Dear Friends in Christ,

The death of an elderly client touched a man deeply. The man
did handy work for the older man but the rela onship became
more of a friendship over me. The older gentleman became a
mentor to the younger one who became a companion to the
elder. The elder died and his younger friend was surprised
how much his death aected him. He mourned this man more
than he did his own father! He didnt know why, but he decided that is was
because they had become family. At a funeral this fall at St. Peter Claver
mourners shared that the deceased created rela onships and family wherever he
found himself. Friends and loved ones would miss his formal and informal
families.
This weekend in the Christmas Season we celebrate the Feast of the Holy
FamilyJesus, Mary and Joseph. It should not surprise us that the Lord chose to
reveal himself to the world in the context of a family, a rela onship. Some mes,
people whose family is less than tradi onal may feel awkward or less than while
celebra ng the Feast of the Holy Family. They should not! Mary, Joseph and
Jesus were far from a normal family. And thank God they were. Todays Feast
should inspire us to celebrate families in the way that our deceased parishioner
didhe created families and rela onships wherever he found himself.

Dear Lord,
We pray that this New Year will bring us closer to You.
May we take the me to get to know You.
Help us to truly celebrate the gi s You have graciously given us
and use them to serve You and spread Your word,

Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and

Joseph
Imagine: three New Years celebrations in
little over a month! In late November, Advent
began the new liturgical year; December 8, the
Jubilee Year of Mercy; this coming Friday, the
New Year 2016. In todays Gospel, after three days of
anguish, Mary tells Jesus how desperately she and Joseph
have been searching for him. Mary could be speaking for the
whole human race. With religious persecutions raging,
international and domestic conflicts seething, our family and
friends suffering various difficulties, not to mention our own
personal problems, how much our world needs Jesus as another New Year veiled in mystery begins! As we pray for
Gods mercy to enfold our world and embrace each of us in
2016, let our New Years resolution be to live the Jubilee
Year of Mercy by being for others, as Mary was, a channel of
Gods mercy and an instrument of Christs peace.

Fr. Franks Advent Course. Please bring a covered dish.
The Eucharist cannot be lived in isola on. Like all the sacraments
we are called together and we celebrate with each other. We arm
each other as sons and daughters of God celebra ng with joy who
we are as a people of the Gospel. For as scripture says, all of us are
made in the image and likeness of the Creator. The Eucharist, by
our ac ve par cipa on, ins lls in each of us the dignity and respect
we have for each other, the equality that we express in the One
Bread and the One Cup of Christ and the inclusiveness of the table
where all are welcome, as we do this in memory of Me.

A VIRTUS class has been scheduled in our area at Sacred
Heart Church for January 7th from 6:00 pm. This training is
required for Safe Environment Compliance for any adult
who will come into contact with youth as part of their
ministry (a lis ng of those ministries can be found at

they begin ministry. We also invite adults who are not
currently volunteers to a end this training to learn tools
they can use to help keep children safe. Sea ng is limited

Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14
In addi on to the virtues that must characterize the conduct
toward God, there are the du es toward others and
par cularly toward our parents. Such virtues and a tudes
bring blessings with them. Elderly and sick parents are owed
our respect, must be cared for, and in this manner our sins
are forgiven. Not to give them such respect is blasphemy and
deserves to be cursed by God.
Colossians 3:12-21
Paul indicates that the eects of Bap sm are to be clothed in
Christ, which has moral consequences: clothe yourself with
compassion, kindness, humility
Luke 2:41-52
The focus of this story has
to do with an incident during the infancy of Jesus that
is unique in the canonic tradi on of the gospel. It
shows Jesus in the role of a
young Jew fulfilling his obliga ons and respec ng his
tradi ons. With this episode
the narra ve of the infancy
of Jesus closes in the same
place it began: in the temple of Jerusalem.
Homily Reflec on
There comes a dicult me in the life of every parent
around the world and it is allowing our children to make
their own decisions and follow their own ways. In a country
that is not our na ve home, things can o en become even
more complicated when our children grow away from the
Hispanic values and tradi ons we highly treasure. We may
have the tendency to be overly protec ve or go with the low
of the society that surrounds us. The truth is that the line
between properly protec ng our children and allowing them
to live their own life is very thin. We talk a lot today about
crea ng a voca on culture, in other words a religious, family,
and social environment in which the calls from God are
considered and where the family encourages the children to
follow his ways, and later respect and support their
decisions. This is not very easy.

For Reflec on
Do I harbor dreams for my children but have not confirmed if this
is what they want for themselves? Do I try to convince them of
my vision, even if they express the desire to do something else?
Would I respect the voca on to dedicate their life to religious life,
priesthood, or lay commitment from any of my children?

