REDDITORS AWARDS 2016 MONACO-ITALY

CONTEXT
What are Redditors awards?
Since the Monaco GP 2016, Ive been polling the r/formula1 community to identify the best/worst driver and
team of the day after each race

The goal of these polls was to:

Get a better sense of how the different drivers and teams fare, race after race
Obtain a (hopefully!) more meaningful outcome than the FOMs DOTD awards
Major challenges
A fair amount of hate votes or love votes, independent from the drivers performance. To-date, I havent
found a solution to this, but I unfortunately dont think there is any
Because these polls are subjective, it would often occur that the same driver/team would be high up in both
Best and Worst ratings. To address this, Ive adopted a methodology similar to the Net Promoter Score
one: each Best vote equals to a +1, while each Worst vote equals to a -1. The ranking is then displayed
on a single list, from the highest (Hot) to the lowest (Not) score
This presentation
After nine races, Ive decided to produce an overall ranking, averaging each drivers / teams rating for all
races from Monaco to Italy. The number of votes is not taken into account
I hope youll enjoy these results and their interpretation. Feel free to reach out with any suggestions to
improve the polls / analysis in the future, and I look forward to reading your thoughts based on these results!

COMMENTARY DRIVERS

Ricciardo with a slight advantage over Checo

Dan the Shoey is the hottest driver, as he won
Best driver in Germany and Italy, and had strong
rankings in Hungary and Monaco (aka Save it) as
well
Sergio Perez is a strong second, with two huge
Best (Monaco and Baku), and average results
beyond that. Promising outcome ahead of next
year.

Mad Max or a story of inconsistency

Verstappen has the highest standard
deviation by far primarily illustrated by
his overwhelming Best at Silverstone, and
equally overwhelming Worst at Spa
Funnily enough, the (allegedly) most
popular driver scores as average overall

The ROS case

Nico Rosberg wins Worst over the period. I can already
anticipate a huge amount of controversy around this result (I
was surprised myself), but this is explained by his Worst for
Austria (aka Nico hit me v 2.0) and Germany.
Beyond that, and aside from Italy, Nico rarely scored very high,
and while Im sure part of it has to do with hate votes, his
spot says something, particularly next to Lewis who finishes
third overall.
The rest of the Worst story is pretty telling: Kvyat (no
comment), Palmer (pretty poor performance throughout) and
Gutierez (aka the moving wall) performed pretty badly.

RoGro, KMag and Sainz on rails

All three of these (+ Ocon, with only
two races) had pretty average
scores throughout, which highlights
their consistency but also the lack
of amazing performance
To their defense, Grosjean and
Magnussen got two and one DOTD
respectively earlier in the year

COMMENTARY TEAMS

Untouchable Mercedes; Force India, slowly but surely

As expected, Mercedes takes this one and by far. Merc scored high
consistently, and was elected Best three times: at Silverstone, in
Hungary and at Monza. Pretty impressive feat.
Force India is a solid second, which is probably the most exciting result
to me: even though the Carlos Slim buy-out rumors turn out to be false,
the small team thats growing will most likely attract other big names
Similarly to their young driver, Red Bull fared pretty inconsistently, with a
Best in Germany and Austria but a Worst at Monaco; look forward to
seeing what the Milton Keynes folks will do in the last third of 2016

Light at the end of the tunnel for

Renault and Sauber?
Once again, the results are pretty
telling here; Renault finishes last,
with consistently poor results; this
was to be expected, as the team
has pretty much given up on 2016
to focus on building a (hopefully)
banging 2017 car
Sauber is also at the bottom, with
extremely poor results throughout,
along with an unclear future.
