Poet profile : Valerie Bloom is a poet from Jamaica .Valerie Bloom was born in Jamaica and came to England in 1979.She studied English with African and Caribbean Studies at the University of Kent at Canterbury.She writes poetry in English and Jamaican patois for all ages, and has performed her work throughout the world, with many television and radio appearances. Her poetry is included in a number of anthologies and she tutors regularly for schools and colleges. Means :This poem talks about the river as it flows through valleys and hills. It is always moving as it winds its way to the plains it twists and turns. Along the way, the river keeps whatever it collects. The river makes sounds that are peculiar or special only to it. The river moves on happily and it sings and dances. However, the river can be a trouble maker for it can bring down trees and causes floods. The river bring a lot of role. Setting :The poem is set in the countryside as the persona talks about the river and its features and movements. The river winds its way through the countryside happily. But, the river can cause erosion and flood. Theme : The main theme of the poem is man and life. Man can choose to lead a stable life and stay put in one place or move around in search of his dreams. As he travels around, man may choose the straight path or the road less traveled. During his travels, man collects mementos and souvenirs. Contentment brings happiness and man moves with a light step of heart. Man may face challenges in life and this can prompt him to destruction. Poetic device : The main image of the poem is river and the way of its movement.the river is personified as a man as he travels through life . The use of capital letter in River emphasizes this.the river also is said to be a wanderer , a winder , a collector , a baby , a dancer and singer, also a destroyed . Simile in is The river is like a baby happily sucking his thumb. Moral values : First , do not destroy other people in the process. Second , greed can lead to destruction . Third ,do not cutting down trees and polluting the river . The last is we must strive for stability in life.
Mr Nobody
Means : The personal talks about a funny little person who does a lot of mischievousness in the house. When things go or are misplaced, the culprit is Mr. Nobody. Besides that, most of the things used by Mr. Nobody are never put back to where they should be. Any mess around the house is always done by no one excepts Mr. Nobody. Setting : The poem is set in a house and the area around the house. The persona talks about the situation in the house and things happening in it. things get broken, misplaced and thrown around by an unseen person. Besides that, he also messes up the house and dirties the place. Themes : Theme in this poem is family life which is full of mischievousness from the children. it is normal for a family to have someone who does mischievousness but will not admit it. In a family, we might take things done by other people for granted. We should appreciate the work done by other people. We should allocate work clearly and be responsible for our own actions. Another theme is respect for every member of the family. Cultivate good habits for everyone's sake and comfort. Poetics devices : The structure , style and languages are, the writing style is simple and directs, the languages is also easy and the vocabularies in is easy to understand.the poem does not have the definite rhyme and its consists of 6 stanzas. How the poet imagine is in the movement MR Nobody is quiet .The simile use is as quiet as mouse Moral values : we must work together to look after the family home. We also need not be careless when our use either our own things or other people people's possessions.
