The document provides details about a business proposal for a sensor device that detects water pollution levels on dairy farms. Key points:
- The sensor would measure pH levels in water areas and send alerts directly to local councils if levels exceed averages, allowing faster response to issues.
- The target industry is water quality testing and reporting, which is attractive due to low competition and barriers to entry.
- The proposed product automatically monitors and reports water conditions via WiFi to councils, and then to the government if no action is taken within 7 days.
- Quality control is a high priority to achieve the vision of reducing water pollution response times on farms in New Zealand.

2 SENSOR TO FIX WATER POLLUTION CAUSED BY DAIRY FARMING INTRODUCTION Recently, a large percent of water areas have been polluted by dairy farming stated by Massey University freshwater ecologist Joy(2012). The main reason is that it costs a lot of time to report the problem in the farm through the coucil to the government, which causes the water condition getting even worse. In order to fix that problem, a sensor can be used to detect the pH level of the polluted water which has been placed in each part of water area in each farm. And if the level goes above the average, a signal will be sent to the council or the government directly through wifi, which will enable the council or the government to act on the problem in few days. 3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision To develop innovative products which can decrease the cycle time of dealing with water pollution in order to fix it in every water area in farms in New Zealand. 3.2 Industry Analysis: Water condition testing and reporting Industry Industry: Water condition testing and reporting Industry. This uses the water condition testing system, after which the information will be sent to the council or the government directly. Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: Low There are few high-tech products in order to test water condition are availble for customers to purchase. A number of dairy farms and companys
3
3 are using innovative solutions instead of costy projects; however, few companys in the industry could develop and provide those technical products to them. So that customers have few choices to purchase (Young, 2013). Supplier power: High Few companys with a good infrastructure can provide components for companies developing the high-tech products. For example, a dominant company, NAND, provide flash chip to others (Handy, 2014). Threat of new entrants: Low New competitors need a huge amount of knowledge and money to get into the market. To develop an innovative products requires the business a good infrastructure, so that it is not easy for them to enter the industry. Threat of substitutes: Low There are limited numbers of substitutes that are available for customers to switch to of the similar price; in other words, the switching cost is very high in this industry. An example is the lifting environmental performance which is really costly for business to apply it (Young, 2013). Rivalry among existing competitors: Low There are not many competitors existing in the industry; also, the threat of new entrants is low . Overall attractiveness of the industry: The water condition testing and reporting industry is an attractive one, due to there are four of the five forces being low. It is easy for business to
4
4 have a competitive advantage because of the competition among existing companys are quite low. So that it is an attractive industry overall. 3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs Our customers are those dairy farms and dairy companys who may cause the deterioration of the water condition. And the pollution not only can affect the quality of the soil, but also can pose health danger to people who come into contact with it (Skye, 2013). So that what they actually need is to find out the position of the water pollution as soon as possible, and then report it to the council who will furtherly fix the problem. 3.4 The Product and Service The product has a bulit in the comunication device that can automatically update the information of the water condition in the farming area. And this information will be sent to the council though wifi which can be provided by the WLAN card inside the sensor. And if the council does not take any action on the problem in 7 days, the government will take charge of the problem directly. Receving the customers feedback and complaint is also important, if there is any breakdown within 3 months after purchasing that, our staff will be directly allocated there to maintain it. In replying customers feedback, we communicate with them through email, after which we will try to settle dowm whether or not we need some improvement.
3.5 Suppliers and Partners Based on the products that we produce, the technical support is necessary for the business from proposal through to warranty; as a result, our suppliers are those companys that can provide different technical components. For example, the key component of the water condition testing sensor is the integrated transducer which can help generate the signal sent to the council and the government. So that our supplier is the organization that can provide integrated transducer. The signal created by the central processing devices also contains the
5
5 details about the position of the polluted water area. Thus, the organization like TOMTOM which is the biggest global positioning system company can also be our supplier. For partners, an R&D company in the areas of paper, packaging and labelling can be one of those who can help our organization generate more incomes by attracting different customers in the market. 3.6 Strategy: Focused High Cost The customers that the company mainly focus on are those dairy farms and companys which is a small part of the whole population. The water condition testing and reporting system can not be sold for daily use, so that the business should adopt the focused narrow market. As a member of the industry, it is not easy for a new competitor to obtain the knowledge to develop the advanced products. So that the business has the first-mover advantage, consequencely; the strategy the business has chosen is the high cost one which means that the organization cares more about the quality control in order to achieve the final goal. The overall strategy is therefore Focused High Cost 3.7 Value Chain Activity: Make the product or service The most important value chain activity for this business is making the product or service Seeing as though our vision is to reduce the water pollution caused by dairy farming by reducing the cycle time of testing and reporting. To avoid mistakes during the transfer, a high-quality knowledge base is required for each level of the production line. Also, each department needs to ensure that each step in manufacturing the sensor has been tested compared with the standards. For the strategy we have chosen, in adopting the high focused cost strategy, the quality control should also be taken first seriously which ia also linked to the manufacturing activity. 3.8 Business Processes

3.10. 1. RAW MATERIALS ORDERI NG MANEGEMENT SYSTEM This system will help automate the process of deciding what components the organization requires, how many it needs, whom is the company going to purchase from and receive the invoice and pay the bill. Due to the most important fuctionality which evaluate different suppliers, this system can catch different data of different suppliers, and convert them into information in order to make decision of whom to select. 3.10. 2. GOODS MANUFACTURING SYSTEM Based on the main fuctionality, this system will automate the production line by combining different components together. It will ensure the quality of integrated transducer that used to transfer signal to the council, report each problem during the production process to the manegement level, after which the product will be sent to the packaging process. 3.10. 3. TEST RESULTS RECEIVING AND MEASURI NG SYSTEM This system can receive information from a variety of activities testing on those components and the final output, intergrat different departments measuring and analysing the performance, and provide the final summary of the condition of the sensor including temperature resistance level, inside stoppage and evaluation of exterior structure to the mangement level to make decisions.

11 CONCLUSION Our sensor works through various business processes supported by different information systems. Because of the use of the information systems, a huge amount of values can be delivered to customers. To be specific, it can improve the productivity by reducing the cycle time. For example, the raw material ordering mangement system reduce the cycle time from ordering the components to paying the bill, and the products manufactorying system can automate the entire production line and reduce extra costs during the complex production process. Moreover, the test results receiving and measuring system can also improve the customer satisfaction as it can bring the highest benefits to customers by providing them the high-quality product.
