Winnie Hohlt
Behind the scenes of the Festival, the Board of Directors are hard at
work making sure everything runs smoothly. One of these dedicated
members is Winnie Hohlt, the Vice Chairman of the Board. She
considers NHMF to be a valued experience in the heart of New
Hampshire.
She says, Musicians from across this country and around the
world come, play, meet the members of the audience and the
wider community. They ofer us glorious experiences as they work
together at each concert for 6 weeks each summer. Glorious!
As for her own personal connection with music, Hohlt began
listening to classical music at a very early age.
I cant remember not hearing it, and I know that my parents bought
a phonograph shortly after I was born to insure that recorded music
was available. Early on I loved the typical things ...The Nutcracker,
Bolero, which I am told I referred to as Drums & Horns, La Mer,
Shubert s The Trout, The Archduke Trio and of course, Peter & the
Wolf. Quite a mix.
In addition to being involved with NHMF, Winnie has made great
strides volunteering as Chair of Pease Public Librarys board of
trustees. She frst became involved upon her arrival in Plymouth in
June of 1995. Due to the eforts of Winnie and Director Katherine
Hillier, the library has been expanded and renovated to the building
that resides on Russell Street today.
Chairing the building committee for that project was one of the
most satisfying and challenging jobs of my life. We all worked so
hard and so closely for such a number of years, it was exhausting
and exhilarating, she says.
Hohlts passion and dedication for her volunteer work and work
for the Festival is truly apparent. She notes her most rewarding
thoughts regarding her work as also being the most daunting.
I believe we are right at the cusp; at the tipping point of a whole,
re-energized and wonderful forward-moving Festival. We have a
60+ year history and at the same time, we are at the beginning of an
evolving Festival that will keep music and the love thereof thriving
here in the lakes, mountains and beyond for many, many years to
come. This is a sensitive time.; one loaded with grand possibilities of
the care and commitment that are present.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
DORI DEARBORN
If youre in town, youre bound to have passed by or even stopped in for a bite at The Main Street Station. This little
train car diner in the center of town is the bustling breakfast spot serving locals and tourists every day. Owner Dori
Dearborn recently purchased the eatery in January of 2014 and is a local to the area herself. She says, I am a New
Hampshire native! I was born in Laconia and grew up in The Weirs and Meredith. I truly love this state.
In her middle and high school years, she enjoyed seasonal work as a short order cook. After arriving at Plymouth
State in the 1980s, she went to work for her family in the manufacturing feld. Recently, she sold that business and
felt the urge to return to the restaurant business. She bought the diner and says that returning to Plymouth is just
the topping on the ice cream.
So far, Dearborn has greatly enjoyed her time back in town. She has been welcomed back by students and locals
alike. In addition, she says she is glad to have met so many new friends from diferent states and countries,
expressing her joyful surprise that Plymouth is so busy in the summer!
As for music, Dearborn notes her most powerful musical experience as being able to see James Taylor when he
performed in town. Such a talented songwriter, musician and singer. He amazes me. Still going strong after all
these years, she says.
Dearborn also expressed her pleasure at being present for Make Music Plymouth, which took place downtown on
June 21. She notes the talent and fun that the event was able to bring to town.
So if youre hungry for some delicious breakfast conveniently located right on Main Street, look no further than The
Main Street Station! Dearborn gives the inside scoop on the best dish available.
Our best plate at the diner is The Sampler. Best buttermilk pancakes, French toast made with our home-baked
challah, eggs your way, sausage and bacon and your choice of home fries, homemade beans, or fresh fruit salad.
