On-line Homework sets that will be accessible to you without charge. The web address
will be posted on D2L at the proper time. This is a green course; hence, no homework
except assignment 1 will be accepted on paper.

Engineering paper (8" x 11"), this can be purchased from the College Store and the
Student Bookstore. You must have this by the end of the first week of class. All quizzes
must be submitted on full page engineering paper. No partial page will be accepted.

Communication
Again, this is a Green course; there will be a minimum amount of paper handed out by the
instruction team. Your scores will be posted on D2L where you can view them at your
convenience. For the communication process to run smoothly, be sure that your
UNIVERSITY ASSIGNED email ADDRESS and ID are fully functional.
Class, Office Hours and Help Desk Hours
All classes for Section 001 will be held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 to
8:50 am in room 137 Akers. Classes for Section 002 will be held on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday from 9:10 to 10:00 am in room 137 Akers. For both sections, the class web
site can be found at d2l.msu.edu.
The instruction team office hours are listed below. Additional hours will be available by
appointment (email or phone). As a rule, the instruction team will honor the office hours,
however there will be instances when the office hours will be changed due to other
unforeseen commitments. In such cases, advanced notice will be given or posted.

All homework assignments except the first one must be submitted on line. The first
homework only should be submitted on engineering paper and will be collected in class on
the due date posted on the homework assignment. The remaining homework will be graded
online. If you submit all your homework correctly and no error, your homework score at the
end of the semester will be zero, otherwise, it could be negative up to ten percent.
Unannounced quizzes will be administered during classes. Questions on quizzes will be
based on the materials that were covered in the current and previous lectures and the assigned
reading materials. No make-up quiz will be allowed without prior written excuse approved
by Dr. Baladi. A written excuse could be a doctor note, a sport note or other official notes
related to functional duties.
All tests are comprehensive and will be administered during the assigned class hour. No
make-up test will be allowed unless you have a prior excuse approved by Dr. Baladi. All
excuses must be supported by a written note.

At the end of the semester, your final grade will be assigned based on your cumulative
points and the following straight scale (The grade will not be curved):

Homework Assignments & Practice Problems

One or more homework will be assigned each week. It is expected that the submitted
assignments will reflect the individual not group effort.
Each homework is due by the assigned time posted on the homework. In general, you
should be able to access the HW after 12:00 noon each Wednesday and the homework is
due at 12:00 noon the following Wednesday. No late homework will be accepted
without a previously approved excuse.

MISSING QUIZZES, TESTS AND FINAL EXAM POLICY
If you think you will miss a quiz, a test or the final exam due to medical or other emergency
reasons, you need to inform Dr. Baladi by phone or e-mail prior to the class time. You also
need to bring to class a written excuse properly signed by the excusing authority such as
doctors, judge, coach, and so forth. Test make-up arrangements will be assigned after
evaluating the excuse on a case-by-case basis.
In case you need to miss a class, you need to email your Lead TA, Nan Hu [email protected]
and copy Dr. Baladi, [email protected] before the start of the class. Late excuses will not
be accepted.
Ethics and Academic Honesty
ALL CE 221 Participants must adhere to the rigorous code of professional ethics. Unethical
conduct in CE or ME 221 will result in the maximum disciplinary action permitted by the
University. Unethical conduct in this course includes, but is not limited to, cheating in
exams, supplying information to others during exams or quizzes, and/or copying homework.
If you have any questions, your instructor is available to discuss issues of professional
expectations and ethics.
Cellular Phone Policy

Your cellular phone must be set on vibration mode during all classes.

All phones must be turned off during tests and quizzes. Violation implies zero grade on
that test or quiz without discussion.
