The document discusses different methods of earthing electrical systems at different voltage levels, including generator neutral, 6.6kV systems, 415V systems, 240V systems, and 110V AC control supply. It also provides specifications for sizing, isolating, and other components of the neutral earthing system.

The different methods of earthing mentioned are high resistance earthing for generator neutral, medium resistance earthing for 6.6kV systems, and solidly earthed systems for 415V, 240V, and 110V systems.

The specific requirements for the earthing resistor for unit auxiliary transformers mentioned are a duty rating of 60 seconds, taps provided at 25%, 50%, and 75%, mounting on insulators, and ability to carry 10% of rated current continuously with an enclosure surface temperature rise of not more than 5 degrees C above ambient temperature.

10.0 METHODS OF EARTHING

The neutral earthing equipment shall conform to the latest editions of
relevant national and international standards. These shall comply with the
specific requirements indicated below.

10.1 Generator neutral will be high resistance earthed. The neutral shall be
connected to a suitably rated neutral earthing transformer. The neutral
earthing resistor will be connected across the secondary of the neutral
earthing transformer.

10.2 6.6 kV systems shall be medium resistance earthed. The neutral of the unit
auxiliary transformers shall be independently connected to the earth through
a suitable resistance.

10.3 415V system shall be a solidly earthed system. The neutral of the service
transformers shall be independently connected to the earth.

10.4 240V systems for lighting and the space heating shall be solidly earthed
system. The neutral of the transformers shall be connected to the earth
bus through a link in the respective board, which is in turn connected to the
Plant earth grid.

10.5 110V AC control supply shall be a solidly earthed system. The earth side
of the transformers shall be connected solidly through a link to the earth bus
in the respective modules of switchgear / control panels.

10.6 Sizing of Neutral Earthing Equipment

10.6.1 The neutral grounding resistor ohmic value for generator neutral earthing
shall be so selected that during an earth fault on one of the phases of the
generator, the kW power consumed in the resistor shall be atleast equal to
1.5 times, the capacitive kVA due to capacitance of generator, generator
bus duct and associated equipment including surge protection capacitor,
generator transformer and unit auxiliary transformer (where applicable).

10.6.2 The neutral earthing resistor ohmic value for unit auxiliary transformer
neutral earthing shall be such that earth fault current is limited to the full
load current of the respective transformers.

10.7 Specific Requirements

10.7.1 Duty rating of the earthing resistor for UATs shall be 60 seconds.

10.7.2 Cable boxes shall be provided for receiving the cables from the
transformers.

10.7.3 The resistors shall be provided with taps at 25%, 50% and 75%.

10.7.4 The resistor cubicle shall be mounted on suitably rated insulators.

10.7.5 The resistor cubicle shall be located in transformer yard at a height of 2.5m.
If located at ground level the resistor area shall be fenced separately, even
though located within the fenced transformer yard. Resistor shall be able to
carry the specified current a period of time as specified with a temperature
rise not exceeding 325 Deg C over an ambient temperature.

10.7.6 The resistor shall be able to carry 10 % of its rated current continuously
with the enclosure surface temperature rise not more than 5 Deg C
of ambient temperature specified.

10.7.7 Resistor shall be natural cooled type and forced cooling shall not be
used.
However, if envisaged, adequate louvers with removable fine wire mesh
(holes less than 0.5 mm) may be provided to limit the enclosure surface
temperature.

10.7.8 Resistor shall be mounted on steel rods insulated by special heat
resistant mica nite paper tubes. Grid washers shall be of natural mica.
Porcelain insulators shall be used to insulate the resistor element from body
of the enclosure.

10.7.9 The two end of resistor shall be brought out to weather proof bushing
type terminals of adequate rating. Bushing terminals shall be provided for
neutral and earth connections and they shall be housed in a metal clad
enclosure.

10.7.10 Resistor shall be designed to be lifted using lugs on top or jacking holes on

side.

Bolted type link shall be provided for isolating the resistor.

10.8 Isolating Arrangement.

10.8.1 An isolator shall be provided on the incoming side to isolate the equipment
from the main equipment. The rating shall be suitable at least 1.5 times the
rated current of the resistor. The isolating switch shall have 4 NO + 4 NC
contacts for remote indication and interlocks.

10.8.2 The external handle for the switch shall be lockable in both ON and
