The sequence of operations is described below using the

workpiece illustrated on the opposite page (3-2) as a
representative example.

The workpiece

- is machined outside and inside,

- is given the outside contour of the geometry elements
cylinder / taper / circle
- and the inside contour of a contour definition
- and is given a metric thread on the outside.

The Graphic Programming System AutoTurn as from SW 4

has been extended to include the following functions:

Extended blank
shapes

With the function "Free definition" you can define any

blank using all the options available for creation of a
finished part geometry:
Cylinder / Taper / Circle / Contour / Compensation
If your blank has an equidistant allowance
around the finished part contour
you can define the blank geometry with the function
"Allowance finished part instead of using the free
definition function.

Face end
machining

In addition to the finished part geometry contours

outside / inside
available until now,
three additional contour planes are suggested:
Face end right
Face end left
Peripheral
You can program holes, thread holes, slots and free
contours (pockets, islands, open contours) on each of these
three new contour planes.

Construction
geometries

Using construction geometries the Graphic Programming

System AutoTurn calculates unknown contour points from
construction lines and circles.
You can use this function, for example, to produce a free
pocket contour initially using construction geometries and
then put together the desired contour that you actually wish
to machine from selected geometry elements.

Coupling to
CAD systems

The CAD coupling is used to process complex parts, which

were constructed by the customer by means of CAD
systems, by applying AutoTurn.
CAD information must be saved in the form of DXF files.
AutoTurn reads in these DXF files and filters
the customer-specific information such as dimensions
and shading etc. from this file.
This saves programming for unmachined part and finished
product processing. The data are stored in the Clipboard.
