin gets inside bearded-mans sofa-chair. Sound of coins
    collision to suitcase.
    The dog pauses at the bearded-mans table ,starts
    sniffing. Goes around the bearded-mans table. The dog
    stops at the sofa-chair. Sniffs faster now.
    Usman puts black coffee on bearded-mans table.
    USMAN
    Ammi jaan, doggy... uncle ko tung
    kar raha hai. Use coin
    chahiye...coin.
    The dog growls.
    Amazed, customers look at the dog and bearded-man.
    Officer rushes and grabs the dog-collar.
    Slowly, bearded-man brings pistol under the table, HIDDEN.
    Points it at the police officer.
    While pulling the dog, officer looks at the sofa-chair
    with a suspicion.
    Index finger of bearded-man on the trigger.
    Police officer smiles at bearded-man, unaware of hidden
    pistol. Bearded-man manages a nervous smile too.
    Finally, officer exits cafe with dog.
    EXT.AL HAJIS CAFE AND BAKERY-CONTINUING
    POLICE-OFFICER
    (to the dog)
    Sikkey-wikkey ke peeche kub se
    jane laga? Drrrug... bumm ke
    peeche ja bete.
    The dog stares at the parked black car of bearded-man.
    INT.AL HAJIS CAFE HOUSE AND BAKERY-CONTINUING
    Bearded-man comes to the counter leaving suitcase beneath
    chair. Pays bill.
    He is about to leave the cafe, at the door
    RUBAB
    Zanaab!
    Surprised, bearded-man turns around to face Rubab.

    4.
    RUBAB
    Kuch bhool rahe hai, aap?
    No answer. Tensed look on his face.
    Usman jingles his keys.
    Relieved, takes keys from Usman and leaves cafe.
    EXT.AL HAJIS CAFE AND BAKERY-CONTINUING
    Bearded-man takes out a remote from his pocket. But it
    slips and falls on the ground. A slight crack develops on
    it and battery comes out of it.
    Quickly, he collects remote. Puts back battery into it.
    Presses a red button on it.
    Looking back at the cafe, he rushes to his car.
    INT.AL HAJIS CAFE HOUSE AND BAKERY-CONTINUING
    Usman is cleaning just vacated table by bearded-man. He
    senses someone behind him. Turns around.
    Its RIYA (10),chewing a bubble-gum.
    RIYA
    Oye! school kyun nahi aa raha
    aaj-kal?
    Depressed, looking down, he answers.
    USMAN
    School fees... abbu ke dawaiyan
    kharidne mei chale gaye...mai
    next month se...
    RIYA
    Yaar!... tere Abbu thik ho
    jayenge. Cheer up!
    She sits on the sofa-chair. Suitcase with bomb, beneath
    this chair.
    INT.BEARDED MANS BLACK CAR-CONTINUING
    Bearded-man still pressing the red button on the remote.
    Frustated, he presses red button with force.
    A LED display screen-"00:60" after a second "00:59" then
    "00:58".
    He turns the keys to start the car. Engine coughs and
    dies. Tries again. Coughs and dies again.

    5.

    Panics and looks at the remote. LED display


    screen-"00:48".
    Horrified, tries again to start car. It starts.
    INT.AL HAJIS CAFE HOUSE AND BAKERY-CONTINUING
    Riya gives him chocolates and bubble gum.
    RIYA
    Mai ek week ke baad U.S ja rahi
    hoon. Ab wahi nana-nani ke saath
    rahoonge...
    Usman takes out a tabeez from his pocket.
    USMAN
    Its from ...Ajmer sherif.
    He helps her wear it.
    A 70-year-old man looks at them and smile in awe.
    Then, Usman notices coin on the floor. Bends down to take
    it. He SEES SUITCASE beneath sofa-chair.
    EXT.AL HAJIS CAFE HOUSE AND BAKERY-CONTINUING
    Bearded-mans car, now parked 300 m away from the cafe.
    Surrounding areas of the car, dark and deserted.
    INT.BEARDED MANS BLACK CAR-CONTINUING
    Bearded-man is in the driving seat again. He is looking at
    the reflection of the cafe in the rear-view mirror.
    Tension grows on his face.
    LED display screen "00:11" then changes to "00:10".
    INT.AL HAJIS CAFE HOUSE AND BAKERY-CONTINUING
    Usman keeps suitcase on the table and starts playing tabla
    on it.
    RIYA
    Whose suitcase is that?
    He keeps it over his head. Frees it from his hand. Blows
    out bubble-gum from his mouth. Size of bubble increasing.
    About to burst.

    6.

