1. SAP INTRODUCTION

1.1.

SAP stands for Systems, Applications and Products in data processing.

5 IBM employees founded SAP in 1972 in Walldorf, Germany.

SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is commercial software that will

integrate all information altogether in a single software considering various
factors.

The core domain of SAP ERP involves two modules.

Functional Modules
Material Management,
Sales and Distribution,
Production Planning,
Plant Maintenance,
Project Systems,
Quality Management,
Human Resources,
Financial Accounting,
Controlling,
Business (Data) Warehouse, etc.

2. LANDSCAPE OF SAP
Landscape is an arrangement of the server system or like a layout of the servers or
simply the architecture of the servers.
SAP follows 3-system landscape.
A request will flow from
Development (DEV) -> Quality Assurance (QAS) -> Production (PRD)

Development Server:
It is the server where the consultants work to do customization & write programs
as per the business requirements.
It has three clients: Sand Box Client, Customizing Client and Development Client.
Sand Box Client is the place where all the system design work takes place.
Customizing Client also known as Golden Client. After the design gets ok in sand
box client, we recreate the material and do all the configurations here.
Development Client also known as Testing Client is used for unit testing.

Quality Assurance Server:

It is the place where core team members and other team members work.
They do integration testing.
Production Server:
It is the server where the live data of company is recorded after project go live.

3. ARCHITECTURE OF SAP
The SAP R/3 System has three-tier client/server architecture.
All data is stored in a database, and the data is processed in the application
layer on the application servers.
The SAP GUI frontend (presentation layer) is the interface to the user.
All three layers are connected to each other with networks.

4. ASAP METHODOLOGY
ASAP stands for Accelerated SAP.
The ASAP methodology for implementation is a phased, deliverable-oriented
methodology that streamlines implementation projects, minimizes risk, and reduces total
cost of implementation.

Phases in ASAP methodology Project Preparation

Business Blue Print
Realization
Final Preparation
Go Live and Support
1. Project preparation- In the project preparation phase, the project team defines
project goals and a project plan. The implementation strategy is defined and
approved. At the same time, the project procedures, standards, organization,
and staffing are finalized.

2. Business blueprint- During this business blueprint phase, solution and

technical designs are documented in the business blueprint.

3. Realization- In the realization phase, the SAP software system is configured
and tested in a number of cycles. Initially, the baseline configuration, which
represents the core business process settings, is performed, tested, and
confirmed. This is followed with a series of configuration and development
cycles, to implement the entire end-to-end solution.
4. Final preparation- Within the final preparation phase, all systems are known
to function correctly following the approved integration test. Technically, all
integration issues should now be resolved. At the end of this phase, the
production system is switched on and business operations start in the new
environment
5. Go-live support- The purpose of the go-live support phase is to move from a
preproduction environment to live production operation.

5. INTRODUCTION OF SAP PP

Production Planning is the process of aligning demand with manufacturing

capacity to create production and procurement schedules for finished products and
component materials.
It tracks and makes a record of the manufacturing process flows, for example, the
planned and actual costs. Also, goods movements from the conversion of raw
material to semi-finished goods.
In any company when we talk about manufacturing we have align and manage
several. The nature and the constraints of these resources are sometimes
determined by some strategic decisions and daily running of manufacturing rests
with Production Planning and Control (PP&C) The purpose of PP&C is to ensure
that manufacturing runs effectively and efficiently and to align the production
processes with the timings promised to customers.

Features of SAP PP

The features of SAP PP system are as follows:

SAP PP is mainly divided into planning and execution.
Planning:
Planning contains materials planning and capacity planning.

Materials planning can be done for different lengths.

Long term planning, material requirements planning etc

Execution:
Execution contains creation of production order, scheduling, work flow
(such release printing), confirmations, goods movements, technical
completion.
Most of the above mentioned sub processes need master data to be
maintained. And when you carry out, they generate transactional data like
planned orders, production orders, accounting documents etc.

5.2.

Components of PP
There are three types of production process in SAP.
1. Enterprise structure
2. Master data

3. Discrete Manufacturing
4. Repetitive Manufacturing
5. Production Process Industries.

5.3.

Enterprise Structure:
Every organization has some framework or some structure is defined
according to which the whole business runs.
Enterprise structure is the structure that represents an enterprise in SAP
ERP system.
Enterprise structure defines various levels in an organization.

5.4.

Client

Company

Company Code

Plant

Storage Location

Master Data:
Data that is created centrally and it is valid for all applications.
It remains constant over the time but we need to update it on regular basis.
SAP PP Master Data is of following four types:
Material Master
