The easiest method of installing FIFA SOCCER 2003 is to use the "Autorun" feature.
Upon inserting the FIFA CD1 into your CD-ROM drive, you may be prompted with a
"Dialog" screen. Select the language you wish to install.
To continue, click 'Next'. The "Autorun" menu appears; select 'Install' to launch
the FIFA SOCCER 2003 Installer.
The 'CD Key' screen appears, enter the serial key found on the back of the CD case
and click 'OK'.
The next screen will enable you to decide where and how you want to install FIFA
SOCCER 2003 -- perform a "Typical User" or an "Advanced User" install.
The "Typical User" install (default setting) will install FIFA SOCCER 2003 to
C:\Program Files\EA SPORTS\ FIFA 2003 (where "C:\" is the drive that your current
operating system is located).
The "Advanced User" option brings you to another popup, which allows you to choose
the install footprint size and the install location.
b.) If for some reason your "Autorun" feature is disabled, you can install the
program by running AUTORUN.EXE directly from the root directory of the CD.
Note: Manually performing a second FIFA SOCCER 2003 install before uninstalling
the original game files is not recommended. More specifically, installing into the
same location twice can cause the game to malfunction. To avoid problems, the
"Auto run" feature should be used for all installs and uninstalls.
3. DirectX 8.1
If you try to run the game without DirectX 8.1 installed, you will be prompted to
upgrade before the game installation begins. For your convenience, we have
included DirectX 8.1 on the FIFA CD1.
Note: If you already have DirectX 8.1 (or higher) installed, it is not necessary
to reinstall it.
"\DirectX\DXSETUP.EXE"
If your sound card or video card does not support DirectX8.1, please contact your
hardware vendor.
We also suggest you update your sound card and video card driver to the newest
release from the vendor or chipset website. It is only necessary to perform this
step if issues are encountered.
The simplest method of uninstalling FIFA SOCCER 2003 is to use "Uninstall FIFA
2003" shortcut in the Start Menu (usually "Start Menu/Programs/EA Sports/Uninstall
FIFA SOCCER 2003").
Windows also has an "Add/Remove Programs" Icon in the Control Panel that you can
use to uninstall the game.
5. Memory Requirements
Note: The more system memory available, the better the game will perform in all
areas.
There are several ways by which you can speed up the overall FIFA SOCCER 2003
experience:
a.) Choose a larger install - the more data that is on your hard drive, the less
time your PC needs to spend accessing the CD.
b.) Adjust the Detail Level in the Render Options on the Options screen - this
allows the user to reduce graphical quality in order to achieve better
performance.
c.) Disable the radar from the Options screen.
d.) Select the "On the Pitch" sound effects mix on the Options screen.
FIFA SOCCER 2003 performance under Windows 98 will be enhanced when DMA access is
enabled for the hard drive and CD ROM. If DMA is not enabled you may experience
frequent short pauses during gameplay. To ensure that DMA is enabled, follow these
steps:
i) Open up the Control Panel from the Settings menu in the Start menu.
Double-click on the System icon. Select the Device Manager tab. Open the CD-ROM
selection, highlight the device, and click the Properties button. Select the
Settings tab and ensure the DMA checkbox is checked, click the OK button.
ii) Now, while still in the Device Manager, open the Disk drives
Selections, highlight the hard drive device, and click the Properties button.
Select the Settings tab. Ensure the DMA checkbox is checked, click the OK button.
This is generally controlled by the BIOS.
iii) Now click the OK button to close the Device Manager. If DMA access to
the CD ROM or hard drive was not previously enabled, you will have to restart your
computer.
7. Hot Keys
The following hot keys can be used to access certain functions more quickly:
In the Front End (before you get to the game)
F10 - Chat (Multiplayer only)
F11 - Quit/Disconnect (Multiplayer only)
F12 - Exit to Windows
In the game
ESC - Pause Menu
F1 - Team Management
F2 - Instant Replay
F3 - Match Facts
F4 - Options
F5 - Side Select
F10 - Chat (Multiplayer only)
F11 - Quit/Disconnect (Multiplayer only)
F12 - Exit to Windows
1 - Tele Cam
2 - Tower Cam
3 - End-to-End Cam
4 - Sideline Cam
5 - Panoramic Cam
6 - Action Cam
7 - Dynamic End Cam
8 - Swing Cam
9 - Radar
You must use the mouse to navigate the game interface. Click on buttons and icons
to select modes and options. The keyboard is available to enter information or
send chat messages when playing other users via modem or network.
The "chat" feature is available in all Multiplayer modes by pressing the F10 key
(to open/close the dialogue box) and using the keyboard to type your message.
Joysticks/gamepads will not operate until you are in a game, except on the Side
Select screen. When you are on this screen, you must move whichever input device
you plan to use in the game to the left or the right to select your team. The game
will automatically detect the type of controller device, and a graphic will depict
it.
Please note that you may have to recalibrate your controllers with each new
install in order to have the game detect them correctly.
Some buttons may be reversed on a few USB plug and play gamepads. If the gamepad
manufacturer has provided software with the device, installing it may correct the
problem. You can also use the Control Options to remap your gamepad.
We highly recommend the use of a 360 analog gamepad such as the Microsoft
Sidewinder Gamepad Pro, Logitech Wingman Rumblepad, Gravis Eliminator Gamepad Pro
USB, Gravis Xterminator or Interact Axis Pad.
To bring up the in-game pause menus, you can press the Start button (if your
gamepad has one) or press ESC and then navigate with the mouse again.
Refer to the "Control Summary" card included in the FIFA SOCCER 2003 jewel case
for more detailed information on the in-game play controls.
9. Modem
Call Waiting
We recommend that call waiting be disabled, as we have experienced some problems
with it during modem games. Specifically, call waiting can disrupt modem games
already in progress.
You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher) installed for Internet
Matchmaker to launch correctly.
You can download updated browsers from:
Explorer: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.htm
Online game play for FIFA SOCCER 2003 will be available only until November 30,
2003, subject to online terms of use, and all features may not be available at the
time of purchase. Please check online at http://www.easports.com/ for more
information and terms of use.
If you are experiencing problems with your video card and FIFA SOCCER 2003, try
updating your video card driver by downloading the latest driver available from
the video card manufacturer. If there is no improvement, try using the latest
driver provided by the video chipset manufacturer. Your video card chipset is the
video-processing chip located on your video card. If there is no information in
your video card manual or website, check the video card for an identifying chip
with the chipset manufacturer's name on it. Some popular video chipset
manufacturer's websites are listed below:
NVIDIA http://www.NVIDIA.com/
3DLabs http://www.3dlabs.com/
Matrox http://www.matrox.com/
Intel http://www.intel.com/
ATI http://www.ati.com/
3Dfx http://www.3dfx.com/
All Video cards that do not have DirectX 8.1 support from the Hardware
manufacturer are not supported under FIFA 2003.
FIFA SOCCER 2003 supports Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows ME and Windows XP.
*NOTE - To install the game properly on Windows 2000/Windows XP, you will need
administrator access to your machine. Consult your Windows 2000/Windows XP
documentation for more information.
The player and team data used in FIFA SOCCER 2003 was verified for accuracy as of
August 12th, 2002. Any transfers or roster changes that occurred after this date
may not be reflected in the game.
