The first-ever Tabernacle Fall

Festival will be a collaborative effort of Tabernacle's Cub Scout
Pack 439, the Tabernacle Rescue
Squad and the Education Foundation of Tabernacle to bring the
community together and reflect
on the core reasons why people
moved here in the first place.
We need to get that feeling
back, said Judy Sailer, the president of the education foundation
and bear den leader for the Cub
Scout pack who helps with the
rescue squad as well.
As a resident who is passionate
about the area, Sailer wants to
bring back that sense of appreciation for everything Tabernacle
has to offer.
We have some great community organizations in our town, and
when Im out talking to people
about these groups, they dont
know about them. They need to
be aware of these groups and
their events that people might be
interested in, Sailer said.

Each year, the Cub Scouts have

department and EMS. Kids also
get to learn about fire prevention
and other emergency services.

here are laws in place to protect peoples privacy. For example, it is not legal for someone
to walk onto your property and peer
into your ground-floor windows. It is
not legal for someone to place a ladder
against your house to climb and look
through your second-floor windows. It
is not legal for someone to walk on
your property and take photographs
or video.
However, the law becomes a little
unclear when you take the situations
above and replace the trespassing person in question with a drone.
New Jersey, thankfully, is trying to
clear up any ambiguity.
State Sen. Richard Codey is proposing legislation that would require
drones sold in New Jersey to be
equipped with technology that would

Before commercial aviation and
other technology wer around, a property owner was entitled to everything
on his or her land, including the soil
beneath and the air above. Naturally,
that changed over time, so as to not
prevent airplanes from flying overhead.
Now, though, the availability and affordability of drones has brought into
question just what should and should
not be allowed.
We agree with Codey that we dont

want someone flying a drone over our

house, or on our property, for that matter.
We like our privacy, and feel we are
entitled to it.
We also agree that, on a much larger
scale, drones can present safety issues as they did at the U.S. Open tennis tournament, a University of Kentucky football game and sightings
around Newark Liberty Airport recently.
And while we hope our legislators
pass regulations on drones within our
state, we hope the federal government
takes steps to pass federal bans and restrictions on drones, so people cant
just go over the state line to purchase a
drone without the restrictive technology and then fly it over our house with
no regard for our privacy or safety.

County plans flu vaccine clinics

The Burlington County Health Department has started providing seasonal flu
and pneumonia vaccines to county residents. Clinics are currently scheduled
throughout the county through December.
Residents who wish to register for clinics
in advance can do so by visiting the Health
Departments

Walk-ins are also welcome.
Those 65 years and older, children under
two, and those with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of experiencing
complications from the flu, but an annual
seasonal flu shot is recommended for all
residents aged 6 months and older by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Seasonal flu is a contagious respiratory
illness caused by flu viruses. It spreads be-

tween people and can cause mild to severe

illness. In some cases, the flu can lead to
death. In the United States, flu season occurs in the fall and winter.
Seasonal flu activity usually peaks in
January or February, but it can occur as
early as October and as late as May.
For the vaccine to provide full protection against the flu, it takes about two
weeks after vaccination for antibodies to
develop in the body.
Getting vaccinated early in the fall helps
to reduce the chances residents may get
sick before the vaccine is able to provide
full protection.
It can sometimes be hard to tell the difference between a bad cold and the flu.
Your primary care provider may be able to
test you within the first few days of symptoms to determine if you have the flu or

not. Symptoms of the flu include:

A 100F or higher fever or feeling feverish
A cough and/or sore throat
A runny or stuffy nose
Headaches and/or body aches
Chills
Fatigue
Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea

a positive memory from a negative situation, Rankel said.
Being as diverse as she has

her in her pageantry career.
While her looks have helped
her with the swimsuit and
evening gown aspect of the competition, her knowledge and maturity have helped her excel in
the interview stages of the pageant.
Contestants are examined before a panel of judges in which

they are asked various questions.

Judging criteria for the interview
competition is based on poise,
confidence and how well each
contestant can communicate her
ideas, as well as the substance of
each answer.
Rankels success in pageants
has meant a great deal to her, and
she is thankful for every experience she has acquired along the
way.
Her modeling career has landed in her places she never dreamt
possible.
In 2013, she was given the opportunity to walk for more than
20 international designers at New
York Fashion Week.
Pageants are a great way to be

said. Through pageants, girls are
offered terrific opportunities to

We are so proud of her, her
mother Patti said.
The finalists will compete for
the title of Miss New Jersey Teen
USA 2016 Oct. 16-18 at the Hilton
in Parsippany.
The young woman chosen as
the Teen Miss New Jersey will
spend her year as a teen ambassador, making appearances and promoting her platform among other
duties while holding the title.

health and wellness, so we wanted to follow that up with the addition of the run to get the support
of the school as well, Sailer said.
She thinks this will provide a
great opportunity for the countless folks who run and exercise
every day in Tabernacle to come
out and do just that as a community. There will likely be some
competition among the runners,
as many of them are looking to
get timed and enter into larger
runs. However, there will also be
the choice of a 1M run instead of
the 5K for runners looking to run
a shorter distance.
Invitations have also been sent
to both the Seneca and Rancocas

Valley high school track teams.

Folks will have the opportunity
to shop with the 50-plus vendors
that will be in attendance, providing everything from handmade
goods to pre-made materials.
The food truck food court will
also be a new idea that will consist of seven vendors making
their latest and greatest recipes.
Children will have the opportunity to play in the Nerf Battle
Zone or get to touch the vehicles
they typically dont get to go near
such as a fire truck, a dump truck
and even a helicopter from Virtua
Hospital. The festival will also
support the idea of building the
community by evenly distributing the proceeds and allowing
local organizations to set up and
collect donations while spreading
the word about their cause.
This is all about building community, not one non-profit doing
better than the other. We need to
build camaraderie in the community, and thats not about one or-

ganization beating down another;

thats about all coming together
and having fun raising awareness
while distributing the opportunities and money evenly, Sailer
said.
All proceeds from the run will
go to the education foundation,
while the business sponsorships
are split among the foundations
and Cub Scouts.
