esaStila is a retreat that incorporates an unparalleled collection of remarkable
antiques and enchanting buildings; including a Colonial railway station; historic
Joglo-villas with a true wellness experience.
The property has twenty-three unique villas set within an area of twenty-two hectares
of outstanding natural beauty; surrounded by cooling highland-air, eight mountains,
tropical gardens and lush vegetation. Built within a charming coffee plantation
producing up to seven tons of coffee a year, the true magnicence of MesaStila is in
its spectacular setting and its Hammam Spa.
MesaStila encompasses six elements of Wellness: Nutritional Excellence, Culture &

A Balanced Retreat
Many guests nd a pleasant pastime in touring the
coffee plantation and discovering the principles
behind harvesting and cultivating coffee. Nature
enthusiasts may also partake in guided jungle
treks and mountain biking tours. Tennis is available
in the property, and the ClubHouse lawn proves
to be a relaxing location for a game of chess,
hit-about croquet, or to take a meditative walk
on the reexology path & labyrinth. More active
guests may nd a variety of adventures - with
exceptional cycling routes, inspiring running trails
and dedicated packages that will entice even the
strongest mountain hikers.
Guests can immerse themselves in a truly
authentic Javanese experience, exploring many of
the surrounding shrines and temples; including
the Hindu temples of Prambanan, or a magnicent
sunrise / sunset at Borobudur, the worlds largest
Buddhist temple. Inspirations in culture may be
found with a visit to a simple traditional Javanese-
village, or spending time planting rice with local
farmers; seeing the sawah (rice paddies) while
riding a typical pony-and-cart trap, which villagers
use for going to the market. Further explorations
can be found in jungle trekking and serious hikes
up nearby mountains.

The Spa, Hammam
& Healthy Lifestyle Experiences
The Turkish-style HammamSpa is the only one in
Asia, comprising of four couple treatment rooms,
a beauty salon, and separate male and female
Hammam areas, each consists of warm and cool
rooms, a cold plunge pool and a steamroom.
The spa menu includes Jade and Tuina facials,
Tibetan singing-bowl rituals, and body treatments
inspired by classic and contemporary healing
rituals fromAsia and the Near East.
The signature service includesthe enlightening
Turkish hammam experience, a combination
of a steam therapy, gommage, soapy cleanse,
massage and hair wash, followed by a restorative
Javanese traditional massage.
In addition to spa services, daily sunrise
yoga at the SasanaYoga Pavilion is available for
all levels. Fitness and adventure enthusiasts can
also enjoy the tness center, a jungle-gym, TRX,
aqua-t, power walks, more intensive jungle and
mountain treks, as well as an abundance of trail-
running, road cycling and mountain-biking. The
traditional martial art of Pencak Silat is taught by
a highly-regarded local instructor.

Retreat Guidelines
Modern travelers are becoming more discerning
- looking for experiences beyond simply room &
breakfast. To these passionate travellers, inspired
by aspects of their life journey, MesaStila offers an
opportunity for personal growth and realizations
about wellbeing, together with remarkable cultural
and historical experiences.
1. To encourage a focus on health, smoking is
permitted only in specific public-areas of the
retreat. Smoking is permitted also on the balcony/
veranda of guest villas.
2. To preserve a peaceful environment, the use of
mobile phones is not allowed within the areas of
Spa, Swimming Pool and Java Green Wellness
Cuisine Restaurant. The discrete use of SMS
and tablets are permitted throughout the retreat;
while lap-top computers may be used in specific
areas only.
3. The cuisine offers Javanese flavors with a healthy
emphasis. Using local and organic produce;
nutritious, unprocessed foods; healthy cooking
techniques; fish and a limited use of meat from
ecologically responsible farmers.

Villas
Each of the twenty-three unique heritage villas
have been brought from other sites around Java
and reconstructed, on site, in their original Limasan
or Joglo form. These wooden villas encompass
modern facilities and are decorated with original
antiques and modern furnishings. All villas offer
a large living area and outdoor veranda, with
breathtaking views across the coffee plantation,
biodiversity jungle or surrounding volcanoes.
In-room villa facilities and amenities comprise
individual air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, television, a
coffee maker, security box, healthy mini-bar,
slippers, bathrobes, yoga suits and home-spa
toiletries.
Facilities
The Labyrinth & Reexology Walk
To start the wellness experience guests are asked
to sound a gong and walk bare foot on the labyrinth.
This labyrinth shaped reexology walk consists of
thousands of smoothpebbles in different patterns
to stimulate and massage all the reex points on
the soles of the feet in various ways it demands a
focus of being in the present; a captivating start to
the wellness journey.
The Club House - 1928 Original Dutch Mansion
This original coffee plantation mansion was built
in the 1920s by the rst plantation owner Gustav
Van Der Swan. It has been completely restored and
furnished with a collection of Javanese antique
furniture and paintings. The Club House is a place
of refuge - on its wide verandas, afternoon tea is
served and wellness classes are held. Being at
the highest point of the retreat, guests can enjoy
stunning sunsets overlooking the mountains of
Sindoro and Sumbing. Inside the open air library, a
collection of books and other media are available.
The Mayong Station Reception
The wooden railway station, which serves as the
reception area, was brought into MesaStila one
stormy night by forty trucks; rebuilt here after
it was torn down to make way for a new road in
the town of Mayong, the hometown of Indonesian
heroine Kartini.
The Splash
Withanthe octagonal design, akintothe pools inthe
palaces of the Mataram Kingdom, this enchanting
space overlooks the jungle and onto the nearby
mountains of Andong, Merbabu and Merapi.
Culinary Delights
The culinary team offers a passionate collection of
recipes focusing on traditional Javanese avors,
prepared with a healthy twist. Dishes incorporate
local and organic produce, healthy cooking
techniques, and low-fat-low-GI ingredients for a
nutritious menu predominately offering seafood
and sh with a few meat dishes.
The culinary delights may be enjoyed in a
variety of locations - on a day bed by the swimming
pool; in a casual dining restaurant overlooking
the jungle greenery and majestic mountains; in
a heritage coffee-warehouse; at the site of the
coffee production process, and on a wide expanse
of farm-gardens on the lower slopes of a nearby
mountain.
A popular culinary experience is MesaStilas
cooking class, that caters to a variety of tastes, and
different levels of expertise. The essential element
of these cooking classes is to offer insights into
healthy cooking, as well as learning the intricacies
of Javanese cuisine.
