Physical Education and Health Syllabus

Course Description:
PE: We will be focusing on skill development and team play through instruction in a
variety of sports including the following:

Fitness
Soccer
Basketball
Handball
Football
Wiffle Ball
Frisbee

Instruction will include 3 4 weeks of skill development and competitive team play.
The goal is for all students to develop basic skills in the sports that we will be
playing and to create a healthy and enjoyable perception of team sports.
Health: We will be focusing on understanding health concepts and application for
adolescents. We will spend the year going through our health curriculum and
developing an understanding of the human body, benefits of fitness, and nutrition.

Objective: To equip students with the knowledge and skills to maintain a


healthy and active lifestyle now and in the future.

Class Expectations:
1. Respect your classmates and teachers
a. You are expected to treat others the way that you want to be treated. This
includes during health class, PE, in the locker rooms and any other time that
you are on the school premises.

2. Maintain a positive attitude


a. You are expected to maintain a positive attitude before, during and following
our activities in PE and health class. Negativity is contagious and is not
acceptable in this class. You are expected to encourage each other during all
physical activities.

3. You must attempt each activity to the best of your ability


a. You are expected to willingly participate in all activities in PE and health. You
are not expected to be perfect but I do expect everyone to try activities.

4. Be prepared for class


a. You must come to class prepared. During PE class, you must wear tennis
shoes, athletic shorts and a TMSA PE shirt. During health class, you are
expected to come to class with Pen/pencil, paper, and you book.

Grading Scale:
The PE and health scores will be averaged to give one overall grade for PE/Health.

National Standards:
Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns
needed to perform a variety of physical activities.
Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles,
strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical
activities.
Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.
Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and
others in physical activity settings.
Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, selfexpression, and/or social interaction.
