SAMALONA ISLAND
Samalona Island is a small island located
in the Makassar Strait, precisely on the
southwest coast of South Sulawesi,
Indonesia. To reach this island could use
a fishing boat and would take a half hour
travel time. On this island stands a
lighthouse that is used as boundary
markers for the big ships.

Samalona Island has a group of


coral islands with an area of 2.34
hectare circular. This small island
is one of the marine tourism
destination frequented by local
and foreign tourists. White sand

BIRA BEACH
Bira beach is a leading tourist attraction
in Bulukumba. Bira beach is located in
the southernmost tip of South Sulawesi
province, precisely in the District Bonto
Bahari, Bulukumba. Bira beach has
white sand beach that resembles flour.

Traditional
Foods
Makassar has several famous traditional

foods. The most famous is Coto Makassar.


It is a stew made from the mixture of nuts
and spices with beef parts which include
beef brain, tongue and intestine.

Konro rib dish is also popular traditional


food in Makassar. Both Coto Makassar and
Konro are usually eaten with Burasa, a
glutinous rice with coconut milk and sauted
coconut granule.

In addition, Makassar is the home of


pisang epe, or pressed bananas. These
are bananas which are pressed, grilled,
and covered with palm sugar sauce and
sometimes eaten with Durian. Many
street vendors sell pisang epe,
especially around the area of Losari
beach.
