(1) INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing Warlords Battlecry II.
Due to the fact that the manual for a game must be finalized and printed more th
an a month before the game is finished, it is unavoidable that some things in th
e game will have changed.
The following text describes the last minute changes that were made to the game
and also contains errata for the manual.
If your text is not already wrapping, then to make reading easier, you will want
to do the following:
In WordPad, go to View/Options. From that menu, select the Word tab, then make s
ure the "Wrap to Window" option is clicked.
In NotePad, just click Edit and make sure Word Wrap is selected.
Enjoy!

(2) MANUAL ERRATA
Due to the constant testing and balancing that goes on up until final release, s
ome units, tables and stat's may change.
The following is a list of all changes that missed the manual:
* The Halberdier does triple damage vs. Cavalry (similar to the Pikeman)
Note that the documentation (.CHM) help files that released in the documentation
directory on tbe Battlecry II CD
will contain these up-to-date changes.
================================
(3) FILE STRUCTURE
To be compliant with the new standards set in Windows XP, no user-created data i
s stored in the Installation directory of the game.

All files are located in the "My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II" folder, acces
sible from your desktop.
To be consistent, this behavior has been applied not only to our XP installation
s, but to all versions, right back to Windows 95.
These files will be unaffected by installing or uninstalling the game.
For purposes of backup, your heroes can be found in
"My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II\HeroData.xcr
When you create or download a new scenario, it should be in the following folder
:
"My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II\Scenario"
Any music themes you create for the game should be placed into
"My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II\Music"
Any Customized AI's you obtain for the game should be placed into
"My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II\CustomAI"
Any new Attitudes you obtain for the game should be placed into
"My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II\CustomUnitAI"
Saved games can be found in the following folder
"My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II\Saved Games"
Screen Captures (obtained via the F9 key while playing the game) can be found in
the following folder
"My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II"
They will be named Screen01.bmp, Screen02.bmp, etc...

(4) KNOWN PROBLEMS
Q. I have Windows 95 and I can't seem to get ubi.com to work. What can I do?
A. You will need to find, download and install WinSock2.dll from the internet (w
ww.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/bin/W95ws2setup.exe). Once this is done, you
should remove the following two files from your Warlords Battlecry II installat
ion directory:
WS2_32.dll
WS2HELP.dll
Q. The mouse is stuck when I start the game, how can I play?
A. Minimize the game by pressing ALT+TAB. Then click on it in the Taskbar to ma
ximize it again. The mouse should now be working.
Q. When I change my sound settings I get a horrible ringing noise, how do I stop
it?

A. This problem has only been reported under Windows XP. It involves a problem
in the EAX sound drivers for certain Soundblaster Live sound cards.
To fix the problem, you should set EAX to <Off> in the sound menu of the Opti
ons screen.

(5) TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS
- IMPORTANT: Due to last minute server configuration changes, you will need to d
ownload the V1.01 patch from www.WarlordsBattlecry2.com before playing multiplay
er games on Ubi.com.
- Please make sure that all of your hardware drivers are updated before playing
Warlords Battlecry II. In previous games, over 90% of problems were fixed when
a user upgraded their drivers, particularly for their video card and sound card.
You can usually find new drivers on the website of the hardware manufacturer. F
or example, if you have an NVidia GeForce II video card, look for new drivers on
www.nvidia.com
- Close all other programs before playing Warlords Battlecry II
To free up as much memory & processor power as possible, it is always advisable
to close all other applications before playing. This is particularly important
in multiplayer, especially since some applications may cause Battlecry II to min
imize, which can affect the quality of the game. Do not task out of the game in
single or multiplayer. Although it has been extensively tested, on some system
s it may still cause problems.
- Also, be sure to disable any passworded screensaver before playing Warlords Ba
ttlecry II.
- The host of a multiplayer game should have the fastest machine.
We recommend a Pentium III or fast AMD Athlon class machine to host games.
- Minimum spec PCs & Multiplayer games
Some minimum spec PCs may have problems in some multiplayer games. Because of t
he extra load on the CPU, we recommend that you use a PC slightly better than mi
nimum spec for multiplayer games, particularly over the Internet.
- Please ensure that you have sufficient free space on the drive to which you in
stalled Warlords Battlecry II.
Saved games and temporary files can easily take up 100Mb of disk space, so pleas
e make sure that you have AT LEAST this much space free.
- Do not install Warlords Battlecry II to either the root of C:\ drive or the C:
\Windows folder.

(6) GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING
Q. I get a black screen when I start the game. How can I fix this?
A. 99% of the time this is caused by a DirectX video driver problem. You should

update your PC with the latest video drivers from your video card manufacturer.
If this does not solve the problem, make sure to try the following things:
a) Ensure DirectX 8 (or higher) is installed
b) Try running the game with NO MUSIC (see below for a description)
c) Try running the game with NO SOUND (see below for a description)
If none of these suggestions help, you will need to contact Technical Support.
Q. How do I run the game without music?
A. You should alter the game's shortcut as follows:
a) Right Click on the game's shortcut icon on your desktop
b) Select "Properties" from the menu
c) In the "Target" field, add " NOMUSIC" (don't forget the space at the start)
d) Click "Okay"
Q. How do I run the game without any sound at all?
A. You should alter the game's shortcut as follows:
a) Right Click on the game's shortcut icon on your desktop
b) Select "Properties" from the menu
c) In the "Target" field, add " NOSOUND" (don't forget the space at the start)
d) Click "Okay"
This NOSOUND option will disable all sound and music in the game.
Q. I want to backup my heroes... where is my hero data stored?
A. All heroes are stored in the "My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II\HeroData.xcr
" file
Q. I want to reinstall the game, but I don't want to lose my heroes. What do I
do?
A. Uninstall the old game first. It is always
han over a previous version.
Then all you need do is install the new game Pursuant with the new standards set by Windows
rectory of the "My Documents" folder, so it is
me.

