BODY SCRUB & MOISTURISER TREATMENT MANUAL

To perform the spa treatment in a professional manner and provide the client with a
Objective satisfying spa experience.
Policy • Spa Therapist are to deliver all spa treatments in a professional manner
• Spa therapist are to ensure clients are comfortable during the treatment
• Spa therapist are to request help if they feel uncomfortable
• The body scrub procedure must be followed

Products list • Scrub product


• Body moisturizer
• 4 bath towels
• 3 hand towels
• 1 bath mat
• 1 linen sheet or disposable paper sheet
• 1 bowl for the scrub
• Eye pillow
• Head pillow

Notes Technique
• Stay at least 5 centimeters away from the clients top inner thigh as this is an
extremely intimate and sensitive area
• Do not repeatedly scrub over the same section of skin
• If the client says the scrubbing is painful, add more water to the scrub and apply it
slower and more lightly
Procedure Introduction
1. Assist the client to the bed
2. Hold a bath towel up between you and the client to maintain their modesty
3. Say “Please place your robe on the end of the bed and lie face down
4. Once they are on the bed, cover them with the towel.
5. Take their robe and place it on the hook/chair
6. 6. Ask if the temperature of the room comfortable?”
7. Continue or adjust accordingly
8. Ask female clients “would you like your abdomen and chest scrubbed today?”and
note their answer
9. Place a shower cap around their hair and ask if it is comfortable, helping them to
adjust it if not.
Back of legs
10. Uncover the left leg
11. Apply the scrub to the lower leg using full palm contact in circular movements
12. Ask “how is the pressure?”
13. Continue or adjust accordingly
14. Gently apply the scrub to the back of the knee using the thumbs in small circular
movements
15. Apply the scrub to the upper leg using full palm contact in circular movements.
Note, always stay at least five centimeters away for the top of the inner thigh
16. Cover the left leg
17. Uncover the right leg
18. Repeat the same massage process on the right leg
19. Cover the right leg
Back and Arms
20. Uncover the back, moving the towel down to the buttocks.
21. Stand next to the client’s head
22. Apply the scrub over the back in long effleurage sweeping movements
23. Massage the scrub in from the top of the back working from the spine out towards
the arms in circular movements, then down the back and around the hips
24. Apply the scrub to the left arm, from the hand to the shoulder in small circular
movements
25. Apply the scrub to the right from the hand to the shoulder in small circular
movements
26. Cover the back and arms

Turnover
27. Move the bolster pillow to the bottom of the bed
28. Get the head pillow and eye pillow and place them at the top of the bed near the
client’s head
29. Say, “Please turn over and lie on your back”.
30. Hold the towel up to maintain the client’s modesty
31. Once they are settled, cover them with the towel.
32. Place the head pillow under their head
33. Ask “Is the temperature of the room comfortable?”
34. Continue or adjust accordingly
35. Place the eye pillow gently over their eyes
36. Place the bolster pillow under the right knee

Front of Legs
37. Uncover the left leg
38. Apply the scrub to the lower leg using full palm contact in circular movements
39. Apply the scrub to the upper leg using full palm contact in circular movements.
Note, always stay at least five centimetres away for the top of the inner thigh.
40. Cover the left leg.
41. Uncover the right leg.
42. Repeat the same massage process on the right leg.
43. Cover the right leg.

Front of Arms
44. Uncover the left arm.
45. Apply the scrub to the left arm, from the hand to the shoulder in small circular
movements.
46. Gently apply the scrub over the left hand.
47. Cover the left arm.
48. Uncover the right arm.
49. Repeat the same process on the right arm.
50. Cover the right arm.

Abdomen (optional)
51. If the client wants their abdomen scrubbed, move the towel down to their hips and
cover the chest area with the hand towel.
52. Apply the scrub around the abdomen in a clockwise direction.
53. Cover the abdomen, arms and chest, removing the hand towel.

Chest (optional)
54. If the client wants their chest scrubbed, move the towel to expose the chest.
55. Stand at the head of the bed.
56. Apply the scrub to both sides of the chest area at the same time in small circular
movements, from the top of the sternum, down around under the breasts, out towards
armpits and back to the sternum.
57. Cover the chest.

Décolletage
58. Uncover the décolletage and shoulders.
59. Gently apply the scrub from the centre of the décolletage towards the shoulders in
small circular movements.
60. Cover the décolletage, leaving just the shoulders exposed.

Shoulders and Neck


61. Apply the scrub to the left shoulder in small circular movements.
62. Apply the scrub to the right shoulder in small circular movements.
63. Gently turn the client’s head to the right and apply the scrub up the left side of the neck
to the base of the skull in small circular movements.
64. Gently turn the client’s head to the left and apply the scrub up the right side of the neck
to the base of the skull in small circular movements.
65. Cover the shoulders.

