We are entering the season of the year that is usually the busiest for churches and
individuals. Thanksgiving will be here in just a few short weeks and the Christmas season
follows immediately after that. During this time there will be numerous family gatherings,
huge meals to cook, travel to plan and carry out, parties to plan and attend and shopping to
do. There will also be Thanksgiving and Christmas activities at church music to prepare,
individuals and families to help, special worship services. This is the time of year that more
people come to church and think about Jesus Christ. These are all good things. They can be
exciting. They can be productive. And they can sometimes become almost overwhelming.
Over the next few weeks, we will be completing the shoeboxes for Operation Christmas
Child; we will be buying gifts and ministering to children of people incarcerated in our
prisons; we will be providing gifts for children at Missouri Baptist Childrens Home and we
will help provide for missionaries all around the world through the Lottie Moon Christmas
Offering. Please dont let all of these projects stress you. God calls us to experience joy
through helping others and not feel burdened by the process.
We are in the middle of a Sunday morning message series about Gods grace. My
prayer is that you are coming to understand how magnificent Gods grace is. I truly believe
that the better we understand Gods grace, the more we can enjoy the Christian life. As we
approach Thanksgiving, we will be looking at Restoring Grace (how to find your lost joy),
Transforming Grace (how God changes the way you think), Growing in Grace (how to
become what youre meant to be), and finally Living in Gods Amazing Grace (how to
give thanks to God for His grace by living as God calls and empowers us to live).
The seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas are meant to be seasons of great joy. They
should fill us with gratitude to God for all of the many blessings of life the greatest of
which was the incarnation that we celebrate at Christmas. This time of year reminds us that
God loves us more than life itself. Lets look for ways to let God fill us with His strength. In
the midst of the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving and Christmas, remind yourself that God
promises us all of the strength and energy we need to serve Him.
As always, I urge you to encourage each other. Look for ways to help each other. Look
for the good that God is doing at Salem and not the bad that Satan is trying to do. Pray for
your church leaders your deacons, Sunday school teachers, missions and ministry leaders,
support staff, worship team. And if you have time left after praying for them, please pray for
me that God will give me the wisdom to lead and preach His Truth as is most needed at
Salem.
I want to encourage you to find ways to show Gods love to the people in your life.
Find ways to let God use you to breathe new life and energy into Salem Baptist Church.
Blessings,
Pastor Derald

We would like to thank all who participated in the MMO offering. The goal was $600
and our final offering amount was $815. Good Job!!!
Dont forget our Samaritans Purse shoe-box party on November 5th, 2014. Well be
having a soup and sandwich meal followed by decorating the boxes and filling them with the
many items that you have been donating all year. We also could use more wrapped hard
candy and rolls of Christmas paper. If you have not donated to this project and would like to
do so, we must have postage of $7.00 per box. For 25 boxes the required amount is
$175.00.
The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering donation will be starting at the end of
November. The week of prayer will be November 30th thru December 7th. The
congregation voted at the October business meeting to set a goal of $800.00.
We will be collecting items for the Childrens Home until December 15th,
2014. Please see the list on the bulletin board. There will be a box in the foyer for these
items.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from
it. Proverbs 22:6.
How do we reach the children in our community? We must look to God for ways to
meet the parents, because as we know children can not come to church by themselves. I am
writing this before the Childrens Planning Meeting to be held on October 29th. My desire is
to plan around families. It doesnt matter what age we are everyone needs the Lord. May
you truly take time to enjoy your family and honor our Lord Jesus during this holiday season.
