KAITLIN DONOVAN
Sometimes, the most important people are the ones
behind the scenes! Kaitlin Donovan, Stage Manager for the
NH Music Festival, has been involved in the music scene
ever since the third grade, when she got her start singing
in her church choir. She says this was her beginning, but
that she hasnt stopped singing since.
An important member of the Festival, she makes sure all
the concerts and rehearsals run smoothly. She also attends
all run-out concerts, assists move-in and move-out for all
the musicians in the student apartments, and anything
else that needs to be done. She says, The musicians can
go to me with any stage-related questions and I make sure
that they are happy on stage and that we can have a great
concert!
Donovan says the frst moment in her life that made her a
music lover was all thanks to her father.
My Dad was probably the frst person to expose me to
music at a very young age. For as long as I can remember,
he would make me mix CDs of his favorite music and it
became one of my favorite things!
Donovan then found more love for music in her school.
I sang in musicals all through middle school and began
taking voice lessons in the eighth grade as I began taking
music more seriously. In addition to her love for singing,
she has also found enjoyment in experiencing new music
and teaching music.
As she grew up, Donovan began singing in high school
choirs, which she says reinforced her love for music in
diferent ways.
I loved performing as well as studying music. I was
amazed by my choral director and she encouraged me
to go to school for Music Education. Without my early
exposure to music, I probably never would have loved
music as much as I do now!
Some of her favorite musical artists include Ben Folds
and Mumford and Sons. She says her love for these artists
come from their emphasis on lyrics. Its beautiful poetry
that I personally connect with and can relate to. She also
notes her love for opera singer Anna Netrebko, whom
Donovan saw in her frst opera, Anna Bolena by Donizetti.
Donovan clearly has a passion for music, but also for the
Festival itself! She says, The New Hampshire Music Festival
really is a family! I think the environment is so unique and
that all the musicians and their families come to Plymouth,
NH from all over the country (and some from out of the
country) to experience and share music with one another!
I think its very special and Im proud to be a part of the
family!
Hats of to Season 62!

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
Jay Buckley, owner of MegaPrint and board member for the Festival
started MegaPrint in his own basement in 1994. On September 1st
of this year the business reaches 20 years of service. Buckley says
that the business produces large format printing, and most of his
customers fnd him over the Internet.
Buckley says he greatly enjoys living here in the Lakes Region of
New Hampshire.
He says, It allows me to live in this wonderful part of the world!
I enjoy hiking and skiing, and I appreciate being a part of the
community.
About the town of Plymouth he says, Its a terrifc small town
with the advantages that the college brings, performing arts and
interesting people.
Jay grew up being exposed to classical music by his parents and
notes that he has simply always enjoyed it. He also states his love
for the Beatles and rock and roll, discussing the bands arrival in
America, and expressing his enjoyment to have grown up with all
the wonderful music of the 60s and 70s.
He has lived and seen performances in a variety of places, including
Cleveland, Boston, San Francisco, and New York, and says It was
wonderful to fnd the Festival here in little old Plymouth when I
moved here!
Noting himself a child of the 60s, Jay claims his most powerful
musical moment in his life to be Jackson Browns Running on
Empty concert in the summer of 1978, where he got to sit front and
center on the lawn at Blossom Music Center outside Cleveland.
Buckleys love for music has traveled with him to the town of
Plymouth where he participates in and helps run the Festival. I cant
imagine summer without it! The musicians become a big part of the
community, and the performances liven up the summer social life. I
think its incredibly impressive that a town the size of Plymouth puts
on a festival like this.
