MESSAGE FROM the

PRESIDENT/CEO
Each year when I begin to formulate
what will go into this article I am always
impressed with the work that has been
accomplished throughout the year. In
the business of our everyday lives we
sometimes forget to reflect on what
has been accomplished and just keep
moving forward on to the next initiative,
task, or project. The Annual Report is a
time for us to take a moment to look
back over the previous year to celebrate
accomplishments as well as to look at
areas that we need to spend more time
on in the coming year.
Economic development was again a
major focus of 2015. This year marked
the end of our three-year economic
development contract for services
with the City. We are very pleased that
the City Council opted to continue
our partnership for at least one more
year, hopefully longer. Much has been
accomplished the past three years and
there is still much work to be done.
The work of economic development
is a marathon not a sprint and we look
forward to continuing our work to
retain and grow the businesses in our
community.
The Chambers major events were all
once again successful in 2015. The
opportunity to recognize individuals
and businesses at these events is an
honor. The selection committees that
have the dubious task of looking at
all of the nominees for Mr./Mrs./
Ms. Canandaigua, ATHENA and the
business awards all comment on how
fortunate we are to have so many who
do so much for our community. Year
after year the sentiment is made and is
something we should take pride in as a
community.

A new annual event was also

introduced in 2015, the State of
the County, City, & Town. The
event is a great opportunity for our
elected officials at each level of local
government to share with the business
community what is happening in their
respective jurisdictions. It also serves
the business community as a chance
to connect with local officials and ask
questions.
The Year in Review section of the
Annual Report offers details of all of
the Chambers major events and other
programs for 2015. As you will see we
had great member and community
engagement at all of these functions
and we look forward to their continued
success for years to come.
As we enter 2016, the Chamber will
focus on the retention and growth
of our membership. We will also
be reestablishing the Tourism and
Community & Government Affairs
committees into active groups working
for the betterment of the business and
the community at large.
Thank you to the 2015 Board and
our talented staff for their continuous
dedication to the Chamber. I look
forward to a successful 2016 working
with our Board and staff to focus
on key initiatives to strengthen the
Chambers already strong foundation
and continue to be the voice of
business in the Canandaigua area.

2015 BOARD CHAIR - JODEE CASE RIZZO

What an amazing year! It was an honor to serve
as the Chair of the Board of the Canandaigua
Chamber of Commerce for 2015. I feel truly
blessed to have worked with such a fantastic
group of people.
Unexpected health issues, as well as a career
change made it a very interesting year. The
support I received from the board members and
the Chamber staff was overwhelming.
2015 was the third year of a three-year economic
development contract with the City of
Canandaigua. The Chambers efforts led by both
Alison and Thomas, along with the committee
have been second to none. The progress that has been made
is something to really brag about. The Chamber currently
has a one-year contract with the City, which I believe will
be extended in the future.

Once again, the major Chamber events were

well attended and extremely successful. Thanks
to Elisha for her hard work and organization,
she makes it look so easy. Being this years
Board Chair has made me realize how fortunate
Canandaigua is to have such a great Chamber.
We all want Canandaigua to be a great place to
live, work and raise our families. Its reassuring
to know that the Chamber is working every day
to make that happen.
In closing, I would like to thank the entire
Board as well as the staff for an amazing year.
The Chambers future is very bright and I look
forward to all of the good things to come.
My very best to all of you for a happy and healthy 2016!

2016 BOARD CHAIR - PAUL GRISWOLD

Thank you to the 2015 Board Chair, Board,
volunteers and staff for all your dedication to
the Chamber. I am honored to serve as the
2016 Chamber Board Chair.
In 2016 the Chamber will build on the stabilized
foundation that has been built by the 2015
Board. The Canandaigua area is fortunate to
have a Chamber that is as engaged as ours but
we need to tell our story. Membership retention
and growth will be a key priority of the Chamber
this year and into the future. We have merged
the Ambassadors and Membership committees
into one which will focus their efforts on new
members, retention of existing members and marketing.
The Board will also play a active role in membership
growth.
The Chamber will also continue to be a strong advocate for
the business community. The Community & Government
Affairs committee will play an important role in providing
information to the membership about legislative issues
and community awareness topics of importance to the
business community. In addition, the Chambers Tourism

committee will be working to grow awareness

of the economic impact that tourism and the
businesses and events that are a part of that
industry have on our area. There are tremendous
opportunities for our area as a destination but
we must encourage this type of growth instead
of discourage it.
Our partnership with the City for Economic
Development has been extended an additional
year with the potential for a two year extension.
We will continue our focus on this important
area for our community. It is amazing what
has been accomplished and what is done on a
daily basis by our committed volunteers and staff through
this partnership. We will continue our successful business,
retention, expansion program, place a stronger focus on the
southeast quadrant of the City where there is significant
vacant land, as well as continue the work that has already
began on the old Meridian site and the Labelon building.
I look forward to working with the 2016 Board, committees
and the Chamber staff to further the work of the Chamber!