Shower
66. Place your hand on the client’s right shoulder and say “I will go to prepare the shower.
Please rest for a couple of minutes”.
67. Turn on the water and wait until the temperature is appropriate.
68. Wet a hand towel.
69. Turn off the water.
70. Wring out the excess water from the hand towel.
71. Return to the client and wipe the scrub off the bottom of their feet with the damp hand
towel.
72. Remove the eye pillow.
73. Assist the client up to a sitting position on the bed.
74. Say “wrap the towel around you to go to the shower.”
75. Assist them off the bed and guide them to the shower slowly so they do not slip.
76. When you reach the shower, say “please wait a moment and I’ll just check the
temperature.”
77. Turn the water on and check the temperature again.
78. When the temperature is appropriate, say “it’s ready now. Step in and I can take your
towel?”
79. Take their towel.
80. Assist them to close the door.

Clean the Room


81. Dispose of the dirty towels and foil.
82. Remove the scrub bowl.
83. Clean the product spills off the floor.
84. Prepare the bed with fresh linen.

Return to the Bed


85. When the client is ready, assist them to the bed.
86. Hold a dry bath towel up between you and the client to maintain their modesty.
87. Say “please place your wet towel on the end of the bed and lie face down.”
88. Once they are on the bed, cover them with the towel.
89. Remove their wet towel.
90. Ask “is the temperature of the room comfortable?”
91. Continue or adjust accordingly.

Moisturiser – Back of Legs


92. Uncover the left leg.
93. Apply the moisturiser in long stokes from the foot to the top of the leg (x3). Note,
always stay at least five centimetres away for the top of the inner thigh.
94. From the foot, massage the leg in circular movements to the top of the leg.
95. Cover the left leg.
96. Uncover the right leg.
97. Repeat the same massage process on the right leg.
98. Cover the right leg.

Moisturiser – Back
99. Uncover the back, moving the towel down to the buttocks.
100. Stand next to the client’s head.
101. Effleurage the moisturiser down the centre of the back each side of the spine to the
buttocks, then up the outside of back and around the shoulders (x3).
102. On the left side, massage down the next to the spine, around the hips and buttocks,
then continue up the sides of the torso to the shoulders (x3).
103. On the right side, massage down the next to the spine, around the hips and buttocks,
then continue up the sides of the torso to the shoulders (x3).
104. Effleurage down the centre of the back each side of the spine, up the outside of back
and around the shoulders (x3).
105. Cover the back and arms.

Turnover
106. Get the head pillow and eye pillow and place them at the top of the bed near the
client’s head.
107. Say “please turn over and lie on your back.”
108. Hold the towel up to maintain the client’s modesty.
109. Cover them with the towel once they are settled.
110. Place the head pillow under their head.
111. Place the eye pillow gently over their eyes.

Moisturiser – Front of Legs


112. Uncover the left leg.
113. Apply the moisturiser in long stokes from the foot to the top of the leg (x3). Note,
always stay at least five centimetres away for the top of the inner thigh.
114. From the foot, massage the leg in circular movements to the top of the leg.
115. Cover the left leg.
116. Uncover the right leg.
117. Repeat the same massage process on the right leg.
118. Cover the right leg.

Front of Arms
119. Uncover the left arm.
120. Effleurage the moisturiser up the left arm, from the hand to the shoulder in a long
flowing movement (x3).
121. Massage around the arm in circular movements from the forearm to the elbow, then
the elbow to the shoulder.
122. Massage the hand.
123. Effleurage up the arm, from the hand to the shoulder in a long flowing movement.
124. Repeat the same massage process on the right arm.
125. Cover the right arm.

Abdomen (optional)
126. If the client had their abdomen scrubbed, move the towel down to their hips and cover
the chest area with the hand towel.
127. Effleurage the moisturiser around the abdomen in a clockwise direction (x3).
128. Cover the abdomen, arms and chest, removing the hand towel.

Chest (optional)
129. If the client had their chest scrubbed, move the towel to expose the chest.
130. Stand at the head of the bed.
131. Effleurage the moisturiser to both sides of the chest area at the same time, from the
top of the sternum, down around under the breasts, out towards armpits and back to the
sternum (x3).
132. Cover the chest.

Décolletage, Shoulders and Neck


133. Uncover the décolletage and shoulders.
134. Effleurage the moisturiser from the centre of the décolletage, towards and around the
shoulders, the back to the centre (x3).
135. Massage from the centre of the décolletage towards the shoulders in small circular
movements.
136. Effleurage the moisturiser from the shoulders up the sides of the neck to the base of
the skull, then back to the shoulders (x3). 137. Gently turn the client’s head to the right and
massage up the left side of the neck to the base of the skull in small circular movements.
138. Gently turn the client’s head to the left and massage up the right side of the neck to
the base of the skull in small circular movements. 139. Effleurage the moisturiser from the
centre of the décolletage, towards and around the shoulders, the back to the centre (x3).
140. Cover the décolletage and shoulders.

Finish
141. Place your hand on the client’s right shoulder and say “the treatment is finished. Please
rest for a couple of minutes”.
142. Get their robe and slippers.
143. After two minutes, say “how are you feeling?” If the client is fine, say “let me help you
to sit up”. If the client is not fine, ask why are they not feeling well and assist them
accordingly.
144. Assist the client up to a sitting position on the bed.
145. Hold the robe up between you and the client to maintain their modesty and assist
them to put it on.
146. Assist them to put their slippers on.
147. Assist them off the bed.
