If the reality of global climate change has not extended winter weather, by the time you receive this newsletter warmer weather should be the norm. That is my hope, at any rate
that warm weather has brought on sunny days and daffodils. Hope springs eternal for those
of us who enjoy flowers. Whatever the situation, 21 March (the first day of Spring) has already come and gone and we are in Holy Week!
Was the Resurrection morning adorned with such flowers of hope? When Jesus was raised
from the dead, did lilies line the pathways to the tomb? Most likely not; though lilies are indigenous to the Near East, and Narcissus as well, people didnt adorn the cemeteries and graveyards with
flowers like we do today. What did line the way to Jesus empty tomb, however, was a band of women who
intended to anoint Jesus dead body with spices.
Hope had been lost. Time was up for Jesus; he had been in the tomb for a few days, and his body had begun to decompose. Its gruesome to think about, but thats the reality of death. All too painful is the loss of
hope in the hearts of the spice bearers: all they had hoped for in Jesus was gone; hope had died. What they
did not expect, however, was an empty tomb and a rolled away stone. The women had hoped to find a
body, and a sealed tomb.
How often God has done the same with our lives: we reenact Jesus Passion in our lives, and do not expect
God to raise us up from the pit of hell to which we have been handed over. When the proverbial bad things
happen to good people, we wonder, Where is God? As followers of Jesus, we know how Jesus comes out
in the end, but too often, we consign that to a magical act that has no meaning in daily life only in the life
to come. What difference does Jesus resurrection make in my life today? thats the question we should be
asking.
Indeed, Jesus died he was not merely dead he was very sincerely dead (to borrow words from L. Frank
Baum). With him dies all the hope that you and I have in everything in which we place our hope money,
power, prestige, nationalism. In his resurrection, our eyes open to a new world that places our hope in God
who suffers with us, God who has power to change even our darkest moments of hell to paradise. The flowers that spring forth at this time of year crocuses, daffodils, tulips they all remind us of hope buried deep
in the ground for a time; hope that cannot be killed by snow, cold, hell, destruction, bleakness. Spring reminds us of the new life, new birth that God grants each of us through the death and resurrection of Jesus,
the Messiah the reason for the season, the reason we celebrate each Sunday!
God grant you a joy-filled and joyful Paschal Season! God give you new eyes to see the beauty of the hope
that lay dormant within you for too long! Sing a new song to the LORD!

NEWS FOR WOMEN OF THE ELCA

The 2015 Synodical Convention will be June 20 at
St Marks Lutheran Church in Bowling Green. The
theme is A Celebration of Generations. The convention will open with worship led by Pastor
Cathy Schibler, Assistant to the Bishop. Speakers
include Karen Voris from Eagle River Alaska who
is a representative from churchwide Women of
the ELCA, Ivy Nehls and Kiesa Schwochow. The
luncheon speaker is the director of The Daughter
Project whose purpose is to help survivors recover from the trauma of sex trafficking and to
help prevent others from being trafficked.

The Maumee Valley spring assembly will be April

18 at St Stephen Lutheran in Hamler. The speaker will be Robert Rogers who will inspire us to
Live a Life of No Regrets. Mr Rogers lost his
wife and four children in a flash flood in Kansas in
2003. Through his immediate trust in God, he has
risen above adversity and shares his compelling
message.

February 19, 2015
A Loads of Love - Free Laundry day will be held on Sunday, March 22, from 1-3 pm at Spin City.
March of Love a love offering of designated items for the House of Ruth will take place during the 5 Sundays in March.
The Annual Chili Cook off will be held on Sunday, March 15, following worship.
The deadline for Endowment Fund grant requests is April 1, 2015.
A Community Drug Awareness Forum is being planned for April date to be determined.
Wednesday Lent Offerings are designated to the House of Ruth.
Connie Allgire will be assisting with Zions web page.
SUNDAY SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
We have several opportunities for Zions young people to be involved

with upcoming church events.
Palm SundayMarch 29th the children will join Pastor as he leads
the procession with palm leaves.
Easter SundayApril 5th our young people will make their offer of
new creation (butterflies) to the Easter celebration during the procession. We will find the Alleluia
Banner. After church the children will enjoy searching for Easter Eggs in the Prayer Garden. Pray
for a beautiful weather day!
Mothers DayMay 10th all Mothers will be recognized...surprise!
PentecostMay 24th we will offer a unique interpretation of what is Pentecost.
Holy Trinity May 31st we will share our concept in song and action about the Holy Trinity.
Fathers Day June 21st we will recognize our Fathers.
As you can see we have many chances to share how important the Church Year is to each of us and
how it provides the glue of what being a Christian means. WE HOPE AS MANY CHILDREN AS POSSIBLE CAN BE PRESENT FOR THESE EVENTS. SEE YOU AT ZIONS LUTHERAN!
LIBRARY NEWS
The book "25 Gifts: How a Month of Giving Can Change Your Life" by Cami Walker and donated by
Chris and Randy Yoder has been placed in the church library. This book makes you more aware of
the fact that the little things you do can make a difference in the daily lives of others.
If you would like to read the books that Zions Book Club is reading, they will be placed in the library
(usually monthly as they are completed). Right now the books "The Goldfinch" by Donna Tartt and
"The Orphan Train" by Christina Baker Kline are available in the library.

DEACON SUPPORT TEAM

All members should be aware of their deacon and hopefully have met him or her to discuss any
concerns or questions you may have had. Your deacons have a sincere interest in serving your needs
and encourage you to bring your needs to the attention of Pastor, the deacon group or council whichever is appropriate. In turn, we trust you have an equally sincere interest in getting to know your deacon as a present and future friend and confidant. We also want to emphasize the importance of
speaking with Pastor whenever the need arises. He wants to know your concerns to help provide a
solution or answers to your questions. He remains the best resource within our congregation to share
wisdom and knowledge.
Deacons are not exempt from having a deacon of their own. At times we need someone willing
to listen and we turn to our deacon. In our bi-monthly meetings, the nine deacons discuss a variety of
topics concerning the spiritual welfare of the congregation. Most importantly we are available for you
when your needs might require someone to talk with other than Pastor Tim.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the members of Zions Lutheran Church and we encourage you to reach out to your deacon whenever the need arises. Please call the church office for
any assistance.

Zions Lutheran is known for its mission to rally around those in need. Recently I was the
recipient of the Zions Rally and I must say it is a most heart warming experience. Most
appreciated were visits by Pastor Tim and members along with numerous cards, verbal expressions, and genuine concern shown by members living as a Child of God. THANK
YOU for including me in your mission to care for others. I must remember to thank my
family for their hovering and provision for needs. I am truly blessed! Pass it on!

summer opportunities for our youth. TAKE A LOOK!
Community Vacation Bible School will once again be held at Defiance College July 6-10, 2015
from 6:00 8:30 p.m. There are four churches that are sponsoring this event and if any of you are
available to help please contact the church office or Audrey Eis (419-438-4947 or [email protected]) to offer your services. You may volunteer for one day or the whole week!

Summer Camp Registration Guide for Lutheran Hills, Lutherwald, and Lake Luther, in or near Angola, Indiana. Starting June 14... various camps will be held for all age groups.

Loads of Love Laundry Day Report
Our second Loads of Love Free Laundry Day was held on Sunday,
March 22. During the 2 hour time span, we supplied money and detergent for 38 loads of laundry. Spin City Laundromat was a busy
place! Lets keep it going !!
