Tempered
During the tempering process, glass sheets are heated up to approximately 700 C
and then to a cooled roughly with an air stream at room temperature (approximately 24C). The result is a glass, able to support mechanical stresses higher than
the glasses without tempering. These glasses are classified as safety glasses because
they reduce the breakage risk caused by external agents or by temperature
changes. In case of a breakage, the glass fragments sizes reduce the risk of severe
lesions. Once tempered, the glass cannot be subject to any other processes like
cutting, notching or perforation.
This application is very common in construction industry where maximum safety products are
needed. They are used in floating facades, building lobbies, offices and shower divisions, showcases, etc. It is also used to cover rugs, covers for
furniture and others..
RAW MATERIAL
The raw material used is float glass, which has
better quality than the one obtained by any
other method. In float glass, the thickness is
porous throughout the length of the sheet,
which is an important requirement for a tempering process to avoid heating differences due
to the changes in thickness.
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
INSULATED PROPERTIES
The amount of heat that can go thru a wall is a
function of its thickness and the coefficients of
superficial thermal changes. These coefficients,
will depend on the temperature conditions and
the air flow on internal and external surfaces.