better to install fresh, rather t

your heroes will still be there.
XP, all data is stored in a subdi
not affected by installing the ga

Q. I want to use the editor. Where do I start?

A. Check out the Battlecry II Editor help file included with the game.
Q. The introductory videos have stopped playing. Is everything okay? Can I view
them again?
A. This is normal. After you have skipped the intro's twice, they will not auto
matically display again. You can see them again by pressing the "Show Intro" bu
tton on the options screen.
Q. I attempted to open the Warlords: Battlecry II help file from Windows 95A Sta
rt Menu and could not. What do I do?

A. You need Internet Explorer from Microsoft to do so. You can download Interne
t Explorer from Microsoft and then you will be able to open the files.
Q. Why can't I build buildings on the far left side of the map or put buildings
down in the editor on the far left side?
A. The game was designed to have a visual boundary on the left side. This is no
t a bug.
Q. My main Keep is destroyed and I destroy one of my own resource points; this r
esults in my resources being reset to below a 1000 resources. What's happening?
A. Do not destroy your own resource point if you have just lost your main buildi
ng or this may result in some resource loss.
================================
(7) MULTIPLAYER TROUBLESHOOTING
Q. I started AOL and then tried to start a multiplayer game over the Internet.
It is not working. What is wrong?
AOL is not designed to be a true Internet connection. AOL is designed to browse
AOL and Internet web sites, not play Internet games. A TCP/IP Internet connect
ion through an ISP is required for multiplayer Internet game play.
Q. The game froze up after I won or lost... What happened?
A. Most likely a player was disconnected from the game during play. This freeze
will last for less than a minute - so be patient! It is caused by DirectPlay c
hecking that the disconnected player is no longer in the game.
Q. Some of the units are skating around the screen. What is happening?
A. This is not a bug. Battlecry II is attempting to resynchronize so that all p
layers remain consistent within the game. If you see excessive skating of units
, it is a sign that one or more players have a poor connection to another player
(s) in the game or the Internet itself is performing poorly.
Q. Why do I get dropped from the game?
A. This usually happens because an unresolvable network problem occurred between
you and the other players and you lost your network connection with the game. T
his can happen for any number of reasons, including a dropped Internet connectio
n or an unreliable Internet connection. All players should connect to an Intern
et ISP at at least 33.6k.
DirectPlay has also sometimes been observed to drop internet players when too ma
ny messages are being passed & network traffic is too high. If you experience d
ropouts of this nature, two things that you might try are:
a) Playing the game at "Medium" speed rather than "Fast" or "Very Fast"
b) Limiting your games to 3 players, or maybe even 2 players in extreme cases
where connections are poor.

Q. Why does the game freeze up temporarily when another player disconnects unexp
ectedly?
A. This is normal, but should not last more than five seconds. Warlords Battlec
ry II is sorting through the messages sent by the disconnected player.
Q. Do you support Null-Modem or Direct-Serial connection?
A. No. These are not supported - only Internet, IPX, TCP/IP, & Modem games are s
upported.
Q. I started a TCP/IP game, but the IP address "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" seems to be wro
ng. Nobody can connect to my game. What's up?
A. You probably have 2 network cards installed in your PC, and Warlords Battlecr
y II is giving you the IP Address of the wrong card. You will need to find the
correct address by either of the following methods:
a) Open a DOS window and type "ARP -a"
b) Run the program "WinIPCfg.exe" and setup your PC to use the correct network
adapter for Battlecry
Q. Why can't I pause or change game speed in multiplayer games?
A. This is normal. These features are not supported in multiplayer because of t
he potential abuse & annoyance as players kept changing the game speed to suit t
hemselves. Game speed must be chosen BEFORE the game starts, from the Side Sele
ction screen (inside the "More Options" dialog.
Q. I played a multiplayer game and downloaded a map with the same name as a map
in the game. I now have a modified map of the map that shipped with the game.
How do I get the old map back?
A. You can enter into the "My Documents\Warlords Battlecry II\Scenario" director
y and remove the map (e.g., Badlands.SCN). The next time you play the game it w
ill find the old map.
Q. I exited a multiplayer Battlecry II game and was unable to reconnect to play
another game for quite a while. What is going?
A. Different modems take differing amounts of time to initialize for another con
nection. You can always turn off your modem and reboot your computer (or just r
eboot if the modem is an internal modem) and then you can reconnect immediately.
Q. I entered into the Battlecry II lobby, then tried to enter into a game in pro
gress. I cannot enter. What is happening?
A. Battlecry II does not support in game drop-in. You cannot join a game after
if has already started.

Q. Why can't I play Warlords Battlecry II multiplayer through my Firewall or Rou

ter?
A. You need to have certain ports open on your firewall for the game to communic
ate with other games.
Consult your Firewall or Router documentation to see how to open the following p
orts
2300-2400 (for inbound and outbound TCP & UDP messages)
47624
(for outbound TCP messages)
