TWO FACE Written by Roy Endean

Draft One 25/9/2012

FADE IN: EXT. PARK - DAY It is lunchtime, in a city park, softly lit. A WOMAN sits quietly eating her lunch on a bench, a paper folded and resting on her lap. She is young, or youngish, a professional starting out in life and oblivious to those passing by. CLOSE UP as she turns the pages of the paper. When we return to the wide shot we find he has company. A MAN with a HORSES HEAD as his own sits on the other side of the bench. We continue for a moment as if nothing strange has happened. A pedestrian moves past and we flash black, returning to find that HORSE HEAD MAN has inched closer to the YOUNG PROFESSIONAL. CLOSE UP as the HORSE HEAD MAN takes a BAG of FEED from his jacket. He offers it to the YOUNG PROFESSIONAL who rejects it promptly. Another pedestrian flashes past and again we return to the bench, finding that once more the HORSE HEAD MAN has inched closer. And again... closer... A shot from behind the bench, HORSE HEAD MAN turns slowly and looks longingly at the YOUNG PROFESSIONAL. There is something strange here. More than we initially imagined. Returning to the wide shot once more. YOUNG PROFESSIONAL is becoming uncomfortable. She turns away from his unwanted guest. There is tension. Movement. Finally, HORSE HEAD MAN turns to speak but it is too late, mid question he is left on his own as the YOUNG PROFESSIONAL, sensing danger abruptly gathers her belongings and leaves. Another pedestrian flashes past. We come from the black screen to find HORSE HEAD MAN lying curled on the park bench, sad, emotional, crying even but it is not quite obvious to us and then we FADE OUT.

2.

EXT. THE CITY - DAY/EVENING HORSE HEAD MAN in a low daze of rejection moves about the city. He walks down narrow side streets, his large head bobbing, sobbing, loose and heavy. He rests on metal railings and gazes at the river which cuts the city. Perhaps as evening approaches he wanders more. INT. A PUB - EVENING HORSE HEAD MAN sits alone in the corner of a PUB and nurses his pint. He has no mind for it, heartbroken as he is. EXT. APARTMENT - NIGHT HORSE HEAD MAN returns to his apartment. He walks through the door, undoing his jacket. He finds himself in the kitchen and pours himself a drink. On the kitchen table he picks up a framed photographed. CLOSE UP of the photograph reveals it is the YOUNG PROFESSIONAL, candidly, from a distance, unaware. A thumb brushes over the glass in a last moment of connection, one sided at best. In another room a switch brings light to a room. In the centre of the room is a chair waiting, and above it a noose tied and ready. HORSE HEAD MAN approaches. He stands on the chair and places the noose around his neck. His FEET waver. He breaths heavy. He JUMPS. On the floor of the apartment a BODY falls. The noose reveals the HORSE HEAD mask stuck within it. On the floor we see the body of the man, and now instead of the HORSE HEAD he wears the MASK of a GOAT. We cannot tell if he is laughing or crying. Holding that shot for a moment we... FADE OUT.