    INT.BEARDED MANS BLACK CAR-CONTINUING


    Bearded-man is motionless now.
    His eyes fixed on Remotes screen.
    The LED display screen- 00:03 after a second 00:02,
    then to 00:01, finally 00:00.
    But, no explosion.
    Confused, he looks at the reflection of caf in the
    rear-view mirror.
    Frustrated,he looks at the remote and shakes it. Goes mad.
    Starts pressing red button on the remote again and again.
    INT. AL HAJIS CAFE AND BAKERY- CONTINUING
    Riya snatches suitcase from Usman. Keeps it over her head.
    Balances it. She starts walking.
    RIYA
    Mai toh ise rakh kar chal bhi
    sakti hoon. Can you? Can you?
    Suddenly, she misbalances and suitcase falls.
    USMAN
    Oohh..
    While falling gets an edge of the table and lands on the
    sofa.
    INT. BEARDED MANS CAR - CONTINUING
    Bearded-man, with screw-driver opens remote. Tightens few
    screws in its circuit board. Finally, assembles it back.
    Presses red-button on the remote. The LED display screen
    on the remote starts flashing number again.
    The LED display screen-00:60.
    BEARDED-MAN
    (mimics Rubabs voice)
    Kariban ...200 se 250 toh zaroor
    honge.
    Looks at the reflection of caf in the rear-view mirror.

    7.
    INT. AL HAJIS CAFE AND BAKERY- CONTINUING
    Riya keeps suitcase back on the table.
    RIYA
    Hai kya Isme?
    She takes out bobby pin from her hair. Puts it in the
    keyhole of the suitcase.
    Puts her ear to the suitcase. Turns the hairpin. A click
    sound.
    USMAN
    Khul gaya?
    RIYA
    Just wait.
    Curious, Usman also brings his ear close to the suitcase
    and listens carefully.
    INT.BEARDED MANS BLACK CAR-CONTINUING
    Remotes LED display screen- 00:30
    Smoke all around in the car.
    Half lit cigarette in bearded-mans hand.
    INT.AL HAJIS CAFE AND BAKERY- CONTINUING
    Riya turns the bobby pin once more. Click sound. Turns
    once more. Click sound. Suitcase opens.
    USMAN
    Genius!
    Excited, he gives a high-five to her.
    Riya is about to lift the upper case of suitcase.
    RUBAB (O.S)
    Doosro kee chije nahi chutey,
    bete.
    USMAN
    Ammi jaan, Hum log toh bus...
    RIYA
    She is right. We should not open
    it.
    USMAN
    Will just open and ...then close
    it.

    8.

    RIYA
    Nope!
    She gives suitcase to Usman.
    RIYA
    Yaaar! Counter pe rakh de. Jinke
    hai, wo wapis aaenge lene.
    Usman keeps suitcase over his head. Frees it from his
    hand. Suitcase, slightly open. He walks to the counter,
    balancing it.
    Customers look at him. To cheer him up, some of them
    starts clapping. He is about to reach counter. His mother
    waiting for him.
    Rubab smiles at Usman, and Usman smiles back.
    INT.BEARDED MANS BLACK CAR-CONTINUING
    Remotes Screen Two- 00:03 then to 00:02 then 00:01,
    finally screen shows-"00:00".
    A deafening sound of BOMB EXPLOSION. Rear-view mirror
    shows the image of entire Caf-building in fire. Sound of
    chaos, Fire fighting and ambulance sound is heard.
    He takes out a photograph from his wallet. A picture of
    lady (mid 30s) in it.
    He removes cap and reading glass. With pain, looks at the
    photograph.
    BEARDED-MAN
    Happy marriage anniversary!... I
    miss you.
    He cries.
    BEARDED-MAN
    (weeping)
    Unohne humey mara hai... hum uneh
    marenge. Wo blast karenge, hum
    bhi blast karenge.
    He yells in anger and pain.
    BEARDED-MAN
    AN EYE FOR AN EYE.
    Removes mustache, then beard. Throws the stick-on mustache
    and beard at the back-seat of the car.On the backseat,
    four more similar suitcases are present.

    9.

    He looks at the greeting card on the dashboard. Sees


    P.T.O. written at the bottom of the card. He turns over
    the page. Freezes on reading it.
    SHOCKED. Card falls from his hand.
    On the turned page of greeting card its writtenDear Dad,
    I will bring your favorite cake, from AL HAJIS CAF AND
    BAKERY. Love you.
    Yours RIYA.
    BLACK SCREEN:
    SUPER: AN EYE FOR AN EYE MAKES WHOLE WORLD BLIND.
