In order to encourage our pupils to gain a greater understanding of the world and its many cultures, we have
made links with schools in countries around the world. Communication with children overseas gives our pupils
real access to other cultures and compliments their learning.
ITALY: In November 2013 Mrs Saghir, Mrs Malik and Mrs Kaur went to Milan as part of our Comenius cul-
tural projectWar and Peace. They were joined by four childrenMaaria, Isha, Aleysha and Nabiha. They
visited Milan and went to the Scoula Elementare Brocchi. They learnt a great deal about life in Italy and they
were really surprised that the school was so different from our school. All the children and staff in Italy
welcomed them so kindly that they felt like star guests for the whole week.

FRANCE: In January 2014 Mr Aldred, Miss Spittle and Mr Chardin, Adam, Unais, Nuh and Muneeb from year
5 all flew to Bordeaux in France. The purpose of the visit was to meet up with children and teachers involved
in the European Forgotten Values Comenius project. The children gave a wonderful presentation at the
school about traditional British foods and encouraged others to taste food from the UK. We gave everyone
short bread biscuits, Marmite and Cadburys chocolate. The chocolate was a big hit with everyone! We also
tasted foods from all over Europe. We went to the city of Bordeaux and looked around its beautiful streets
and buildings. We had an evening of traditional French dance and we all joined in dances and were fed won-
derful French food. The visit was a wonderful opportunity for us all to spend time in a beautiful country with
fantastic teachers and children from all over Europe.
SPAIN: Mrs Saghir, Ms Cohen-Dunkley, and Mrs Evans took a group of children to Spain to visit a school
called CEIP Maria Zambrano in a city called Mijas Costa. The children selected to represent the school and
the UK were Haleema, Isha, Madiyha and Zahra. The group spent time at the school and were warmly
welcomed by the children staff and local dignitaries. The children took designs for the project logo competi-
tion and had to explain their reasons for designing it. They also were asked to present about Peace across
Europe. and The children and staff really enjoyed the warm friendly hospitality they received in Spain
POLAND: In June 2011 as part of the War and Peace project Mr Aldred and Mr Sheikh took two year 6 boys
to Tychy in Poland. The boys chosen were Abi and Sameen and they both represented the UK and our school
fantastically well. The purpose of the visit was to understand the way in which Poland had been involved in
European wars and how the area of Silesia was split by having close links with Germany and Poland. The
children were involved in putting on a play in English which told us this story and it was performed brilliantly.
Sameen and Abi made a presentation about British peacemakers and they talked about Bob Geldof and John
Lennon. The visit was amazing and the children got on really well together with our host Polish children really
working hard to make us feel welcome.
UGANDA: In 2011 we established a Global School Partnership with Namagunga Primary Boarding School in
Kampala, Uganda. Reciprocal visits were carried out in 2011/2012, with two of our staff visiting Uganda in
November 2011 and the head teacher and deputy from Uganda visiting our school in March 2012. During
these visits, joint curriculum work was planned for the next two academic years. Funding for this partnership
continued last year and we managed to arrange a visit to Uganda for two of our staff. The staff attending
were Mr Sheikh and Mr Loane. Mr Sheikh wanted to see how the Ugandan school organised their outdoor
education and Mr Loane was particularly interested in their Music education. The visit was a great success
and Mr Loane said it was one of the best experiences of his working life.