La vida familiar es sagrada,
pero no faltan las dificultades.
Este puede ser el mensaje ms
importante que encontramos en
las lecturas de hoy. Si Jess,
Mara y Jos pueden tropezar de
vez en cuando es conectarse
entonces no nos debe sorprender cuando eso mismo nos ocurre a nosotros tambin. Y los
padres dondequiera que estn
(hijos tambin) pueden ver el
parecido y hasta consolarse
con el relato bblico que habla
de Mara y Jos despus de que
Jess les explica porqu se qued atrs en el templo. Escucharon sus palabras, nos dice Lucas,
pero ellos no comprendieron lo
que les acababa de decir (Lucas 2:50). Amn! Sin
embargo, Jess s se va con ellos
para la casa, y con na creciendo bajo su cuidado.

La muerte de un cliente de edad

avanzada toc a un hombre profundamente. El hombre haca trabajo manuales para un
hombre de ms edad, pero la relacin se hizo ms
amistosa con el tiempo. El seor mayor se convirti en un mentor para el joven que se
convirti en un compaero para el anciano. El
anciano muri y su amigo ms joven se sorprendi
de lo mucho que su muerte lo afect. l lament la
muerte de este hombre ms que su propio padre! El
no sabe el por qu, pero l decidi que era porque
se haban convertido en una familia. En el funeral
este otoo en San Pedro Claver los dolientes
compartieron que el cre relaciones familiares
donde quiera. Amigos y seres queridos extraarn
sus familias formales e informales.
Este fin de semana en la temporada de
Navidad celebramos la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia: Jess, Mara y Jos. No debera sorprendernos
que el Seor escogi para revelarse al mundo en el
contexto de una familia, una relacin. A veces, las
personas cuya familia son menos tradicionales
pueden sentirse incmodo o menos, durante la celebracin de la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia. Ellos
no deberan sentirnos as! Mara, Jos y Jess estaban lejos de ser una familia normal.
Y gracias a Dios que ellos lo eran. Hoy, es una
fiesta que nos inspirar para celebrar con todos las
familias en la forma como nuestro miembro fallecido lo hizo el cre familias y relaciones donde
quiera que l se encontraba.

Ao Jubilar de la Misericordia

Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia

Imagina: tres celebraciones de Ao Nuevo en
el transcurso de menos de un mes!, al final de
noviembre, con el Adviento empez el Nuevo Ao
Litrgico; luego el 8 de diciembre, el Ao Jubilar de la
Misericordia y este viernes que viene, el Ao Nuevo
2016. En el Evangelio de hoy, despus de tres das de
angustia, Mara le dice a Jess lo preocupada que ella y
Jos haban estado buscndolo. Mara podra estar
hablando por toda la humanidad. Con violentas persecuciones religiosas, conflictos nacionales e internacionales en plena ebullicin, nuestra familia y amigos sufriendo de varias dificultades, sin mencionar nuestros
propios problemas personales, qu tanto nuestro mundo
necesita a Jess como otro Nuevo Ao empieza cubierto
de misterio! Al orar por que la misericordia de Dios se
muestre a nuestro mundo y envuelva a cada uno de nosotros este 2016, que las resoluciones este Ao Nuevo
vivan el Ao Jubilar de la Misericordia para los dems,
como Mara fue, un instrumento de la misericordia de

help!
As the weather gets cooler, the
families we serve need warm clothes for
their young children. We would appreciate dona ons of boys
clothes, sizes 12 months to size 10; and girls clothes, size 2
through size 8. We are especially in need of pants for boys (and
girls too).
If you do not have gently used clothes to donate and
would like to help otherwise, we suggest diapers sizes 4 and 5
and pull ups. Thank you for helping those in our community who
need our assistance.

VIRTUS
The VIRTUS "Protec ng God's Children for
Adults" is required for all who provide either
paid or volunteer ministry in our Diocese
who in the course of their ministry come into
contact with minors. This includes parish
ministries such as Sacristans, Lectors,
Ushers, and Eucharis c Ministers. Space is
limited and registra on is required by

REGISTER We are very glad you are here at
St. Peter Claver. If you would like to make St. Peter
Claver your home Parish, please complete a Parish
Census Form (available in the parish oce and
ves bule in back of the church) and either mail or
place in oertory basket at Mass. Persons wishing to
transfer membership from another Catholic parish are
also asked to complete a census form.

REGISTER FOR ST. PETER CLAVER SCHOOL Our

school accommodates children from K3 through 8th
grade. If you would like to register your child in our
school, please call (478) 743-3985.
